While I agree that Keanu would not be quite right for the movie , I haven't quite figured out who would make a good Van. Many of the male stars out there today are just to ruggedly good looking rather than beautiful, as Van is so often described. I think were it to be cast, it's probably going to be an unknown that will walk away with the coveted prize. in A Shayna Maydel. He even has the beautiful tenor voice. If only he were taller and lankier.... then again, there's is another male actor college friend of mine who also has the "beauty", and the height and lankiness... I've just never heard him sing, so I don't know what end of vocal scale he would fall in> I just can't think of any tall, lanky, beautiful tenor men in the acting world today. Who cares? it seldom plays a major factor in the story! Actually, Misty has a lot of interspecies relationships in her books, for example Niara (sp?) and Skiff, Elspeth and Darkwind, the griffin and human woman in the Griffon series, Nightingale and the Bird man, anyone and elves (SERRAted, Bardz, Bard's Tale, Other bard stuff), Anyone and their Companion, anyone and their bond bird or Kyrie familiar, The beast and the wench in whatzit...Firestone or something, human and fairy in Bard's Tale, Tannim and Kitsune, Lady Iko and Charliss the dragon. See, lots of interspecies relationships. And I think they are all very germane to the story and to the developments of the plots, they pull us into the stories and make us empathize. What difference if the character is gay, black, griffon or faery? Caring about them and their situation is the important part of the story and the author's hardest part. Okay, I have to admit, that the relationships that I tend to feel the most for ARE the cross species relationships. There you can really see the emotion and angst. ********************************** John E. Hey! that's great! Why don't you talk to them about looking into doing one of Misty's books? I think the SERRAted Edge books would translate well onto film and they are really timely and conscience raising. If you want to nitpick you are not truly correct ('anime' is simply short for 'a-ni-me-shi-o-n(I think)', a corruption of the eigo term animation). Besides, I think there has been a couple of anime produced in Japan based off of western source material. > Now, have you seen Heavy Metal? That > is an American cartoon, is not anime, and sure as **** ain't Disney! But it's nowhere near Misty either ^_^ The point being made by those who want Misty's work animated is that very few US companies are willing to produce quality animation that is not comparatively simplistic and/or 'family' entertainment; while shows that deal with sexuality, violence, and complex issues/plotlines are commonly animated in Japan (see Gainax's 'Evangelion' if you do not beleive me). To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: groveborn, monarch's own Message-ID: It seems to me rather silly that the Monarch's own companion is groveborn, namely because the job is so important and requires so much compassion/understanding etc., that I would think that a companion with previous life experience would be an asset. I mean, just look at Roland.(is that his name?? suddenly it doesn't look right!) Talia arrives with absolutly no people skills. Because her companion has had experience with/through his other chosens he is able to help her. Wouldn't it be a mess if the old companion dies with his/her herald, a new groveborn arrives, along with a Talia type person? Or do you think the companion would choose someone with the experiences it is lacking? Any thoughts? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 1997 08:40:12 -0800 (PST) From: "K.S." Granted, that's not a very cheerful option, and in her case I would probably do what she did. I think she did indeed try to kill herself. She sent the arrow meaning there was no hope for her. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 1997 12:17:01 -0500 (Eastern Standard Time) From: Heather Shannon To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Letter Message-ID: On Thu, 4 Dec 1997 12:49:18 GMT "M. I hate to say it, but I have to leave for now. I'm going home for Christmas break (i.e. the whole month of December) and I don't have access to the University's e-mail. And I don't think it would be too good to come back from break to 1000+ messages (it will happen-I got 100+ last week). IT's been fun though, and I will probably be back later. I'm getting my own computer so I can access my email from it and not have ot trot down to the next dorm to use one of theirs. So Happy Holidays, in what ever form you celebrate, and be safe. I'll probably be back in January. Lots of Luck, Rehtaeh ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 1997 09:51:20 -0800 (PST) From: "K.S."
