So what do you say? ******************** I don't know. so a herald _has_ to have mindmagic to get chosen? there are quite a few heralds, so that would mean that there are a lot of people rattling around with gifts. I think that it's kinda along the lines of a lifebond. If both people come back at the same time will they bond with each other again? Oh, and what if someones companion comes back as a herald, and their former herald comes back as a companion, will they chose each other? >> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think that probably heralds don't come back with the same gifts. Yes, they are a part of the mind, but channels are channels--they don't necessarily have to channel the same gift. And how much of a herald's mind comes back? Maybe it's just the potential for mind-magic or gifts. After all, Stefen didn't know that he had been a herald . . . and maybe it would be dangerous for a herald to know that he/she had lived before. they obviously don't bring any memories with them from life to life, and probably very little personality. I have been reading ML for quite a while now and I am glad to finally hear people talk about her books instead being thought as weird for enjoying sci-fi/fantasy. It's very interesting to hear others opinions because I know that at least I get stuck on my own track and don't take time to consider other ways of thinking about the characters and plots. Hmm.....well as for my favorite authors..... I love Gordon R. Dickson....Robin Hobb...Laurell K. Hamilton, MZB, Michelle Sagara, Kate Elliot, Patricia Kennealy-Morrison, and David Fentuch...... About Owlflight.....it was a good story....it's just very different from the rest of her books. The main character isn't very strong......and seems a bit too young.....he doesn't seem to progress as much as say Vanyel.....it was enjoyable after I was over shock of discover the different style....although I still hold to the opinion that it was written for a younger audience....or at least I hope that is the case.........Talk to y'all later.... Been lurking for a while so I thought I'd pop in for a bit while we're on the subject of great books. There are tons of great books out there, so I'll just name a few (and a couple of authors). Like so many others have said, McCaffrey, Piers Anthony, Asprin, and Jordan are all great reading. Empty crown was excellent, and the chicks in Chainmail ones are great as well (BTW...available from the sci-fi book club for about $7-$8, as well as tons of other great ones!). If you liked Chicks In Chainmail, check out the Maureen Birnbaum books, and Mathemagics by Margaret Ball. Hmm...what else? If you can manage to find it, the novel of The Neverending story is well worth the hunt (finally found a copy after many long years of searching). Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (currently reading) is turning out to be really interesting if you're looking for something a bit darker, and I've found you can never go wrong with Ann Rice. I could go on forever, but I'll just stop here. E-mail for more suggestions, as I've got quite an extensive library of sci-fi, fantasy, etc. Happy hunting! Tannim Kole, Knight of Fluff. Soon to be in Queen's Own. BTW...I'm sure that y'all recognize the nick, but it was given to me by a few friends (along with a copy of born to run) when I was in High School, due to a couple of reasons (Born in the year of the dragon, been fascinated by them ever since I was little, drew pictures of them constantly, and because they just felt it fit me better so the name has stuck). Added the "last name" because I use my nickname for gaming purposes also. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Nov 1997 10:08:05 -0800 (PST) From: "K.S." I like Piers Anthony's Xanth books for light reading, you know when you don't reaaly feel like concentrating or you keep having to put the book down. I really liked Kate Elliot's Jaran, its another series that I can't wait to finish. A more science fiction type of series would be the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. Speaking of Tiger, Tiger--has anyone read a couple of books--they might have had different authors; I can't remember, but their covers were similar.
