I was just rereading MPawn, for about the billionth time, and something occured to me. When Tylendel is waking Van up from the nightmare, before they're lovers, why is Van having a Foresight dream? Didn't Lendel (or Savil, whoever)wake up Van's Gifts with the Gate energy? Any answers? I think that the main reason Firesong was surprised was because they normally use natural formations that go down to the bedrock to make heartstones and Vanyel fused several different pieces of stone together to make the heartstone (it also is a testament to Vanyels power that he could do without the natural rock). Tech-wise, I think that so far the engineers are trying to find the least invasive ways to do things before they even start a project. When something is found to cause adverse effects and reduce quality, they go back to a previous model or start over. I think that something similar to the telephone has already been invented - the farseer box they found in Urtho's tower. The box only needed one gifted to work and otherwise required no magic to operate. I agree that technology is going to progress slower (thank god!) and that it will be liberally mixed with magic. now the non-misty, Susan Cooper - it's great to find others who have read her! I first found her books in the school library and have been searching for my own copies ever since. Two other "young-adult" authors that I really like are Shirley Rosseau-Murphy and Tamora Pierce. Mary Stewart - As far as I know, she is one of the "classic" Arthurian writers and may have been the first? to write from Merlin's viewpoint. I really loved the Crystal Cave (it was one of my first Arthuriana's). Someone asked who wrote the Prince of the Sidhe books - the author is Josepha Sherman, and so far there are two of them (they take forever to come out). Tom Deitz - another of my fav's!!! Has anyone read his other books? He wrote a series on a family of "guardians" based in Georgia and two futuristic books (the first one was Above the Lower Sky) about dolphins, orcas, and selkies. That's about all, sorry for the really long post. I would like to close with a little fluff. ***Fluff zone*** Seasong materializes out of the mist next to Shadowfire "Lady bless, and welcome to the list. I would like to gift you with this unicorn amulet (there is a flash of purple light and an amethyst shaped like a unicorn head appears in Shadowfire's hand). It will provide protection against seawater - only once mind you - and bears the blessing of the goddess of unicorns always." After having her say, she bows and dissapears back into the mist in a swish of amethyst and silver. ***End of Fluff zone*** Cotten candy sheep to all and a happy mother's day to any mother's on the list (special heart shaped chocolates to them). Two that I can think of are: 1.He had a very minamal gift, or 2.the gods made it happen. I think that 2 might be a good posibility because if he had not had those dreams then 'lendel would not have been in his room that night, and Van might not have told 'lendel that he loved him otherwise. How about this one: Taking the square roots of the perfect squares gives 4 and 1, and 4 plus 1 is 5. There are 2 perfect squares, so we double this, giving 10. The two primes added together total 32. Adding 32 and 10 gives 42. Its great to know that y'all are reading Misty at such young ages (15 1/2 and 12)!! I didn't start reading fantasy of any kind until I was 14, and Misty until I was 16 (that was right about the time AoQ came out). I have been reading since I was about 3, and before I discovered fantasy and sci-fi, I read alot of mystery and young adult books. I can relate to those of you who were always ahead of your class in reading :-) When I was in fourth grade I was reading at a eigth or ninth grade level (I think), and found classwork to be pretty boring at times. Anyway, to end my babble, Melanie, textevd is when you are talking about something from a book and put in a quote with the book and page defined. i.e. p.119-120 in MPawn where Vanyel shows 'Lendel just how much he cares. At least some of us will think we can never love one person the way we love the "one true bond". Which brings up a lot of questions and discussions about love :) If you can love one way, why not bond same way? It sounds alot harsher to be one way "lifebond" though I must admit. To another matter, I haven't read any of the Serrated books, nor heard of them. I read anything I can get my hands on though so I'll be chasing those books down at my local Hastings. So to my big question, is there anything like a RP email circle with Lackey inspiration? If so, can someone let me know? Please?:) I think that's it.. Lifebonds are supposidly 'two halves of a whole coming together', and since you can't have a half that matches while the other dosen't (I may be illogical, but I'm not THAT illogical!) it would appear to be impossible. I dont want to offend your friends, but maybe they are over-exadurating what they feel. I'm am not quite sure (mayhap I'm going...er, gone crazy) but I got the idea that Leareth AKA Ma'ar AKA Falconsbane was sending him the dreams, but now that I think of it, Leareth had no way of knowing that Vanyel was going to become a mage. Actually, if I recall, Van's dreams before Lendel died consisted only of the 'ice fields' and not the confrontation between himself and Leareth. I must agree. Regardless of the fact that Vanyel's shaych (and a tad bit fictional) I wouldn't kick him outta bed for anything. By the way, isn't that the main point of having a room...to grab some books and disappear from the face of the planet. Actually, I prefer taking a Misty book (or two or three or four) and going off into my own little fantasy world. *LOL* ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1584 **********************************
