Maybe she was so close to Rethwellen that the spell didn't affect her as much( I know that's grasping at straws, but what can i say.) As for the waystations. That was a fairly well aquipt waystation it could be possible that it had an indoor bathroom. Kris and Talia were stranded indoors for a month in the blizzard, for like 2 or 3 days they couldn't go outisde at all...Any thoughts? :) Jennie >> Jennie, good questions! I think in Kethry's instance the vrondi didn't bother her because there was a Herald near by (can't remember his name too lazy to go get the book) as for the latrine situation I know castles in Europe had Glory Holes (I think that was the name) which were enclosed rooms with a hole that hover the moat not a comfortable way to . . as for Talia and Kris I think we'll just have to assume that they took care of that when they let the Companions and (whatever those pack animals were called) out for the same reason. jai ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Dec 1997 18:41:24 -0800 From: "CEYLJOHN" To: Subject: Re: Xmas gifts for 16 year olds Message-ID: <199712140239.SAA11465-+AT+-everest.netidea.com> Dia dhuit, Tannim, is really cool, he excites my interest, too bad more of the books weren't about him. While I read the Last Herald Mage Trilogy about 7 years ago, I only got back into reading her again, less than a year ago. The ones starting with Tannim, have already taken my heart and soul flying through the endless nights and days. Now I have maybe half a dozen books more of her books I haven't read, I believe she does put her heart and soul in her works. My only other wish, is that she would carry some more of those great characters into more books. When I read some of them it's like I'm them, only a few authors have done that for me. I loved it, but I didn't understand half of what was going on, like references to Leslac the bard, the promise Stefansen made to Roald, Thalkarsh, and what Ancar did to Talia. It also gives away that Kris dies, that Ancar uses magic, that the Brat is tamed, and that Talia and Dirk finally get around assorted layers of stubborness and idiocy. Basically, not only was I addicted, I was confused. I also read the Winds trilogy before The Last Herald-Mage... had it all backwards, didn't I? I wonder about people who start with, like, the Winds books. I read them before reading BTS or V&H, and was rather baffled when Kero gave Need to Elspeth. And then I already knew what was going to happen when I got around to reading the ones I skipped. Be careful. Kethry & vrondi: Remember, Valemar's borders changed over the years and vrondi stopped where the borders were in Van's time. If they were just inside the border, maybe the vrondi didn't go out that far. Velgarth: Where did that word come from? It's never mentioned in the books. We know the world is round, so would that make it a planet? Names: Ms. Lackey is not very creative with names, is she? Many of her characters have names that are the same, or very similar to ones in other series. Just an observation. Zhai'helleva and Happy Holidays! Someone mentioned that Valdemar's borders had stayed the same since Van's tiume, but that's really not true. I remember reading somewhere that the Vrondi defined Valdemar's borders by where a Herald had cast a truth spell recently. Therefore in Sorrows and some of the border areas, the border would retract into Valdemar or expand beyond the borders. Flame me if I'm wrong... I'm working off memory here. I would suggest that for when Kethry was inside Valdemar with .. Roald? Well, he hadnt cast a truth spell, so the Vrondi hadnt really accnolaged that that bit of Valdemar was PART of Valdemar.
