Etain jumps off of her couch and shouts:  
"IT'S DONE!!!  MY STUPID PROGRAM IS DONE AND HANDED IN!  YAY!"  She starts running around the room jumping for joy, and stops long enough to give some Hummus and stuff to Jeanne.  
"Here ya go!"

Suddenly tired from all her exertions, she goes to take a nap on the extra-large heated waterbed next to the jacuzzi.  "Now I can finally sleep!"  

The last thought she has before drifting off to sleep is :'Hmm... I've been lonely lately.  Maybe I need a mindmate.  Perhaps a pookah? Hmmm... But how would a pookah find it's way into the halls of Mist....'

I love Irish myth (as I am sure most of us do), in fact that's what I eventually want to teach.  :>  My favorite thing was always the cauldron of the Dagdah, you know, the one that was never empty?  Heh heh... I think we need one of those in here!  <G>  

Well, I am working on becoming a member of QO, if I ever get the stuff done ::sigh:: but with being a member of the MisticCircle and two other Weyrs besides, plus all my homework It's goin kinda slow.  :> (this doesn't fall under the fan-fic no-no does it?  I didn't think so..:>)  If any of you AOLers are on here, it has a great QO division called Arrows on Line... :) 

::sigh:: If anyone knows of a Robert Jordan Support group, let me know?  I own all but the last book...  :>  I have this problem, I read books from the library, then I buy them if I like them... It's a serious problem, and I'm trying to get help...  :>

I introduced myself some time ago, but haven't had the time to write an
messages. So I thought I would do so now:

Cymrey wanders about in the Mist catching snippets of conversation now and
then. Her head, however, begins to ache after hearing mentions of unicorns and
felines and dragons and Gods/Goddesses. Her familiar, a small white finch bird
named Raven, nestled quietly in her hair and grumbled in her sleep. Cymrey
shook her head and smiled lightly.

hehe, not to good at fluffy stuff yet. On to the questions:
I gotta ask, What is the friendship ring? I've only seen one post of it and it
looks pretty cool.
'Nother one: How do you get a bondbird? Raven is only my familiar and I dont
think she'll get jealous if I have a bondbird. <grin>
 Also:
On the Kethry in Valdemar thing~~ I think the reason she was only slightly
bothered by crossing the border is that the borders had changed so much from
the time that the watcher spell had been set that it was having trouble. I
seem to remember someone saying something like that in the Storms books. (dont
happen to have my books right now) 
Well, that's just my .02
(And not very well organized .02 at that!)

I am sorry to say that Safa and I must depart from all of your lovely

I agree on all counts.  I just re-read The Blue Sword yesterday (for the
I-don't-know-how-many-th time <g>), and re-read The Hero and the Crown
two days before that.  I love them both.  I also enjoyed McKinley's books
Beauty and Deerskin.

I also read Robert Jordan.  I love his books, because I think he creates
the world better than just about anybody (especially the history part --
it seems like the world has existed for a long time, that the more recent
history is present in everyones' minds, and the distant history is faded
and has turned into legends -- just like Earth).  I must say, though,
that it's getting very long.  I re-read the whole series in December, but
it's only the second time, because there's just so much to read!  But I
can't seem to stop, either . . . <sigh>

ObMisty --
AH!  I asked all my questions already!   . . . . . . . <searching for a
looooong time to find an ObMisty> . . . . . . . . . AH! Here's one.  Does
anyone know how Jedren got the land that he moved Keth's White Winds
school onto?  I think it might say in BTS, but I don't remember . . .

I am sure that ANY Herald can work a first-stage truth spell. I would provide
textevd, but Rainbow has already done so. I am also sure that only those with
communication gifts can work the second stage (as Rainbow had guessed). I
cannot seem to findthe textevd for this, but I am very sure that it's true, so
I just wanted to confirm what Rainbow had already put forth.

Does anyone else (of school age, esp., but really of any age) just long for a
school like the Collegium? It is my dream school to a T: small classes, mature
students, and no "Do we have to's?" Also, the atmosphere of a truly caring
environment and teachers who, after the class is over, become friends? Too bad
there's nothing like it (at least, that I know of).

