Sound familiar? How about the Heartstone room, >that is 'hidden' in Winds? The one where Van MADE the Heartstone? How >about it? There is mention of this in the Winds book, and it is stated that there are two rooms in the palace that are made in this manner. One is actually directly above the other. The one Talia was in was one of the old student workrooms that was made to mimic the Heartstone room and confuse those who don't need to know about its existence. If I remember correctly, when Van "made" the Heartstone everything was fused into a solid pillar. Therefore Kris would have been unable to throw the table aside to prevent Talia from splitting her head open when she passed out if it had been the same. This was mentioned later in the Winds series when they clean out the old workrooms to train new mage students. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 15:08:10 -0600 From: Susan Read To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: 2 ObMistys and SMALL bit of fluff... There is a new collection of her short stories called Fiddler Fair (most aen't Velgarth stories), as well as the Sword of Ice anthology (all Velgarth), and has an anthology out called Lammas Night that has stories written by other authors as endings to a story beginning she wrote called Lammas Night. She co-wrote a book called Tiger Burning Bright with MZB and someone else (I don't have my books right now, so forgive me if I'm wrong about some of this), and I think she co-wrote a book called Sword of Knowledge (I am probably wrong about this one). I have heard about a new SERRAted Edge book that is yet to be published called Tempest Fugit (with guest appearances by the band "Tempest"), but I don't know anything about a new Diana Tregarde book. *Fluff* Seasong wakes up from her nap as she senses the creation of the garden. :What a great idea! Sound familiar? How about the Heartstone room, >that is 'hidden' in Winds? The one where Van MADE the Heartstone? How >about it? This is also the room used by An'desha, Karal, Natoli and Altra to scry out Tremane in SR. Just reread that part so I should be able to find the derned thing. "Directly above the Heartstone chamber is a room that mirrors it exactly, right down to having a crystal sphere in the center of a table. You could use that, and it's shielded to a fare-thee-well, We've used it for FarSeeing in the past."-Talia, SR, p289 "This chamber was identical to one directly above it that had been used for scrying for centuries."-SR, p203 A few disacrepancies about the scrying room: "...the marble table." SR, p298, but i AoQ, Kris shoves it out of the way? Also, AoQ, p307, "The table itself was surrounded by padded benches with backs to them.", but in SR, p290, "An'desha settled into his seat, now softened with a down cushion, brought by the ever-practical Natoli who could not see any reason why the four of them needed to get numb behinds from the hard benches..." If they were padded, would they be hard? Of course, the paddings *could* have worn out and not been replaced. ;) And on p204, Firesong notes the benches were curved. Nit-picky, aren't I? I'd gotten the impression from one of the books that the Tayledras hertasi had been traumatized or something at the end of the Mage Wars. Their "service" with the Tayledras was a way of protetion and at the same time a coexisting relationship. Does that make sense? As for the Tervardi, I've always thought of them like, well, chickens. You know, capable of gliding half-flights, but no more. If the Vrondi (cute little buggers, aren't they?) are attracted to magic, is the Goddess-born magic really any different? Hmm, it might be, since the Vrondi don't seem to mess with the Companions. Of course, we don't know if they do or don't mess with the Companions.
