I'm in the middle of Oathblood....and I believe that a few people said
that they were disappointed in it? I love it - I never did read all of
the Tarama and Kethry stories, because S&S books are REALLY hard to find
here....

And, my Dark Mage days are behind me... more or less, anyway. Haven't
played poker with Leareth in... oh, simply AGES....  *wicked grin* But
I'll see what I can do for your... whatever he is.
*She walks over to the slumbering creature and nudges him lightly with
her foot. Glancing at her black panther bond-mate Isis, Fallenangel
conferred silently with her for a moment, then heads back toward Amp*
Here... *handing him a small packet of powder* I suggest mixing this
with something he'll drink, after we wake him up, and making him drink
it. Okay Isis, go to work! *The panther and Fallenangel walked back over
to him, and proceeded to murmur phrases that the others couldn't quite
hear, and their corner of the Hall started glowing with a faint maroon
light. After a couple of minutes, they both stepped back, revealing the
esper/jenova/w*rsa critter, standing none to steadily on his feet* There
you go! *Then, as they drift away into the depths of the Hall,* I didn't
corrupt him... well, not any more then he already was, anyway....

I am not sure if there is some protocol i am breaching but *shrug* if
so, tell me and i am sorry yet i cant do much about it *gryn* i dont
like protocol as a general rule anyways. well i have been lurking for
a couple days and have been enjoying it! some interesting discussions
and fluff. i was reading one sent by shadowspun-+AT+-juno.com (Heather A
Tomlinson)
They asked about the char. Tannim. He is in the SERRAted Edge books.
most notably in Chrome Circle [a favorite of mine.] and also in Born
to Run although not as prominately. He is a wonderful char. and would
be a very worthy and quite, quite good friend. I admire him very much,
in some ways he is not unlike Vanyel. 
Speaking of which, someone [who i was so short sighted as to not write
down, am sorry] mentioned if anyone saw The Lasy Herald Mage series as
depressing [or soemthing along those lines...i AM not pleased w/
myself for not copying it down...] and i would like to put my two
cents in about that. whenever i read a well written book, it affects
my emotions and, in a somewhat limited fashion, my life. thats part of
the fun of reading well written books, and why i search for them. 
anyway, the only 3 books i have yet to read that have an overall
'mood' and dont flucuate wildly through the book are the LHM series.
as i percieve it, the first book's <Magic's Pawn> 'mood' is Pain. both
physical, mental, and emotional. the second <Magic's Promise> is
Weariness. both physically and weary of this world, yearning to leave
it and go on to the next, but hindered by Duty. the third <Magic's
Price> is Happiness and Peace. needless to say, i reread the latter
more often *gryn* 


well thats my two cents. along w/ a shameless plug for the SERRAted
Edge series as a whole. it is just as well written and enjoyable as
the Valdemar series...which is saying alot..




NOTE:in a previous email, another person [SIGH, again quite sorry for
the oversight of not jotting down who and the exact words] typed the
Dedication [i believe thats the correct term] for Born To Run and
mentioned that you know her alot better when authors write such
personal things. i must say i concur, (along w/ the 2 things she wrote
which are rather angry but also show alot of her.

such magnificent creations flow. i also must say that thats one reason
why i enjoy Piers Anthony's work so much: not only is it refreshing
and origional but almost all of his many novels have Author's Notes in
the back. unlike other Authors' Notes these are from his life and are
very revealing about the kind of person he is.

FX is a VERY wonderful char. and ANOTHER great reason to read the
SERRAted Edge series! thats where he comes from. he IS very delightful
and refreshing. he is a friend to Tannim but seems to have connections
w/ many others also. he is in both Born to Run and Chrome
Circle..perhaps more but those are the two i recall. he is also
featured more prominately(sp?) in Chrome Circle. so *hint* READ THE
SERRATED EDGE SERIES!!

Seriously, did anyone else think that the movie Men In Black was very
heavily based on Heinlein's Puppet Master's?  It's another super-secret
organization protecting the earth from alien invasion.  Maybe Heinlein's
estate should sue. While I'm at it I offer all of my listsibs water.  Do

I'm glad you asked that question.  Foxtrot X-ray is a japanese fox spirit
or, kitsune.  His major appearance is in the book Chrome Circle where we
first meet him as a James Dean look-alike. <kitsune are shapeshifters> A
kitsune's mode of operation is mischief, deception and trickery.  Usually
kitsune cannot affect the physical world directly and must use cleverness
and illusion to get others to do things in the physical realm.  

My other reason for answering this question is that someone threw out the
challenge to find Foxtrot X-ray's real name.  Here's the Textevd.  Chrome
Circle page 174 (Lady Ako speaking to Shar) "Saski Berith who calls himself
Foxtrot X-ray is now among the missing" Lady Ako continued. "I believe that
he is in the humans' world even now."

Please forgive me if this has already been answered previously.  It was the
only ObMisty that I could think of right now.

