Just my thoughts. - I disagree. If they were just lovebonded I doubt Kero would have had as many problems and "dreams" when she was trying to deny her love for him. Denying your love for someone is not devoted. She showed all the signs of a lifebond. As did Eldan (the stud). - Also, I do not think all Companions are reincarnated Heralds. I once had a reason for thinking that, but now I can't remember. I don't think Rolan, or any Monarch's Own Herald's Companion are reincarnated. I think I remember something about them being Goddess sent. Oh yeah! And Vanyel mentioned something about Gwena being new and not having any life experiences because she was Grove-born. Her answer was along the lines of "No, it's not a lifebond, but a very strong lovebond." (paraphrased, of course) Apparently, she wanted to write about a couple that were absolutely connected to each other through love and not through a "lifebond" which doesn't necessarily have to be manifested through love (though this is usually the case). Does someone have text-evi for this one? I looked around for it, but I couldn't find it. Councilors? I know this is one of those questions which has been discussed to many deaths (and then some). > - Also, I do not think all Companions are reincarnated Heralds. This does seem to be the case. Now the further question is: Are all non-grove-born Companions reincarnated souls? (This is another faq, I know). -Laire Answerer of done to death questions :) __________________________________________________________________________ | Kris Frye | "These are not the droids we are looking for." | | kfrye-+AT+-reed.edu | http://www.reed.edu/~kfrye | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 11:30:48 -0700 From: Adrienne Metz To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Kero's Lifebond Message-ID: <3.0.1.32.19980424113048.006c6334-+AT+-pop.u.arizona.edu> I want to say to Karen Baker and Ashandra and anyone else who feels like arguing with me about the reality of lifebonds: the only place lifebonds are presented are in Misty's _fictional_ works. We can argue til we turn blue in the face about whether lifebonds exist or not, but there is no correct answer. We'll each believe what we believe and we shouldn't get offended when someone disagrees with us. In my original letter I stated that while I used to think they were lifebonded, I no longer thought that. The above was stated by someone to refute my post. Dances will follow. We will be serving a > number of Kadeish dishes, including rice tronak." The Empress Mhairi of the House of Almey of the Ruby Throne, Empress of Keria, sighed dismally. "Please, your Radience, you ~must~ sit still!" "Why can't you call me Milady? Everyone ~else~ get's called Milady, so why can't I?" She made a face at herself in the dressing room mirror, squinting her deep blue eyes into little slits and sticking her tounge out. The maid squeeled like a pig. "Your Radience!!" "Oh be quiet." The maid blushed, and the Empress squirmed again in the padded chair, causing the gossamer ruby wool of her Court dress to rustle. "I really dislike Court banquets. You smile till your face gets stuck that way, and a bazillion people faun over your hand, not to mention drool." "Your Radience!! You ~can't~ mean that!?" Mhairi rolled her eyes and tried not to rub them. "Oh yes I do. You sit and smile and your rear goes numb and you smile some more and pretend to laugh at the new ambassador's pathetic jokes and hope that he dosen't make too much of a fool of himself and therefore embarass you too. The last one sure did. Whats-his-name always does. Hopefully he won't ask me to marry that Gedric guy." "Gedric is the ~King~!! And if you did," the maid stopped brushing out Mhairi's hair for a minuit and thoughtfully met her eyes in the mirror, "You would secure a ~very~ nice alliance for the Kerians." "Then you marry him." "Your Radience!" The maid - *Lana. Gotta remember that. Lana, Lana, Lana.* giggled and rounded her plump shoulders. "Well then! If you won't then why should I? And besides, it ~pains~ me to admit it, but if an alliance is needed, Prince-heir Endore or Prince Landin of the Ellirian Isles would be a little better. Keep them from invading us for another week or so." Lana laughed again, although this time she seemed a little bit nervous. "Oh your Radience. They sent Elt-Ambassador Eltes over to you, so why would they want to invade?" Mhairi caught her own eye in the mirror and tried to stare herself down. It didn't work. "Why would they indeed? That's a very good question." "There! All done!" Lana stepped back and admired the job that she had done on the Empress' hair. It was casually arranged into a tumble of curls and braids with tiny rubies strung all through, and only a simple circlet of gold set with another ruby and two opals to show her rank. "Which of your jewels would you like, your Radience?" "Call me Milady. And... mmm... my Family Crest, I think, and the ruby earrings that were my Grandmother's." "Yes, your... Milady." Lana curtsied and went off into the next room to find the firebird brooch and tiny earrings designed especially for pointed ears. *And no more 'your Radiences' hopefully until tonight. I think that I need to break away from century old tradition and make up a new title.* Empresss Mhairi Almey of the Ruby Throne ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 19:44:40 PDT From: "Joey & Josetta Persinger" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Kero's Lifebond and reincarated companions Message-ID: <19980425024441.19000.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> >Adreinne wrote: >>I think Misty uses Lifebonds (which only seem to be in Heralds, anyway) because Heralds aren't notorious for staying with one person always.Having a lifebond _makes_ them stay together because they can't part. I agree with Karen. Lifebonds do exist in this world. Misty seems to use reference to real world phenomena in her book and so why could this not be true too. There is much that is still unknown about the human psychi, but in almost every culture and religion there has been some referene to such things as reicarnation. I know one might ask what that has to do with the discussion. Well, it was Aristotle that proposed the lost half we search for each lifetime. this has a touch of what the lifebonds represent and reicarnation. so who is to say this is not true. Aristotle and his group came up with much of modern science and math's foundations. So what is to say that they are not right about this too. Another thing, how can you say if what someone says is right or wrong unless you walk a mile in their shoes?