Anyway, what I do have a comment about is the Tannim/Jinx high thing.  
I, too, loved that, except for one leetle thing... Tannim later on says 
that his first contact with magic was a duel between a witch and a 
sorceress, the witch being the good gal- so right,this sounds like it 
fits the bill, and how often can something like that really happen in a 
relatively small town?  So this is prolly his first contact with 
magic... but he also says at one point that the dragon (fergetting the 
name- apologies (Clinthliss???)) gave him the name Tannim.  So- that's 
my only complaint, that he prolly shouldn't have had the name yet.  But 
oh well.  I loved the book, I loved the fact that he was in it, so I'm 
not complaining:).

Speaking of which- did anybody notice in the Knight of Ghosts and 
Shadows books that Misty herself showed up?  The group of Oklahoma folks 
who met Eric playing on the street?  I thought that was way cool.

Anyway, gotta go!

Okay, okay...You've pulled me out of hiding. Had to come out soon anyway.
First of all, I have never read this book. However, my friend Rillian has,
and I've seen the section that they talk about this in. It doesn't mention
Tannim's name at all. It just talks about this guy with bright green eyes
who asked Diana to dance at the school dance. It was after this that he
talked to Chinthliss, and found out that Chinthliss was a real dragon. Too
much magic for one night, methinks. And the name Tannim means 'Son of
Dragons'...it's a dual play on names. His original last name was Drake,
which is a name for a dragon, and he was also like Chinthliss' foster son.
It is unknown how long he has had the name Tannim, but it is the only name
that he goes by. Even his parents call him Tannim. It would be interesting
to find out what his real name is, tho.

for my rather well-worn copy of KoG&S to see if it was true, and low and
behold, there she is! *blush* Shows how much attention I've been paying, huh?

FLUFF ALERT!!!!

Several screaming warriors riding chocolate-colored sheep ride into the
Halls of Mist. This probably wouldn't be too interesting, except they are
all about 6 inches high, and are being followed by a screaming Ashandra. She
is now wearing the blue/green robes of a priestess of the Goddess of Elves,
and her strawberry blonde hair is going all over the place as she tries to
catch up with the brownies.
Finally she gives up, collapsing in a chair. She grins at her listsibs and
shouts 'Try to stay out of their way. I don't think they are really
dangerous, but those spears and weapons are sharp!' She rubs her wrist where
she got poked by one.
She sighs as she hears something crash to the floor and mutters to herself
'PLEASE let them run out of steam soon...'

When did Keth go into Valdemar?!?  They were at the border once, but they never
went in, if she would have the Vrondi would have driven her *nuts*  The
protections didn't start failing until after Ancar brutally beat them down, and
really, they wouldn't have 'died' perse, as it wasn't a barrier, so much as a very
specific coercion spell, with the vrondi using the node under haven as 'food',
until Van took them down, or the energy was all gone, which was what was happening
[1,000 years will drain any good node :)], but *that* problem was solved by the
energy transfer of Firesong's Proto-Gate to Haven's lil heartstone.  The only
reason that Van and 'Fandes took down the protections is that mages were needed
*so* badly, not so much for Ancar, although that played a large part in it, but
for the enroaching Mage-Storms. :):)

I do beilive it was a royal grant of some sort or another, although I'm not as
sure as that as I am on my previous statement. :)

Speaking of Celtic mythology...has anyone ever read Gael Baudino's "Strands

Greetings to all here on the list....

I have just discovered the list and have been reading the past few days of
messages.  I have been a fan of Misty ever since I met her at a small Science
Fiction / Fantasy convention about six years ago.  And since then I've
infected many more people with the Misty virus...  ;)

I would have to say my favorite characters have been the Diana Tregardie
stories and the Oath series.  I'm afraid I don't have anything "Fluffy" to say
besides my introduction though...  I'm a bit of a newbie about some of the
online fan activity and the letters I sent to Queens Own a number of years ago
went unanswered.  

I'm looking forward to participating...

The first selection tells us that Tannim had encountered Chinthliss long 
before the events in Jinx High; the second tells us that Chinthliss was 
involved in Tannim's change of name. We can assume that, since Tannim 
says "one of [his] teachers" renamed him, Chinthliss was responsible for 
naming him "Tannim."

Since Tannim met Chinthliss prior to the spring dance at Jenks High, 
it's a safe guess that Chinthliss gave him the name before Tannim 
realized that Chinthliss was real.