I like the first better. Remember, the first ti Van used magic after
setting the wards, the vrondi still wanted him to give back the "I'm a
herald" signal or whatever it was - they didn't automatically recognize
him. But yeah, she knew what vrondi were. 


Wasn't there some character that said, "The nature of the

think... I could either go searching through my books (thanx to Niki
for sending 'em to me! Yaaaay!) Or I could do my math homework due
tomorrow... Sorry, but academics wins out.

Well, that woulda been Need who said that.  She wasn't quite happy.  And
the change she referedto, I beilive is their watching over Mage energies.
:)  Vrondi don't *normally* do that. :)  Okay, Me done now, don't yell at
me for no Obmisty!  I just dunno what to ask..except...

In Obound, where Tarma goes off to fight the 'townsfolk' in the Ritual
combat whilst Kethry finds evidence that the girl..um...Myria...is not
guilty of murdering her husband, their are apparently enough 'good'
fighters in this small town to fight Tarma off? I mean...that maketh no
sense.  Oh well, maybe it's just me. :)

	I know, I just sent a post a couple hours ago and I recently said
something about not posting twice a day - my apologies, but I had a couple
of things that I thought were important. For one thing, I'm sorry about my
previous post - I didn't have it worded as well as I wanted, didn't have my
information updated (I'm pretty sure it was Need who said the thing about
the vrondi), didn't have it edited (for those of you who got confused by
that post, I'd wrote it last night around 12:15 and stuck it in my outbox
to work on later), and to be perfectly honest, I didn't even realize I'd
sent it until it came back to me on the list. It's been a very busy week -
I must've hit send without realizing it. Oops. :)
	For another thing, the [MisticCircle] list was having technical
difficulties earlier this evening. If you've been having trouble, please,

	I did't read Gossimar Axe, I couldn't get through the Fey 'Strands of

	Pookas are mischevious shapechangers in European myth. They are usually
dogs, goats, or horses, IIRC. I reead a really good book about a pooka once

I'll get textedv if I have to, but I think I went overboard last time, 
so....

Firstly, I don't recall that it says Felwether is all that small of a 
town. After all, there's a Keep complete with Lord, Lady, and Seneschal 
right there. I'd say that it's less a town and more a Hold or somesuch.

Secondly--Tarma beat everyone she went up against except for the last 
opponent, who would have had her had not Keth found proof supporting 
Lady Myria's innocence. She thinks to herself about how not many 
Kalenedral could boast to have bested twelve opponents in ritual 
combat... even if some of them were mere babes. She also makes a mental 
comment as to how the two-bladed man who nearly got her was "the first 
real opponent she'd had all day."

As a side note, I personally thought Tarma's last opponent, the man with 
the double swords, was rather cool.

I agree with Raven. Also there is no way it could be a small town because
the culprit who set the wife up was after the fortune that she snd her son
were due to inherit. If it was a small claim, I do not think he would have
gone to so much trouble. Also in the days that this took place there was
still much rivalry between estates an so every manor had at least pne
assasin. Not only that, the wife had three brothers at her father's
estate. They may have brought in top fighters to contend with her
challenger as they would assume it would be one of her brothers. 

On another note. In reference to the story in the Witch World book that
Lackey  wrote it was a big cat the gril turned into, but it was not a
black panther because she had spots.

Heartsong enters the Hall in a new outfit. She is wearing tight black
fitting leather hunting outfit. Her hair is now long and dark brown. It is
braided with silver and gold ribbons down her back. Chenci sits on her
shoulder while Apache Tear is on one side and Ember on the other. GoldDust
lands long enough for Heartsong to climb on. Then they are off to see
Shadowspun.Heartsong jumps off GoldDust's back ahugs Shadow spun. "It has
been awhile since we've seen you. Missed ya." Then Apache Tear jumps up
and licks her and she minsends: I missed you and I would like you to meet
my mate Ember. The red panther nuzzles her hand and places a ever glowing
ember in her hand. It is not hot to the touch and will always keep the
barer warm. Then SkyDancer waves hi and introduces his mate GoldDust. She
bows and hands Shadowspun a bag made of her golden scales. 

Heartsong then jumps on GoldDust and heads off to meet the newest mage
Saraine. She offer a eternally dry towel and a special cloak that mkes one
invisible when it is worn. Then Apache Tear places an apache Tear in one
hand, while Ember places a red Tiger's eye in the other. Finally, the
Dragons each give some nail clippings to the newbie. "Welcome fellow
mage. I am Heartsong and these are my friends. The stones are for power,
the nail clippings work against elves and the cloak is to keep from
getting wet again. I could have used them when I was new. Anytime you need

already tell that it's going to be a LONG day. As I write this, it's not yet
even half past six in the a.m. YES, I've been to bed!!! Last night, the
first night this long weekend that I managed to get a hold of the computer,
it seems to have lost it's ability to connect with web servers around...the
moment I sat down, possibly before. It keeps freezing things in place when
I'm not even online, especially when I'm working with email.(Yes, it's
already done it this morning) and the only way to deal with this is to shut
the dang-blasted thingabobbin off!! It's so annoying!!! Verdammt! Mein Gott!

