In fact in the SERRA books, it has the message in the back, complete with phone hotlines! But even in other books, I don't think I have read one yet (and I am a few books short of all Misty books) that doesn't have at least some message. And it seems to be getting more obvious. Is this a bad thing? No, not yet anyway. It helps us to compare and contrast with our own world and think of possible solutions that we may never have considered before. That's one of the reasons I read. I can try out life "in someone else's shoes" and maybe gain a little more insight or understanding. I also have to say, that so far, she hasn't taken the preaching to annoying heights, there is still good stories there. Four and Twenty Blackbirds is starting to push the envelope, but is still good reading. A writer's agenda shouldn't hit us "like a 2x4 between the eyes", but sneak up and sink in little by little, so that we question it and not just ignore it, or discard it as being rabid like some of the eco-terrorist groups or save the children groups cause me to do. At one point, Marion wanted Misty to take over the series, but Misty's own workload prevented that. I do believe that Adrienne Martine-Barnes (who co-wrote Exile's Song with Marion) is probably going to be the one to write more books in the Darkover universe. I've read Anthony's Immortality series, and while I agree that the first books were very good, I felt that later books were just a rehash of the stories from another character's point of view. Normally I don't mind this (I think Anne McCaffrey did an interesting job of this in Nerilka's Story) but after a while it got a bit much. elaine/nightowl ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 18:38:07 -0700 From: Susan Read To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Sword Of Ice Message-ID: <34BC16FF.2FF99292-+AT+-connect.ab.ca> Thanks to all for the info on the book.