    I strongly disagree with this!  If you look closely at the characters,
you will find that the women who are most disagreeable are all Aes Sedai.
Now, if you agree with the old adage that power corrupts and absolute power
corrupts absolutely, you will have to admit that it is not inconceivable
that a society of all-powerful women would develop some very unpleasant
members over the course of several centuries.  I think one of Jordan's
strengths is his protrayal of strong women who are actualizers instead of
folowers.

In reference to women characters of Robert Jordan:

I have to agree with John on this one.  Jordan builds up the strength 
of his women characters the way that Misty does.  They may have their 
faults, but then any character with "character" does.  (forgive my 
bad pun.)  Also, I feel that the Maiden's of the Spear and the other 
Aiel warriors are very like the Shin'a'in.  Like the Shin'a'in, they 
were given objects of power to guard.  Any thoughts on this?

Pooka--see Puca
Anglicised as Pooka.  A mischievous spirit who led travellers astray or
performed other devilment.  It occurs in later legend and seems to have no
basis in myth.  It could well be an import through the Danish settlements in
Ireland, taken from the Norse puki.  It also went into Welsh as pwca and into
English as Puck.

Heartsong runs out of the Mist and disappears. She reappears in fromt of
Chayla and gives her a huge hug. "I am glad there is sucha dragon fan. My
SkyDancer loves praise and memories of other dragons. Maybe you could tell
him stories sometime. He was brought here when he was just a babe and has
not learned much of hs culture." A large blue head appeared over her
shouldr and nudged her. She laughed,"This is my baby, SkyDancer and the
little guy over there in Woosa. He is a miniature dragon from my home
country. He was my first teacher. Also Chenci, a white hawk and Apache
Tear, my overgrown furball. Anytime you need anything, yell. I have not
been home in a long time either."

Apache Tear nuzzles Chayla's hand and places an Apache Tear necklace in
it. Woosa shakes her hand and gives her a hug, while SkyDancer nuzzles her
face and mindsends: Anytime you would like a ride. Feel free to ask, my
bonded does not give me enough exercise. He looks to Heartsong and she
blushes. Then she and the others head off to cool off in the water fall.
She gestures for Chayla to come. Then she hears the troll warning and
watches out for them.

Hello, all!  I'm only through my Saturday messages, so I have no idea
where the list's really at right now...but if I don't send a message
now, I'll probably get too buried to do so later. *g*

Quickly on the subject of comparing Velgarth countries to Earth
countries -- I agree that they're probably -loosely- based on existing
countries...or, at least, American preconceptions of existing countries
and peoples...but I really can't see Valdemar as America.  I mean, I
haven't seen any royalty around here, and we really are supposed to have
that whole balanced government thing....Keep in mind also that many
(most) of Velgarth's countries are in approximately renaissance or
post-renaissance times as far as their economic structures, so that's
gonna make it really hard to compare any of them to America...unless she
throws in some colonies somewhere *g*  I suspect there may have been
some conscious modeling of the varios countries to get a "variety" like
we really have, but beyond that, she's mostly trying to create a unique
and different m.o. for each country...in RL, nothing's quite that black
& white ... and her imagination probably plays a large part in creating
the tapestry she's looking for. Hmm.. I have more to say, but I'll stop
here, 'cause when I tried to say it, it didn't make sense.

Um, just a little reminder, since a few of you have been seen doing
this...when you reply to a message, please include ONLY the relevant
part of the message you're replying to.  I know your mail software might
have pasted all of the message..it's up to you to delete the rest. I
won't go into the reasons for why you should snip (common courtesy;
makes it expensive for some people; etc.); I'll just appeal to your

Okay, enough of that serious stuff.. Can't help anyone with really
current books...however, for anybody looking for older, used books...I
work in a used bookstore sometimes, and if anybody has a book or books
they've been trying to find, perhaps I could keep an eye open. As far as
mailing them, I can tell you that Winds books, sent from L.A. to N.Y.,
cost $2.95 to mail (I my extra Misty books to Carson).  Hardcovers would
probably cost more, and mailing to other countries might also be more
expenseive...but if there's a book you really want, it might be worth
it.  As for the books themselves, prices are pretty reasonable.  Anyway,
