I must admit that when I first arrived I was jockeying for that position myself (tho I didn't know it existed) -- and yes it would have been as much of a thrill as the Ring. but I got to give up the ring after a week. I'll tell you, when I started a few weeks ago, I was looking up every reference anybody made. I was a textevd fiend. But I've gotten lazy in a mere three weeks, and am now very willing to have a Disciple of Textevd to fall back on. And I promise I'll keep my proofreader aspect away from your postings. ;-} As for anybody out there feeling ignored -- I'll throw my 2 dinars into this: In order to avoid flaming by a certain mage who is reputed to be able to teleport and bring fire with him for the outrageous sin of or two-liners (and out of respect for Vanyel, the process server, who doesn't like such things) or the equally hideous fault of flooding the list with lots of messages (which I get awfully close to doing anyway...), I try to save up messages and then when I have time, go back and creat one nice long braid with all my responses. Cause everybody just loves long messages. *ducks and covers her head* But seriously, folks. And Kenny also mentioned the "me too" thing -- if you write something so tight and well-done, it's a bit silly for us to respond by saying "me too." (Once again, refer back to Vanyel and those one-liners. Also check out the Knights of Fluff -- one look at the Lightbulb joke, and you'll be very wary of things like "me too"ing) Personally, I try to send a personal email saying "me too" and "kudos" to a really awesome argument. And Dre, I've been trying to think of what else to request to put a spin on things -- so go for it. Ana glanced at the song list. *hmm requests, requests, Andrew Lloyd Webber, wonder if Rainbow will mind if I hold that for a bit? Well, I'm gonna have to anyway. And Garth for Stasia will have to wait, as will any recent Sarah McL., Indigo girls, and Loreena McK. requies.* "ILI! we're gonna do the 80's/retro requests now. thank you can handle that?" "Can do! Is fun/happy to be listening!" She grabbed the Mic as Niki and Stasia (yell if I'm wrong, I'm feeling to lazy to go back and check.) came of the dais from singing karoake to the Indigo Girls, "Ok folks! We've got a few more requests to get out of the way-but they're gonna have to wait. I promise to play them, but first, I'd like to do an 80's/retro hour/request list. Please more requests folks, fo the retro/80's shindig, bit." People cheered and began dancing. Ilia was looking rather mellow, Ana glanced at the pitcher of Blood wine-it was empty-she realised that Ilia had been matching her drink for drink *hmm, wonder if she realises this is highly alcoholic?* "Ilia, you ok?" "hmm? Oh yes, I am thank you. What is this stuff?" "Blood wine, highly alcoholic." Ilia's eyes widened, "Oh! No wonder I feel so odd." "Yeah, sorry I thought you knew. " *Not that it takes much Blood wine to make anyone smashed.* "Ilia, why don't you go eat something-that may help." "Alright, milady, thank you." As she watched Ilia wander and weave around the dancers, Ana worried. Glancing about she spotted ILI flollopping to "I Will Survive"-as sung by Rainbow. "ILI!" "Yes?" "Follow Ilia, make sure she stays ok." "Yes, can do!" "Thanx." ------------------==================-------- For those wondering I will be writing Ilia's story. She had changed to her normal human form after the ceremony, and was now a 14 year-old girl, with amber eyes and reddish-gold hair that reached half-way down her shoulders then fell over them to the front creating a mane-like effect. She was probably the least dressed up of all the list-sibs, wearing only a grey trainee uniform and the grey feather in her hair. As she moved around the Hall she heard many people wondering aloud just what a Flion was. *Havens! I came in as a Flion and still no one knows what they are. I think I'll get this over with once and for all, and tell everyone what they are.* Sorana made her way to a table, then got up on the top and cleared her throat. No one took any notice of her. *I guess I'm going to have to be louder than that. I hope I can do this. I have never particularly liked being the center of attention, and now I'm going to call _everyone's_ attention to myself.* She gathered her courage and (nearly shouting to make sure she was heard by all the Hall) said, "Excuse me everyone, but may I have your attention for a moment?" Every eye turned to her. *Well, it worked.* "I know that many of you have no idea what a Flion is. As the Goddess of Flions I feel I should fix this situation, and tell all of you right now what they are. A Flion is a Lion with wings so it can fly. Lion-Flyinglion-Flion. Everyone understand?" There were nods of heads and words assent all around. "Good. Thank you for your attention. I'm sorry I had to interupt." Sorana got down off her table feeling very relieved that it was over and she probably wouldn't have to do anything like this again. She wanted to retreat back to the shadows where she was most comfortable, but there were a few things she had to do first. *First the Newbies, then the music.