I would like to see an ordinary person get "caught up" in extraordinary circumstances. Talia started out that way but then she went and became a herald and Queen's Own. Maybe an apprentice carpenter overhears something while working on cabinets in the palace. Perhaps a plot to assasinate the queen. I'll stop there since I don't want to be writing fanfic in Misty's world. Bring out the mundanes!!!! John E. Some of us are very frustrated by people that have been here for a while yet they haven't followed instructions in the newbiefest. There have been numerous one-liners and braids have been few and far between. They have been asked nicely to cooperate and seemingly ignored the request. (sung to cheerful, upbeat music) This is the thread that never ends yes it goes on and on my friend; some people started posting it not knowing what it was and they'll continue posting it forever just because, this is the thread that never ends... I really don't mind if you want to discuss the movie thread again. It's just that I've been here for at least five cycles of movie discussions. We've discussed everything from anime to a miniseries on T. V. but feel free to discuss it again. Maybe you'll think of something that hasn't been "done to death". An obmisty...hmm...okay! I would like to know a great deal more about the Shin'ain. What is their day to day life like? What happens in a normal clan? I would also like to see a story about another Swordsworn. Maybe the story of one of Tarma's "spirit teachers". Oh, yeah. What happens to Kethry and Tarma after Kero leaves? Do they move to the plains, or stay at the tower? Any guesses? * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I thought it was a good interpretation of Arthur, mainly because it showed the characters as humans instead of perfect plastic cutouts with no flaws or problems. That is actually the reason I like Misty, because she shows that even in fantasy no one is perfect, and it isn't always happy ever after. Admittedly, it was a typical major network production, Merlin spent his time mooning over Nimue and yelling portents at everyone else, and Morgan was incredably silly, but still despite its flaws it was a great show. Of course, my in my favorite version of the tale, Merlin's a smith, Mordred's a good guy, Gawain's a bad guy, Morgan is just a fairly normal person caught up it the life of her brother, and Lancalot is gay. But it shows how they really might have been.(Courtway Jones if anyone wants to read it) Well that's my rant. See ya next time I'm in the dungeon. -- Kat;-) Surianna Kylara(faithful Hedgehog) I am all that I claim to be, I simply have not claimed all that I am - Kethry ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 23:52:03 EDT From: LCM46 To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: ordinary folks/politeness/movie/Shin'ain Message-ID: <9864b6cc.3546a3e4-+AT+-aol.com> In a message dated 98-04-28 19:23:21 EDT, you (Shadow Wolf) write: > Some of us are very frustrated by people that have been here > for a while yet they haven't followed instructions in the newbiefest. > There have been numerous one-liners and braids have been few and far > between. My 'bitch' is about the parties that copy a whole letter and respond with one-liners---talk about wasting someone's time/money--extremely rude. Speaking as a member of this list for almost 2 years, and mostly a lurker at that, I recall reading and remembering the 'rules', and remembering the newer additions to the rule list, too. I have no objection to some fluff per posting, if that's what makes the poster happy, but not lines and lines of it. Some of the sigs are getting a bit long, too. Let's be respectful of others and their online situations---not everyone has free/cheap e-mail. Mea culpa for omission of obmisty--brain temporarily out of order--too busy with family/life in general. (Am currently 'trying' to read Owlflight, but 'they' won't leave me alone.) I much prefer the Merlin who knows that he is doomed to fall in love with the woman/faerie creature who will destroy him, but does nothing to stop it. > I too was disappointed with the story line. There were too many discreppencies in the traditional King Arthur theme. Don't get me wrong, the movie was very well done. I loved the special effects, and the characters and acting was supurb, in all it was very entertaining. But they claimed it would be the "Wizard of Oz" of this generation. Well then they should have told the story more correctly. Who was this Queen Mab, and Frik? I never heard of them in any of the King Arthur stories I have read, and they played the main villans. The main villan is supposed to be Morgan Le Fey, and her part in King Arthurs downfall was downplayed. But John, I disagree with you on one point. I found the relationship between Merlin and Nimue more believable than the traditional story. I never could understand how Merlin, being an intelligent man, could have fallen for Nimue's seduction. This story I could believe. But did you all see how they depicted GRYPHONS? I was HORRIFIED! My husband already told me to quit spoiling the movie for him by pointing out all the flaws. Then I went into a detailed explanation of how Misty depicts Gryphons, and he came back with what he has heard Gryphons were like. And I said "but that's not how they really were." I guess I should tell you all: My name is Skywynd, and I'm a Mistyoholic. I can't seem to accept any other version of Gryphons, Heralds, or Companions. Anyway, I kept saying how the King Arthur story wasn't detailed correctly, and my husband kept reminding me that this is a story of Merlin, not King Arthur. The only thing that saved this story, in my opinion, was at the end, when Frik says "But that's not how I remember it". That states that it didn't necessesarily happen that way.
