Although the title is confusingly identical to the title of the science fiction book club two-in-one, this is apparently a separate and distinct book. According to the December 1997 issue of _Locus_, it is due out in March of 1998 from Baen. In April, 1998, Baen has a collection coming out called _Fiddler Fair_, which sounds suspiciously Free Bard-ish. Does anyone know anything about this book? Also in April, 1998, DAW is *re-issuing* _Oathblood_, a collection by Mercedes Lackey. Since they're also re-issuing both titles of the original Duology, this must be a third book. The question is, if they're re-issuing in April, when is the original print run? _Locus_ had no reference to this between October 1997 and April 1998. The June and December issues of _Locus_ list announced and upcoming books. _Tempus Fugit_ was mentioned on the list as coming out in the Spring, although there is no reference to this in _Locus_. And, trust me, I looked, something we [four-eyed] rabid fans do rather well. Where did you hear about this book coming out? Inquiring sheep want to know, so that, like the Fox in St. Exupery's _The Little Prince_ [also highly recommended], we will know when to prepare our hearts to be happy. Whoever knows about this, have mercy on your poor, ignorant listsibs, and let us know when to begin the advance, anticipatory drooling.--JMA ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 18:39:18 +0000 (GMT) From: Elizabeth Hoffman To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Di Tregard books Message-ID: The Di Tregard (hope I remebered the name right) detective novel/ fantasy books are available from the Internet bookshop (at http://www.bookshop.co.uk). Thanks to whoever gave me the URL, I've lost their name. Its very good if your in the UK and it does give the approximate price in Dollars and several European currencies and will send anywhere in the world, postage rates for nonUK look a little steep, though I think EU is OKish. They can get the books though, I just got Jinx High and the other 2 are listed. It sounds like a new book to me!!(oh pleasepleaseplease) By the way, those of you who can't find some of Mercedes' books should try here. They have all of the Valdemar books currently in stock, as well as most, if not all, of her others, and they list forthcoming books. Just search by author or title. They are at a good price and I recieved my orders within a week in Germany from the US (which is a REAL accomplishment), so within the US it should be really fast. Bedlam's Bard, cowritten with Ellen Guon, and Fiddler's Fair are listed as well. All of these books are listed as not available yet, but you can pre-order copies. I found nothing on a book called Tempus Fugit, written by anyone, though. Happy Huntin' Krista > Also in April, 1998, DAW is *re-issuing* _Oathblood_, a collection by > Mercedes Lackey. I have tried several of Mercedes' other titles (Sacred Ground, Children of the Night, Burning Water, Jinx High, Chrome Circle & Reap the Whirlwind). While I liked the Diana Tregarde books, the others did not spark my continued interest. HOWEVER, if these books are not representative of the other books she has written, tell me which ones I should try and I may give it another chance. Here are a few authors you might want to try: Marion Zimmer Bradley - the Darkover books are excellent, also the Darkover anthologies and Sword and Sorceress (no offense to anyone, but her SF leaves much to be desired) Elizabeth Moon - the Paksennarion books and the Sassinak (SF) books are VERY good Jennifer Roberson - the Cheysuli books Also give Anne Rice a try if you are interested in historical fiction with vampires and witches and Elizabeth Hand's Waking the Moon (a modern day fantasy fiction), I couldn't put it down! (I've read _Strands of Starlight_ about 9 times now:) and her book _Gossamer Axe_ is excellent too:) another writer I love is Patricia C. Wrede (though I think she needs to develop the relationships between her male and female characters a little better) and I also (like many others on this list love Jennifer Roberson (though I can only read one book of hers every so often because they're a lot darker than most) Well that's my bit:) Caelestis ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1451 **********************************
