Has anyone besides me ever read TAROT by piers anthony- I highly reccomend it thanks to all the other diciples who have done my job for me! NOW TO THE IMPORTANT STUFF! THE VOWS AND HONOR DUOLOGY IS ABOUT TO BECOME A TRILOGY!!!!!!! yep, im excited !!!!!!! this April, dont know what day yet, the paperback of OATHBLOOD will be hitting bookstores all over the us...not only does it continue the story of Tarma and Kethry and their school, but it supposedly has all the previously released T&K stories, for those of us who couldnt find/afford MZB's sword and sorceress compilations....I can hardly wait. I have been busy reading the PERN novels again, and falling in love, again-for those of you who dont know me-all of you really-I read all of my many many books at least twice, if not more. ie, i have only read robert jordans wheel of time three times because there are 7 going on 3 million of those, and have read terry goodkind's sword of truth-the first 3 books-3 times two-patiently awaiting tower of winds?!!!! Also been busy listening to Heart and Enigma sigh soo much to do, so little time and i have to sleep sometimes as it is in the book a college of magics neccesity 5 custom 7 laziness 9 wikedness 11 well, i strive to be wicked, but somehow end up only getting 6-7 a day(some of you must envy me that, i know) As to the discussions about whether some of our fave authors books are less well written than others, i agree that some are better, and some are worse, as a writer myself, i can sympathise with writers block and commend those not quite as well written books, because sometimes it is so hard to write, ie, david eddings Belgariad&Mallorean vs Elenium&Taulmi series, everyone agrees that B&M are way better than E&T, even me who loves DE to the point of obscenity...for those who havent read DE, pick up Pawn of Prophecy at a library or used book store its very short, and it should clue you in as to whether you like his writing or not-or pick it up at a bookstore and read the first paragraph-a test i put all my books to, before buying. It usually works. Yeah, I know Im wayyy off MISTY right now but I dont care if you dont. *giggle* I have been sooo busy really in between reading the Harper Hall and DragonridersofP books and FFTactics....Im so into that game right now, anybody else? or into nintendo/sega style rpging? two words can say it for nin- sqaresoft and enix, but it takes 4 for sega-phantasy star and shining force(or the in the darkness games, same maker)or Langrisser. I am also into almost all types of music, and love to read read read and write and draw, and am into jap anime and manga, particularly SailorMoon and Magic Knight Rayearth, though I do watch-and love-the gorier ones.i also watch Saturday Anime on SciFi channel every chance I get. April-Jeanne Riverwolf, Disciple of Textevd,Hall of MIST There is one word i can spell correctly- pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicavolcanoconiosis "Trust Me."-Silk/Prince Kheldar of Drasnia ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 11:01:11 -0500 From: KATE REYNOLDS To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: SPOILER -- Mage Storms Message-ID: <980224110111.1e890-+AT+-4cty.org> Heyla listsibs -- Last week Carson asked for textevd on what happens to all the 'guardians' at the end of Storm Breaking. It's a SPOILER so if you haven't finished (or even started) the STorms trilogy yet, read no further!! The discussion actually takes several pages, so I'm picking and choosing the bits that best answer the question. The whole thing starts on p. 425of the hardcover edition. " 'It seems that those whose guardians were entirely spirit fared the best,' said Lyam in the dry voice of his. The fur draped over his legs moved :Florian is gone, Karal: Altra said, in the gentlest tones Karal had ever heard him use. :I am the only one of the protectors to survive the experience. I am sorry:" Then again on p. 430: " At this point Karal had an idea that he knew who the young man was, and he gave voice to it. 'Right-Florian,' he replied, and was rewarded by a wink, a flash of a grin, and a nod. 'But if this is where all of you came - after - where are Vanyel, Stefan and Yfandes?' 'Free of the forest for one thing, and high time, too, if you ask me,' Florian replied. 'And probably if you ask them. I suppose it seemed like a good idea at the time, but I suspect they were stuck there a lot longer than they thought they would be.' Karal hadn't the faintest idea what Florian was talking about, and some of his bewilderment must have shown on his face. Florian chuckled. 'Never mind,' he said. 'Basically, they've made decisions about their destinations, and they didn't have a lot of time to make sure they got properly placed, so they've already gone on. I can't tell you what they decided, but it's going to be fine. As for me,' he continued with a wink, 'I've made mine, too, but I wasn't so picky. It should be obvious if you think about it, but don't tell any Heralds, all right?' Karal nodded solumnly;; Florian's decision was obvious, though he doubted that his friend was going to look anything like he did at the moment when he returned to the world. Then again, maybe he would. Karal branded that face into his memory. If in fifteen or twenty years' time, Karal - or rather, Altra - saw a Herald who looked like this, they would both know who it was." Sorry I copied so much, but it was making me think -- two questions. 1) Where did Van, Stef and 'Fandes have to hurry off to? Certainly not the Havens, there'd be no reason to rush there. 2) Isn't this the first suggestion that COMPANIONS can return as HERALDS rather than the reverse? What do sibs think about this development? Maybe 'Fandes would go to the Havens, but I think she would opt for Companion again, personally. Also, the memory thing....and ressurection of Companions as humans-you are obviously forgetting that most companions were human to start with...the main difference between coming back as a Companion is that you remember your previous existance, but when you come back as a human, the slate is more or less wiped clean, except for obvious exceptions, such as the lifebond between Tylendel/Stefen and Vanyel. Also a point I would love to make is that there were originally about 30 Grove-born Companions when Companions first started to appear, so if they all chose to be reincarnated as Companions-up until present time, they are still Grove-born Companions, in spirit, if not horse-shaped body.