* Looking around she spotted a very wet Reighyn. *Looks like Yvonne got to him first. I think I'll gave him a sheep towel when I'm done. He could definately use it.* Quietly she slipped through the crowd to an area of shadow near where he was standing. Once there she switched to her Flion form and creeped to the very edge of the shadow. Sorana waited there ready to pounce until she had a clear view of him and no one was in the way. Then, POUNCE! Reighyn was knocked over by a medium sized Flion. The Flion carefully stepped off him, and resumed human from before his eyes. The girl that was standing there in the Flions place smiled as she helped him back up and said, "Welcome to List Reighyn. Have a sheep towel." Handing him the towel made of sheep Sorana resumed Flion form and lifted into the air. *And there's the other one. she doesn't seem to be near any shadows, so I can't sneak up on her that way. I think this one will have to be done from the air.* Very carefully, Sorana flew as close to the other newbie as she could without being noticed. Then when the newbie hit a spot that didn't have quite so many people in it she POUNCED! from the air. Again she helped the poor disoriented newbie up off the floor. "Welcome to the List! Sorry I pounced so hard. Here's a chocolate sheep to make up." Sorana smiled at the newbie as she handed the sheep to her, then sliped away into the crowd. Moving like a shadow through her fellow list-sibs, she made it to the person who was in charge of the music quickly. stepping to the edge of the music platform, she caught the attention of the DJ and said, "Would you please play 'Return to Innocence' by Enigma? And the songs 'Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry', 'Lucky Love', and 'Ravine' by Ace of Base? And 'Caribbean Blue', 'Epona', 'Storms in Africa II', and 'China Roses' by Enya? And 'The Mummers Dance', and 'The Highwayman' by Loreena Mckennit? And 'Kiss From a Rose' by Seal? And anything from the album 'Rythem of the Pridelands' if you have it. Thank you." *Now that I've made my requests I can go find a quiet corner in the shadows to enjoy the rest of the party in. I wonder if Yvonne ever got the God of Typos to take the Curse off her keyboard...* Zhai'helleva, Herald-trainee Sorana Shadowcat, High Priestess of the Goddess of Unicorns, Goddess of Flions, Knight of Amber and Marigold, Grand Knight of the Order of Namers ********************************************************************** "What is the dark; shadows around you, why not take heart in the new day. I wonder how Tylendel would have reacted to Gala's suicide if the link between them had not been severed beforehand. Also, I wonder what Gala was thinking in those few moments when she faced the wyrsa before repudiating Tylendel. Was she just concentrating on getting the beasts attention? or could she have been trying to assess her chosen? Trying to assess the best solution to the situation? All right, enough of my sleep-deprived babbling. I'd like to add on a more fluffy note that I love the story. I feel like I'm getting to see a more in depth view of my listsibs, it's great! I also think it's interesting that some contributors write a "sorry so long" tagline at the end of their chapter and others add a "sorry so short". I've also noticed that a lot of you are forgetting to sign your posts and indicate what material is quoted and what is not. Also, some of you are forgetting to say who you're quoting. Some mail programs have a feature >that does this automatically for you, and it makes life a *lot* easier. You don't *have* to use greater than or less than signs to indicate quoted material, but it does make things easier. %, $, :, *, &, and # all work too, so don't feel we're constraining your creativity here *g*. Now, every time you make a quote, you should put a little bit at the top saying "so and so said:" and then your quote. This helps the rest of us idiots remember who said what *g* and it helps prevent people from being misquoted. Lastly, everyone should put *something* at the bottom of their posts saying who they are. It should be the name that you want people to quote you as. It doesn't have to be your real name... it can be a usename that you only use on the net, or a usename that you only use on this list or just about anything so long as that's what you want to be called. Changing that name can confuse the hell out of people after a while, so it's best not to do it... I started out here as Emily the invisible, and I'll probably be Emily the invisible here eternally *g*. Good thing I like the name, huh? If you think your real name is too mundane, talk to one of us Councilors or to a friend. We might be able to help you get ideas. Oh, I almost forgot! Can everyone please try