The Bible also says that one shouldn't get caught up in fantasy (or something to that effect) and I always do. It is my escape for my real life and has been for many years. Message-ID: <34C66855.A074A7B0-+AT+-t-online.de> Hello Everyone I was wondering if there was a fan fiction site devoted to Mercedes' work and characters from those works? I ran across a few Star Trek sites that published online short stories, poems, and novellas written by fans and I enjoyed some of them. If there are none, what does everyone think about the idea? This would be a great way for people to write about their favorite characters or to create a new character and place that character into whatever period of Valdemaran history they want. Or to explore periods of time or places that haven't been written about yet. Think of the great opportunity this would bring budding authors! The Troll Herald-Mage has returned at last after nearly a year of absence(now that I finally have an ISP whose mail quota isn't so low as to preclude any mailing lists). As for the question on fan fiction...I'm not up-to-date on the current situation, but I remember that a year or two ago someone on the list mentioned something about people needing direct written permission from Misty before posting fan fiction on the 'net and that no-one was permitted to write fan fiction for non-'net publication. Can some kind soul tell this behind-the-times troll and the original questioner if this policy still holds true? When i mentioned the 'pet peeve' thingie with the covers, I didn't reasile how many agreed with me!! Although I have a few DISAGREMENTS. (did I spell that right??) I am an artist too, annd I have to say that drawing a white horse is VERY hard. Using colors like... oh, say BLUE and PURPLE and YELLOW helps define the horse ad keeps your eyes attached to it. It creates more of a difference and makes the picture look less flat. But it looks ridiculous without moderation. Very ridiculous. So while I don't mind the exotic colors, I DO mind it when the Companion is more blue and purple and yellow than white and grey. I seem to be having a problem with my 'N' key today, so if there is a few 'N's missing, it's my keyboard's fault. Sorry!! :) As for the buisiess, I happe to LIKE the borders, but I agree that the main cover art is too buisy. It's partially the way that it's drawen-the lines are very active. (Buisy looking) So while the picture is good and fine, the lines are saying 'NO way! this is an exciting picture!!' If you have no idea what I am blabbering on about, go see a copy of van Gough's 'Starry Night'. THAT is a picture that is very buisy looking and alive looking, yet it is of a mountain or tree, a night sky and a village with lights. Ok, I'll stop being the Art Teacher. ;) I prefer just drawing. Blurbs on the back-I went through a bunch on the phone with my friend Icewind the 'I Have Over 800 Misty List E-Mails To Go Through, So Stop Telling Me Misty List Things!' and we laughed SO hard!! They all are totally incorect. So now if I'm looking for a book, I'll read the blurb (not seriously) the blurb in the inside cover, and then take a look at the cover art. (I can't help it! If there is a half naked chick and some sort of muscle bound 'Hero' waving a sword, I usually won't bother to read it! *blush*) As for all the tag lines: Im really enjoying reading them all! Id really like it if Skywolf (Is that you? I have a brain like a seive, so if I got it wrong, feel free to flame me royally.) would give out the web page that you're collecting them on so that I can spend a while reading them. I hope that no one minds if I stuck a few of my faves at the bottom: This IS getting long. And most of it is me griping! Yikes. Which seems totally natural to me. I think I would have done the same in his place. But then he got over it. Kris asked if there was a fan-fiction site for Misty, then Muranog Shadowbane said that a year or 2 ago you had to get direct permission from Misty. As far as I know that still holds true. You can get a permission form from Queens Own, which is the official fan club. The address is in the back of the books (and its in the USA so I _still_ haven't worked out how to get them a reply-paid envelope!). I'm not sure if it lets you "publish" your work on the net, or if it only allows publication in whatever the Queens Own publication is. Publishing without permission apparently leads to nasty horrible lawyers descending upon you! Changing subject a bit, any speculations on what kind of law they have in Valdemar? I mean, the Empire gives the impression of a very Roman-style law, with everything written down and codified. But that does not strike me as the way Valdemar would work! Maybe more like the UK, with about half or less written down :> (Sorry, I got landed with environmental law this term) Oh well, better go to work.