(and that number can grow with the more MOC and assorted Grove-Borns that show up, for whatever reason) Someone said(Raibnbow?) that Talia had made a faux pas in saying "particularily the fertility of Grove-born Companions", note that that could have been from the Chronicles of Valdemar, or some lingering something in her mind almost let her be aware subconsiously that Gwena is Grove-born, even though Rolan blocked it out. Someone else aske why Talia could mind-speek Grifon and Devan, I am pretty sure that it was Rolan relaying what Talia felt to him..or said....(The note on the rules for making a Herald persona via Queens Own, which were written by Misty say " you-a Herald-will ALWAYS have limited mind-speech with your Companion while in trance.) Direct quote from http://www.morestuff.com/words/moregood.htm on 2/24/98, 6:45 pm EST Another thing - I keep missing the post that has the URL of the archived ring story! Could someone either repost it or send it to me privately? Note, I did collaborate off-list with Lady Sophia, I'm not posing her w/o permission, and I guess the story is dying out, but I really wanted to sing my song... :> Oh, and I'd like to note on-list - the story that we're doing off-list isn't a continuation of the Ring Story, it'll be something new. Mail me or Fallenangel *** The rather startled minstrel blinks as a mike materializes out of thin air in front of her. Hearing the wailing that signals the intro to "All Soul's Night", she figures she's up for karaoke. Sending a quick prayer to the Goddess of Music and Song for help in emulating the incredible Loreena (as well as a guilty apology for deserting the White Hall earlier), she starts the descant in a clear, ringing, incredibly delicate soprano. As she glances up, she sees a shimmering figure regarding her from the top of the staircase. Without warning, a rich bell-like alto lends harmony and depth to the song, as a shimmering, high, flute-like voice soars high above the main melody, supporting and twining about the minstrel's increasing rich soprano like ivy about an oak. Delighted, the minstrel pours herself into her performance with strength and emotion, singing as never before. When she finishes, she realizes that the entire Hall has gone silent, before erupting into applause. The minstrel bows formally, and glances up, wondering how the Goddess managed to sing two parts at the same time - if indeed that *was* the Goddess of Music and Song. *Well done, Lady Minstrel!* says a bell-like voice only she can here. *Be known that you are now a Minstrel of the Goddess of Music and Song!* **** -Carson ska Silence de Cherbourg, Trouvere ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 16:39:43 -0800 From: Niki Nibbe To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: little (yeah, right) braid Message-ID: <34F3684F.3EDA-+AT+-earthlink.net> Really quickly throwing this in -- trying to be more than a one-liner, but I've gotta run. (Good thing I'm so long-winded:-}) First, the "ring passing" was a ceremony invented by Cennydd and presented in story form (can find this at archive #980207-1481). The idea was to pass on a Ring of Friendship to somebody else each Friday, sort of have an ongoing thing. Now, the story was so great, I was inspired to respond in like form, and then a whole bunch of people started storying. So now there's a little story going (most of which you can find at on Ana's webbpage at http://www.herald.co.uk/pub/lists/lackey-archives/recent.html ), and the Ring is really tangential to the whole little party we've fantasized. So the short answer is, yes, you can be a part of it. The ring will be passed on each Friday, and at one point you may be a recipient. The beauty of the ring is that when you pass it on, you receive back threefold your gift -- the ring is one ring made of three bands (silver, gold & Platinum); the giver is left with three bands (one silver, one gold, etc.) Next, thanks for the correction on the Fluff page -- must have grabbed the wrong one *blushing* Jeanne -- good job. I noticed. ;-) For the person asking about Arrows -- yes, I love the series. I love Magic's..., but I really find myself relating to Talia, so I kinda prefer Arrows. I think you'll like them. More Oath books? The end of the trilogy? *leaping and dancing for joy* Love Tarma & Kethry OT -- yes, Pern is wonderful, and I love Robinton! There's more I want to respond to, but I've gotta go run some errands before my borrowed car turns into a pumpkin (YOU try living in L.A. without a car -- not fun). Lastly, I love that everyone's blaming the sun-hogging on Florida -- I won't tell you what an absolutely glorious day it was here in L.A., no, probably wouldn't be such a good idea. (Sun shining, 70 degrees, clear as can be, storm just swept through so everthing looks clean, snow on the mountains, grass on the hills. *sigh*) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 16:52:55 -0800 From: Niki Nibbe To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: that name you can spell Message-ID: <34F36B67.66A-+AT+-earthlink.net> Hmm. Trying to leave, and trying to avoid that WORD -- but Muranog has tempted me into the fray. Since I just gave up trying to balance studying both geology and biology (hey -- they're complementary if I say they are!), my interest is piqued. So I'll try to use the limited knowledge I learned in my pathology class at massage school, and take a stab -- pneumo has to do with lungs; ultramicroscopic sounds self-explanatory; silicavolcano -- sure sounds like a rhyolitic volcano to me, tho perhaps "volcanoconi" give a deeper clue to the meaning; the "coni" part's confusing me; and "osis" is a latin suffix meaning "abnormal condition" > Muranog Shadowbane wrote: >>pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicavolcanoconiosis > > Hmm...by the 'silicavolcano' part, I'd imagine it's some kind of > lung or respiratory ailment to do with exposure to volcanic ash > and dust particles?