and A) braid the Friendship Ring stuff into another post or B) label it clearly as Friendship Ring stuff in the subject and try not to post it until you've got enough material for a Misty related post? I think the gift inheritence is probably more complex becuase people like Talia have a light touch of straight mind speach. I'm guessing at the basic characteristic being required for normal brain function, too much and you overload. Like being autistic is maybe the equivalent of having no mindspeach but having too much I'll just overload you and you'd burnout go insane. I hadn't considered the importance of epistasis, it was what I MENT the other week about one gene being required for the expression of another. If theres several more epistatic genes in different pathways some of which can partially compensate for the others (different but compatible spice/herb groups) then you'd help explain gift strengh, and most people wouldn't get enough of these activated to give potential for a even vaguely noticeable level. But the whole scenario with increased chance of getting gifted kids from gifted parents like SORRY I CAN'T FIND YOUR NAME suggested and how you get which one would hold. But the different potential genes would determine which of the active gifts would be strongest. Tylendel, I think Gala decide that he was hopelessly insane and that had he stopped and thought in Mpawn it says the Heralds would have taken mind speach evidence and acted, so he didn't HAVE to take things into his own hands. I agree and concur with the list sibs whom are stating that this is behind friendly lines in a battle where they really thought this body was dead, and Sayvil obviously in time span started to bond to Kero a split second before anyone realized that he was still alive...also, I dont know of any Hearld, who when Chosen/describing being Chosen doesnt refer to that instant(eye-contact)as the crucial moment-also I believe the same principle works for lifebonds(Selaney &Daren also Talia & Dirk, she was sort of stunned the first time she saw him, and did not start having funny feelings until after she looked into his eyes...I will probably come back with lots of textevd for this and Choosing, even stealing some lines from Sword of Ice, next week Also I am going to argue for Kerowyn and Eldan for being lifebonded on the simple basis of the dreams they shared, i mean it would have to be a lifebond to share dreams across the combined countries of Valdemar and Rethwellan.) Darn , i have to stop putting in those footnotes, they are getting too long. May your eyes see with light in the everdark, and Wind to thy Wings, listsibs. If a book just came out in paperback it's covered for about 6 months, and then it's fair game. Books that are in hardcover only stay in spoilers until about 6 months after they go into paperback, so that gives people about 1 year and 6 months to get the books. There's nothing that says you can't talk about books that are in spoilers, you just are asked to put SPOILER in the subject of the post and put all the spoiler covered material at the end of your post with about 20 blank lines down from the rest of it. You can also include a few blank lines after the spoiler material so the poor souls stuck on digest know when to stop scrolling. Posting unmarked spoilers is *very* rude, but marked ones are just fine. I'm only saying the >words.... IMHO, well, if you're allowed to read poetry by any poet, who's to say Mercedes Lackey is less valid than Yeats? Depending on the theme of the course, though, maybe she's less appropriate. Ask the teacher if oyu're not sure. Since it sounds like it's just reciting, Magic's Price would be as good as any other poem. Personally, I like Windrider Unchained, but that's because I love the guitar work. :) If it's attributed to Mercedes Lackey, I don't see how it would be a breach if all you're doing is reciting her poetry. Keep in mind that Magic's Price was written as song lyrics, though, and I'm not sure if people write differently when writing poetry to be spoken as opposed to be sung. Heck, Loreena McKennit's rendition of Lady of Shalott was written by Tennyson as a poem and it sounds great as a song. Or was it written to be a song originally? -Carson, minstrel, MSOB, etc. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 16:05:09 -0700 From: Tifalheart-+AT+-webtv.net (April Hunt) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Sorry, kenny Message-ID: <199802182305.PAA19448-+AT+-mailtod-132.iap.bryant.webtv.net> if you actually read the one that I wrote, i put in that I didnt actually want to be the Textevd Goddess, that it was a personal joke, and it is... for, you see, anytime that anyone in my family gets marginally good at something they are the Diety of it, or some other exalted sounding title, which really means, youre not getting paid for it but at least it sounds good. if it was my mom, for example, it would be the Textevd Queen.
