Message-ID: <3.0.3.32.19980331092133.006c6804-+AT+-mail.geocities.com> All right, unless anyone has any problems with it, I will respond to Muranog Shadowbane's request that _someone_ start this order, and I'll do it. Do I hear any complaints? Here goes! Those who desire to be in the Order of Unsung Heros, joining up is really really easy. First, you send me e-mail privately (mailto:morningstar-+AT+-poetic.com) stating your desire to be in the Order, complete with any information you would care to have linked to you on an associated web page that I will maintain. (information can be anything, web page, e-mail address, general stuff) Your request will be granted no problem, then you can start signing your e-mails with, oh... Lessee... Member of the Order of Unsung Heros or something. If you want, you can make it fancy, but please let me know your preferred title to stick on the web page. Your duties, if you choose to be a member of this order, are as follows: First: Whenever appropriate (obMistys are GREAT places) find nice, obscure information that no one ever realized or appreciated to your knowledge and share them, particularly when they go along with the second duty: Second: To support the Unsung Heros wherever possible in conversation Third: Whenever your RL duties and book availability permits, to look up textevd to do with the Unsung Heros whenever possible. If anyone has any other ideas for duties, please let me know. Rules: One: Thou shalt not get exceptionaly fluffy in thy work for the Order--in other words, please keep requests for joining and other such tidbits in private e-mail. Two: uh... Thou shalt let me know should thee think of more appropriate rules, also in private e-mail. As it occurs to me, I will think of nice different Order-related things to post or questions to ask... Later on down the line, maybe even a poll! +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- obMisty: regarding Heralds being self-serving or not. In Arrows of the Queen, when Talia first is in Orientation, I think Griffon sums up quite nicely the nature of Heralds, which I think bears out that Companions. This is my Arrows of the Queen paperback, page 119. Griffon found the words for her. "We've all heard the tales, sir--the ones with the bad, nasty endings right along with the ones that end with the hero's welcomes and celebrations. And I got here right after Talamir was buried; you think we didn't hear the talk then about poison? My own brother said right out he thoguth I was crazy to want to be a Herald. When we hear the bad tales, you best bet we get scared! But it's still something we _got_ to do, just like Vanyel. Maybe you can't be made a Herald, maybe you got to be born one, and all this teaching you give us does is show us how to do better 'n easier the things we know we got to do anyway. Whatever. It's like bein' likker-cravin' or something. You still got to do it, no choice; couldn't stop, don't want to." He sat down with a thump, only then realizing he'd risen to his feet making his speech. Herald Teren's tense expression eased. "I take it that you all agree with Griffon?" They nodded, very much sobered. "Then I can only say that once again, as always, the Companions seem to have chosen aright." That, to me, bears out that Companions choose only those who are generous and selfless, not self-serving. Heralds even expect it of themselves, as is borne out by the piece in Arrow's Fall (pg83) which someone mentioned earlier, when Talia is in with Destria. (in Destria's thoughts, at first, thoughts marked with [] for now.) [I failed--] That was the most overwhelming. [They counted on me, and I failed.] But there was something more, something that kept the guilt feeding on itself until Destria loathed her own being. And Talia found it, hiding underneath, festering. [And I failed because I wanted something for me. I failed because I was selfish; I don't deserve my Whites--I deserve to die.] This was something Talia was only too familiar with; and was something Rynee wouldn't understand. Healers were firm believers in a little honest selfishness; it kept a person sane and healthy. Heralds, though--well, heralds were supposed to be completely unselfish, totally devoted to duty. That was nonsense, of course; Heralds were only people. The passage continues, to show Talia's own inclinations in that direction. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Well, since I've not been posting for a while, it's about time I introduced myself to the newbies. My heart and family always have room for another. As for your familiar. Here she is. I hope you approve." Heartsong smiles with glee as she steps aside to reveal a huge black cat. At first glance, she looks like Apache Tear and just as Freedom is about to speak up, the delicate creature walks into the full light of the Hall. All that see her are taken aback. For she is black as night in the dark, but in the sun of full day she is blazing fire color. She mentally laughs into Freedom's mind: I know I may seem a bit flamboyant for a warrior like you, but I am not. My name is Makana, which means warrior of the fire. I am a warrior princess where I am from and have seen as many battles as you. I am as dark as night for prowling in the dark and a blazing inferno for the heat of battle. I am just as strong willed as you and cunning. And before you thank our young sorceress, I want it made clear that she brought me here yes. But I have been watching you for sometime in my own world thru her. I was just waiting for the proper opportunity to appear and this seemed like the best time. So I propose a friendship to you Allaya. Heartsong's mouth drops to the ground and Apache Tear turns her head towards the group as they both realize the honor that Makana ahs bestowed on Freedom. Before anyone