Aha! That is why some of us (our detractors might suggest "the ones with no lives") keep copies of the entire Misty oeuvre on a convenient bookshelf. That way, they are always handy for that bit of textevd that amazes and delights the list. =) > Hmm. Never really considered it; I thought of their time as cumulative, > since they're essentially the same person. As far as Lendel vs. Stef, > alive and under their own names, they seem close to the same. I don't know about how long Van and Stef were together vs. 'Lendel and Van, but Kory once figured that Stef was left alive and single for three times the amount of time that Van spent single after 'Lendel's death. This was pointed out as an example of the "Threefold rule" that is common in Wicca and other neo-pagan traditions (the evil and good that you do returns to you in threefold amount). Just thinking about (and, despite what I said above, I don't have my books here in the lab), I think that Van and 'Lendel had less than a year together, and I think that Van and Stef had more than a year. But I'm not sure what the actual amounts of time were. Re: my comment about the Savil/Sayvil thing: > A shot in the dark here, but my guess is there was a discussion over > this "possibility" but that it's really a moot point, since Misty wasn't > exactly subtle about this comparison. Perhaps our estimable counselor > was hoping to avoid a rehash of the whole thing?? Exactly! =) The Mage huggles the lovely new addition to our madcap band of Misty fans. Not only is she charming, but she is perceptive and possessed of a subtle mind. I'm sure we shall get on famously. =) Oh, and someone mentioned wondering about the difference between "gryphons" and "griffons." AFAIK, these are just spelling variants and alternate with "gryfon" and a few others in various texts. The only major variant beasts for gryphons are hippogriffs and gyrfalcons. The former is part horse and, depending on the source, it may be half eagle and half horse, or it may also have a few lion parts added (the classic hippogriff has a lion's tail, IIRC). The gyrfalcon is a classical griffon with a falcon, rather than an eagle for the avian half. These, btw, are the classic forms of heraldry and were also the forms most commonly shown in bestiaries, etc. There may have been more fanciful version (there probably were), but I can't think of any off hand and my copy of Fox-Davies is at home. Oh, and as far as the bondbirds go, Nightdancer is the person who used to hand them out, but she seems to have disappeared from the list. And even if she is just lurking there is nothing to keep you from having a "foundling" bird. After all, I understand that many bondbirds are found in the woods and simply trained up. =) Of course, if Nightdancer is around and contacts you, you could always register your bondbird with an eye to establishing the bloodline. Yes, Van knew.  He only realized, and recognized the signs right before he died, Sob :(  Sniff, Sniff!

Right before the final battal started and after Van sent Stef to warn the guard post.

Textevd
"Stef.  Twenty years.'Lendel had died at seventeen.  Van had met Stef when the Bard was seventeen.  There was time enough, between 'Lendel's death and now--Stef was exactly the right age to have been born about that time.

More things sprang to mind.  The Dreamtime encounter with 'Lendel--the things he had said--the way Tayledras treated Stef and the way Savil had taken the Bard under her wing after that--it was all beginning to make a pattern.

The way he called me ashke without ever knowing the word.  No.  Yes.  What other answer is there?  He came back to me, 'Lendel camd back as Stef, somehow--and Savil and the Hawkbrothers knew--

But there was no opportunity to think about this revelation, for the first of Master Dark's forces had just begun to round the bind in the trail, and is was time to put his plans into motion." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Feb 1998 00:02:52 -0500 (EST) From: "Rogue Phoenix k'Valdemar" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Jisa and Trevan Message-ID: *lurking shields decloaking* In reference to the question about Jisa and Trevan, yes, they were co-consorts. As for Talia, as Skan has said, she had no mindspeech either. So basically, my impression is the same as Skan's that Heralds had to have some trace of a gift, but not necessarily mindspeech. As for the rest of the world (i.e. "ordinary people"), I don't remember any mentions at all of their having traces of any gift whatsoever.
