The fact that you are not trying to make a profit does not in anyway reduce the criminality of the act in the eyes of the law (although it might conceivably reduce your sentence, if it came to trial). You can contact the Queen's Own fanclub and see what would be involved in asking Misty for permission, but given her past stance on fan-fic, I am not going to hold out any hope that she will give it. This is a constantly evolving document, available on the web, which answers many of the most frequently asked questions about the list (who are all the Gods and Goddesses, what's with the sheep, what are the rules of posting, how to avoid annoying too many people, etc.) The newbiefest also has links to other documents such as Auntie Mel's Rules of Thumb, the Misty List Archives, and the Abbreviations List (which explains what AFAIK, IIRC, and ROTFLMAO mean). In general, we are a pretty nice bunch of people and generally tend not to get too excited about the minor mistakes that everyone makes while trying to get the hang of things. If someone does something egregiously bad, they might get a private note from a Councilor asking them to not repeat the act and explaining why it is against the list netiquette. But you shouldn't have to worry about being flamed on list (which is a no-no, anyway *grin*). Speaking of Councilors, if you have questions about the list, just look for someone with the title "councilor of Mist" in their signature. These people are list regulars who have volunteered their time and effort to help newbies and to take some of the pressure off of Mel (the list-owner) by reminding people of the list guidelines when it looks like things are getting out of hand. You can be pretty sure that if you ask a Councilor for help, you will get it. Anyway, welcome again and let's all make this a great year for our little virtual community! Yes, I agree that sex played a large part in what they did since the negative connotation of kestra'chern seemed to be wide-spread in Amberdrake's time. I think for that reason (that it had a negative connotation) Amberdrake avoided using sex in a session unless it was absolutely necessary. It could be that he was an isolated case and that other kestra'chern didn't have a problem with using sex often in their sessions. This is a fun list. I hope you enjoy being a part of it as much as I do. ...and now for something completely different. I've been re-reading the Winds trilogy. The introduction to WOF is signed by Herald-Chronicler Mystie. Is the name of Mystie's Companion mentioned anywhere? Please don't say Larry Dixon. Just thought I'd pop in to welcome all the new new ones that appeared on the list today. Thought I've been on the list for a couple of months I still feel very new. So I guess I'm an old new one (silly guffaw). So since I'm de-lurking the rest of you must know I'm going to stick my beak in about the kestra' chern thing. Here goes. Don't y'all feel we are trying to over-simplify and label the whole business? It is a business as well as well as a calling, but we cannot forget that it is a calling. Yes sex is involved, sometimes. I think that must just be one of the many aspects. I think it must be something that we have no concept of in our time as a profession. It would be nice though. I also know someone who could use a kestra' chern. Me. Peace to all, Smokeshadow ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 1998 00:28:44 EST From: "J. First: Wow---everything past Black Gryphon...You're all right---that is really harsh...I guess I should introduce myself...I have taken the usename Heartspring, which, after a few of my posts, should become evident as to why it is so...I am a college student in North Carolina and have worshipped Mercedes Lackey since eight grade when I picked up an old beaten copy of Magic's Pawn at the city library for a quarter. It is still with me today and holds much sentimental value. I would like to say, to Beth, that the post you wrote was hardly a novel...You should see one of mine...I'm sure that anyone can attest to the fact that I have a propensity for verbosity...A kind of well, or spring, you might say, of words... To rewrite any of her books---yow---especially to say all of them after the Black Gryphon...I have to clear one thing up first--are you talking realtime after Black Gryphon [meaning the Storms trilogy and the new one, Owlflight WHICH I STILL HAVE NOT READ FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW, SO NO NO ON THE SPOILERS!!!! (and you all know that I mean that in the nicest way possible *bats eyelashes and smiles sweetly*)] or Velgarth/Valdemar chronologically (from Vanyel on...)? In any case, I wouldn't do so...I would like to edit the ending of Storm Breaking although I feel, in my heart of hearts, it's the proper ending *phooey*...Mercedes Lackey wrote them and, for me, that is enough...I'm almost tempted to go out and buy any book with her name on it because I trust her and her style that much but have maintained my composure in such stores as Waldenbooks and Borders and not picked up any of them besides her duology (Elvenblood, Elvenbane) with Norton and If I Pay Thee Not In Gold with Anthony...All three of which were really good---to me, anyway... Well, I believe that the fount has dried, or at least stopped spewing for the time being...