could speak Woosa stepped forward o explain,"Freedom, our friend just basically called you feline sib I guess would be the best translation. Anyways, it is an honor that most of her kind do not bestow most on the human realm. Her kind do not normally associate with us. I thought I would just post a note in response to this. There have been a lot of questions about personae on this list and maybe this will help clarify some things. On Tue, 31 Mar 1998, darvoso wrote: > Mage/Scouts are apparently a nono, so what kind of persona's are > allowed...??...I really don't mind about the persona so much, I'm more > intrested in talking bout ML, but still..persona's are neat to have.. Well, the thing is, since this isn't a role-playing game/list, personae don't need to be very developed. Mages are fine. There are lots of mages on the list (me, for example). However, I can count the times that I have done a mage-like thing on this list on the fingers of both hands. Basically, personae boil down to little more than a usename and a list of titles. The best way to develop a persona for this list is to join some list-groups that appeal to you. Maybe you could be a Knight of the Order of Amber and Marigold (Vanyel's defenders) or the Fluffian Order (who are dedicated to promoting responsible use of fluff on the list--and do a very good job, btw)? Or, you might apply to be Named as a divinity. Or you could found your own order (btw, the original "color" groups are still possible, although I don't know who is in charge of them any more). For example, my "persona" on the list is: Cennydd, the Mage of Green Silences, Councilor of Mist, Object of Unrequited Love/Lust to the Ladies of the Pink Wand, God of Karma, Avatar of the Goddess of Nomenclature, ally of the Ladies and Champions in Green, Chef-Adept, and (semi) official flamer for excessive quoting. Occasionally, I have, in the past, done something that could be considered role-playing (my (in)famous strip tease dances, the "Visits from the Mage," and the Ring Ceremony). But for the most part, I don't do any role-playing here since it is a discussion list and not a RPG list. Anyway, to clarify the underlying question (as I understand it), you are welcome to make your persona on this list as inventive or as "you" as you like. Many people prefer to just be themselves, without a fictional persona. The only real guidelines are that you can't use a copyrighted character as your persona, that you can't appoint yourself with a title of divinity (you need to apply to Lady Thessaly or myself), and that you have to ask to join any pre-existing groups. What type of persona you want to have is completely ungoverned (with the aforementioned exception of no copyrighted character types being allowed). You can be a mage, a bard, a scout (but not a Howkbrother scout), an assistant pig-keeper (although not one from Caer Dallben), or whatever else takes your fancy. However, just remember that whatever your persona is, it's just window-dressing on this list, not a RP character. Anyone have a handy list...I've got recipies for bri..erm, payments if anyone wants to tell me all? > that you can't appoint yourself with a title of divinity (you need to apply > to Lady Thessaly or myself), and that you have to ask to join any > pre-existing groups. What type of persona you want to have is completely > ungoverned (with the aforementioned exception of no copyrighted character > types being allowed). You can be a mage, a bard, a scout (but not a > Howkbrother scout), an assistant pig-keeper (although not one from Caer > Dallben), or whatever else takes your fancy. How about a bit of all? I'll go by the name Winternight, if no-one minds, not a hawkbrother scout, just..Winternight. :) [okay, 'nother question about getting bonded type animals? refer to previous appeal for listings, with aforementioned payment still in effect :)] And just a tidbit for wonder.....if Mercedes still writes..does she do it entirely for money, or for enjoyment, or a bit of both!? *ponders* Oh well, nough said. Waits for your answers.. Winternight [finally!] ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Apr 1998 00:52:49 PST From: "Becca Gordon" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: OUH/Last post/and Becca too Message-ID: <19980401085251.6358.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Ok everyone this is my last post! Update on Danilo: He' is now one ofthe Lords of the City, a Bard (WITH the magical powers), founder of the Bardic college New Olamn, saviour of many people, including Eliath Craulnober and his daughter. I think the best comparison is The Scarlet Pimpernel (Lord Percy) who acted like a fop in public, but was really a very deep and serious freedom fighter.(And a blond, like Danilo*blissful sigh*) Anyway, Danilo loves Arilyn, and she has ~FINALLY~ admitted to her feelings for him, though it took having the queen of the elves (her grandmother) acknowledging her as much as she possibly could, losing her virginity to a sylvan elf named Foxfire, and saving Danilo's soul before she figured it out. (Which is part of why I don't like her all that much) * * * *****END OF SPOILER***** * * * Well, since none of that had anything even remotely to do with Misty, which means it's practically unsubmittable, I'll hve to put in some ObMisty. First off, have we decided who's working the Order?? MorningStar seems to be the popular choice. Also, people are forgetting to warn about spoilers, and I for one don't want to here about Fiddler Fair's stories,Oathblood, or Owlflight until I've had a chance to read them, or even skim them, myself, so please people, give a warning. Are there any M.I.M.E(Mamoru's Incarnations Must be Eliminated) members on this list?? Becouse I'm a M.I.T.H.ian, you see,and so I need to know these things...