   Stupid computer......
   Also this morning I had to clean up a pile of caca on the carpet, let as
a thoughtful present from my 250lb. dog,Thomas. --_-- So, I can tell already
that it's gonna be one of those days...
   I didn't read any of the previous posts about horse training, cause at
the time I hadn't yet read Oathblood and didn't want to read any possible
spoilers, but now that I've read it, I must recommend it to all those who
haven't!!! Now all I need to find are Owlflight and BG, but I could probably
get those at the Library...the one in Moncton is bigger, ritzier, and safer
because the librarians never remember you. I'd like to look in the Riverview
library, since I can walk there from school no problem, but my friend's mom
works there, and I can't afford to get on her bad side.She runs the joint.
   As you've probably surmised, I'm not too good about bringing things back
on time...

it's any good? 'Cause I read a thing where Misty said that she'd just
written that because that's what was selling at the time. Should I read it?

Elsa and Potato are sneaking stealthly up behind Caliet when suddenly the
Sheepriders (brownies) gallop past in hot pursuit of a chocolate bunny. As
the go by, one of the sheep steps on Potato's tail and he yelps, alerting
the newbie to their presence. Elsa smiles and--patting the blubbering green
dragon--says:"Hi!! Welcome to the madness!! I see you've not been SPLOSHED,
but I hope you're not allergic to flowers or dragons or you might have a
very serious problem!!" She chuckles and winks."You've probably been told
most of the rules already, but I'll just remind you of one thing: no matter
how weird we're being, we're not going to hurt you!!" She laughs
melodically,then pulls a green balloon animal dragon from behind her back.
"Here!! Have fun, and I'll see you around!!"
  Elsa goes to consule her poor, wounded dragon Knight.

S&S Vol V, KEYS is the short story referred to here.  The place is called
Felwether, "a walled village; part and parcel of a manor-keep, a common
arrangement in these parts."   This story is not about a rivalry between
estates that births an assassin.  The killer of Myria's husband is her
husband's bastard half-brother and Seneschal, who has been embezzling
funds while he kept the books.  His intent was to place blame on Myria,
see her burned at the stake, become regent to her infant son, then off
the babe and assume the lordship of the keep.  He was not after Myria's
fortune alone.  Myria's family did not come to her rescue because she had
married by their design and they did not care enough about her to
intercede.  (The story does not identify how many brothers she has, it
only uses a plural, implying at least two.)  The exception was her
youngest brother, who loved her dearly, and foundered his horse trying to
reach her in time to rescue her.

had just regained consciousness.  After telling her story, she goes on to
explain why, though she had come to full wakefulness in the hands of
Elspeth's predecessor Kerowyn, she did not make this known because of the
protections on Valdemar.  

Need says ...
:What then?  I stayed quiet, of course!  The protections about your land
are formidable, horse.  Someone has changed the nature of the vrondi
there.  They--:

She has to clarify what the vrondi are to Elspeth and the others, as
they've no idea what Need is referring to.

Then Need says ...
:Someone, somehow, has changed the nature of the vrondi, and they are not
the same in your land.: the blade said peevishly.  :They look now, they
look for mage-energies.  When they see them, they gather about the mage,
and watch, and watch, and they do not stop watching unless they see that
the mage is also a Herald, and has one of your talking horses with him.: 
If a sword could have produced a snort, this one would have.  :So I kept
silent.  What else was I to do?  I did not wish to call attention to
myself.  That was when I drifted back to sleep again.:

The explanation for the change to the vrondi can be found in Chapter Five
of Winds of Fury.  Elspeth, Skip, their Companions and the Vale mages are
somehow mistakenly gated to the Forest of Sorrows and there encounter the
spirits of Vanyel, Stefen and Yfandes.  It can also be found in Magic's
Price, Ch. 4, when the Guardians and Vanyel tied the Heralds into the
Heartstone under Haven and invited the vrondi to feast forever on its
energy in exchange for the service that was asked of them.

Subcultures!  Fun things!  Heinlin...Heinlen...Heil-oh forget it you =
know who I mean- does create a wonderful subcultures in his book _A =
Stranger in a Strange Land_. Another person who does this well is Irvine =
Welsh in Trainspotting.  The junky subculture in Scotland that is =
portrayed in a highly surreal ( or at least that's how it seemed to me =
when I read it) way.  I liked the book and recomend it, but with the =
warning that it IS graphic and sometimes rather -upsetting to our =
delicate sensibilities.  I like his other books, except for the first =
stroy and a half of _Ecstacy_.  They were a little too graphic for me.  =
I still haven't read Malibue Stork Nightmeres yet, and am waiting =
impatiently for my friend to get it to me.
