StefAn as far as I can tell must be Stefen's twin sister and you're right, Van NEVER knew her...*grin*. I meant Staven who was Lendal's twin, whom he got into so much trouble with. and why couldn't all three Lifebond? There was already a twin bond with the other two, it would be of very little stretch of the imaginagion for Van to bond too. And there was the triple bond with wazzer-names in AOQ. ******************************* Okay, on the justification thread, I happend to run across the passage while I was checking the spelling of Staven's name and I think there is some fodder that needs to be looked at in the Lendal story, an extenuating circumstance if you will. Cuts and snips follow: Pgs 152, 153 3-in-1 LHM. "....They've hired a mage from outKingdom. They turned some- things- loose on the Holding. Magic monsters, maybe from the Pelagirs. Staven went after them with an escort:...That's when when the mage brought them back and ambushed Staven with them."..."These things, they hurt him before they killed him; hurt him awfully. On purpose; on their master's order's." He shuddered. "Stav reached for me- he reached for me through the link - Van, I was *with* him, I *felt* hem die!" "He knew I was there with him; he knew it the moment I linked.. Thank the gods-he knew he wasn't alone. But the las thing, the very last thiing he did was to beg me, plead with me, to *pay them back*"....."I promised him, Van. I *promised* him. Okay, here we have torture, killing innocent people with magical creatures from the Pelagirs (my guess is that Lendel's choice of Wyrsa wasn't coincidental). Then, he promised a dying man his last wish. Carrying out a dying person's last wish is quite duty binding in many fantasy and in fact medieval cultures and a time-honored form of revenge. I still say Gala jumped the gun in repudiating him and if everyone had know the truth, not just Van, things would have gone much different. ************************** IIPTNIG: Loved it, invented one of my favorite types of characters to RP from it (the demon), would happily read it again. Loved the way magic worked, very realistic if you ask me. *************************** Dax shakes the salt water out of her eyes, nods thankfully to Yvvone, and looks for a changing room. Has Misty ever talked of doing a sequel to that, or is it just another one series book (like Fire Rose, which I practically worship!)? Also...I think it was Raven (but I'm not sure) that wrote the alternative lyrics to "American Pie"--which were awesome, BTW--could someone send me those? I mistakenly deleted it from my files (sob!) Thinking back to past conversations, she smiled as an idea came to her mind. Imagining the clothes just right in her mind, she "poofed" ShadowWolf's clothes into a black buckskin outfit that she remembered him wearing before. Grinning at her dance partner's astonished gape, she just _had_ to give herself a metaphorical pat on the back. One thing remained to be done... :Heyla Ana! Could you stop after this song? Carson's itching to sing!: A Pause before: :Hmm, ok. Hold on.: Blade waited a while and the song dittered off into silence. Projecting her voice into the Hall, Blade just _had_ to do a fanfair bit before she introduced Carson... "Yeah well, people, now that you have enjoyed 20th century Fox's fanfair, I present to you Carson, the minstrel, who just itches to sing All Soul's Night by Loreena M! Hit it Carson, m'dear!" Blade crossed her fingers that Carson heard that. For an extra safety precaution, she made a mike hang in front of Carson's face -- wherever the minstrel was. She heard a startled giggle before the Karaoke-ing (hey! I spelt it right!) began. Just then, she felt more new-comers to the Hall. Why, it's Dax! and...Carrach? Blade blew on her palm and two bubbles floated in front of a rather messy-looking Goddess. A neon "Welcome -- from Shadowblade" flashed in the sphere. With a self-satisfied smile, she went back to bouncing on the floor. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Feb 1998 22:08:57 -0800 (PST) From: Ana Cotton To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: re:braid-story Message-ID: <19980221060857.17877.rocketmail-+AT+-web1.rocketmail.com> Making this as short as I can. -- Ana looked around, spotted ILI, and *yelled* for her. And all this "theory-ing" is just a hypothesis -- after all, Lendel was the only Herald EveR repudiated. You know, I think that Lendel didn't really rationalise commiting suicide. IMHO, it wasn't a "I deserve to die, she died because of me" kinda thing, it was a "I wanna be with her" kind of impulse. Van was supposed to be the opposite of Lendel remember? And Van's reaction for lendel's death was "I deserve to die". Course, I'm reaching real far here. Me? I also think that even though Gala THOUGHT that the repudiation was effective, it wasn't really! Since a Bond can only be broken by Death, the Bond wasn't Broken until Gala died. And since a Herald normally followed his/her Companion in death like a lifebonded couple(read what Savil told Van in MPawn), and vice versa, Lendel's death would have happened sooner or later. The only reason that Van didn't die after Lendel's death (although he came real close to it) was that Stef was going to come along, and he had a Grand Destiny ahead of him. The reason that the Herald in AotQ didn't die (was it Keren?) was that Sherril(sp?) was already bonded to her and what use was a three-way death? Dax wrote: <> No duh! Therefore, it wouldn't necessarily be an opposite, but more just a different use of the Gift. He wouldn't be un- Healing, he would just be using the power he was Gifted with to do the opposite of it's general intention. When's it set? When's it OUT????? Actually, Sword of Ice is a compilation of stories set on Velgarth written by those other than Misty, but edited by her. There is one very good story in it about Van in the Forest of Sorrows, before Stef joins him there. It's already out in paperback and it's definately worth the money. Awhile back I wrote up a synopsis of all the stories in the book and posted it on the list. Private e-mail me if you'd like a copy of it, and I'll send it on to you. Not much else to say for now. Been really busy, but the "where am I?" list is coming along nicely. For any of the newbies that would like to be added to the list or anyone who hasn't sent me their info yet, send it to me at stasia-+AT+-gte.net. I'm going to try to put it into a web page this weekend if I get the chance.
