The hawkbrothers do bond to crows of Corvines(I think thats how its spelled). I hate it when someting happens to one of my books, but to be tourtued with the death of one of my books is untinkable.(Plays death march) Vanisa ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 21:29:03 -0500 From: DragonFriend-+AT+-webtv.net To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Movie & Favorites Message-ID: <199805150229.TAA13130-+AT+-mailtod-101.iap.bryant.webtv.net> Melaine Anne McCaffrey, shes been my favorite since ten. Sorry if I had found Misty's books first then she would be my absolute fav., but when you open and read your first good sci-fi book, the author of that book will always b your favorite. That does not mean that I don't like Misty's a whole lot. Sorry everyone I asked what your favorites are but did not tell you mine. Favorie human: Van (ofcourse) Favorite non-human: Ke'chara(the little miborn from the gryphon books) Favorite book: MPrice Favorite scean: MPrice 131-134 where Stef finnally corners Van Favorite song: Dark and Stormy Night from Arrows Fall Suger-Free sheep for everyone Vanisa ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 23:57:29 -0400 From: "Jen Wrenn" To: Subject: Just wanted to say heyla =) Message-ID: <005401bd7fb5$9685c840$0401a8c0-+AT+-brat> Heyla listsibs! :) Just wanted to let everyone know that I am formally joining the newbie ranks, though I've been lurking for a while! *waits for all the applause and cheers to die down* As to who *I* is, er, am, my mundane name is Jen, though I would like to refer to myself as Snowcat if the name is not already taken. Umm....what is there to say.. I'm a college kid, so I'm just now getting over the withdrawal symptoms that come from not having my Misty books for an entire year. *sob* My plan right now is to take all of them back with me in the fall. *evil laugh* if only my roommate knew! *grin* I've been reading Misty since I was..gee...how old *was* I? Seems like I've known Velgarth forever.. Hmm..I think I found Winds of Fate when I was 14 or so, so I've only been reading them for 5 years. My how the time passes. *grin* But I've read all of the Velgarth books except Owlflight, all of the Bardic Voices/Choices except the new one (Fiddler's Faire?), and some of the other..Bard's Tale, I believe they're called. Haven't been able to get my hands on the Tregarde (?) series, though. *sigh* Anyways, I think that's enough of my babbling. If anyone's interested, my favorite Velgarth character is (no, *NOT* Van, surprise surprise!) one of three: Karal, Kerowyn, and Altra. Though I love Talia, Darkwind, Stefan, Van *sigh*, and everyone else too, of course. My favorite book is (no surprise, given my favorite chars, I would think) Storm Warning. My favorite scene is..I don't know that I can tell my favorite scene without spoiler space..the entire Storm series is in paperback.. well, no harm in doing a spoiler space even if it's not needed, I suppose so: * * * * S P O I L E R * * * * Whew! Okay, my favorite scene is the scene in Storm Breaking when Karal communes with Vkandis to find out if Altra can bring Van and Co. from the Forest of Sorrows to the Tower. Though a close second to that one is the scene where Ulrich dies in Storm...Warning, I think? No, must have been Rising.. yeah, it was in Rising. Anyways..I love that scene because it almost always makes me cry. Even 'Lendel's death scene doesn't do that to me. I'm not sure why, but Ulrich's death was so...unnecessary, and yet, so necessary to making Karal who he was.. And he was a wonderful man, the kind of Priest I would like to know, who might even be able to lead me to some sort of Faith.. Okay, enough of my opinions. *grin* I think I'm one of the rare Misty fans who doesn't just absolutely adore Van. I like him a lot, but he's not my favorite. I'm also one of the few, that I know at least, who like some of Misty's later books more than her earlier ones. For example, I LOVE the Mage Storms trilogy and Fire Rose, some of her later works. Is there anyone else out there who agrees with me? I think the mixing of science and magic in Mage Storms (and Fire Rose, for that matter) is intriguing(okay, so I'm a math major and biased in that direction..what can I say? *purrr*), and I hope Misty follows that line for a while (however, I don't want her books to be like the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey..it starts out as fantasy and ends up sci-fi). I haven't read Owlflight, so I don't know what happens in that. >From the previews I read it didn't seem that it was much related to the rest of Velgarth that we've seen a lot of. But then, that was just the first chapter, so who knows? =) Wow, I said I was going to stop opining.. So now I'll truly be quiet and leave you all in peace (I hope). Van's a great character but I just don't like him as much as some of the later heralds. Also, I admit that Anne McCaffrey is my favorite author but Misty is a VERY close second. Andre Norton, Terry Brooks and Tolkein also rank up there on my list of fav authors. I was very distressed to find a message in my mailbox the other day from a certain listsib who shall remain nameless who ONLY typed a subject line. No message, not even fluff. *Please* I get enough mail as it is without getting sent only a message line. Thanks to the person who sent out sugar-free sheep! I wish large amounts of sugar-free chocolate and strawberry sheep to everyone :) ~Aramina~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 May 1998 19:43:59 -0500 From: Cliff Keller To: "'Misty Mailing List'" Subject: Braid:Focus stones, lifebond, Robin Hobb, fluff Message-ID: <01BD8039.E77D9460-+AT+-cjak-0003> Heyla sibs! Its been so quiet. So here I come to make some noise. I am sad to see some of the sibs leaving for the summer. Bye to those of you who are leaving. ********************************** I was looking through some of my Misty books the other day and come across something I wanted to ask you all. I realize that having a mobile heartstone would be kind of tough to drag around, but in Vanyel's time they used stones that were particular to their magic for focus stones to help focus their energy so they didn't have to use raw node power. Does anyone know if they used this during Elspeth and Firesong's time? ********************************** I also think that a one way lifebond isn't possible. You can't be a part of some ones soul if they don't want you there. Sounds more like infatuation to me. ********************************** This is called braiding for the newbies. ********************************** Ah there are more Robin Hobb Fans!!! I am definitely a Farseer! Read all three and thought they were great. Never would have guessed the ending. Kind of the same as what happened in Melaine Rawn's Dragon Star Trilogy. An Evil tribe tries to take over to right an ancient wrong theme. Willing to discuss with anyone if they want. ************************************ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Fluff^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Cailet looks around and waves good bye to all the sibs leaving the Hall. In the corner she spies a group of newbies she hasn't met before. "Heyla everyone welcome to the Hall! There are so many things to enjoy here. Usually you will find me in my garden if you need something. We have many lively discussions and once in a while we get a little carried away. But Misty unites us." Little Shimmer hands Cailet a small bag and says :Don't forget the gifts.: "I have brought you all a small token of my friend ship and hope I haven't forgotten anyone. For Melaine, a small silver dragon statue with amethyst for eyes, he will help protect you by getting warm when brownies are near by. For Vanisa, cotton candy sheep and a sapphire pendant that has the magical ability to make you invisible. For Shana Stormsong, a black velvet cloak that will keep you dry when the sea water gets thrown around. For Heather, a circlet for your head made of ever lasting flowers that have healing powers. And last but not least Snowcat, I give you one of my kittens (I have eleven) as a bond mate, she will get larger than a house cat about knee height. I know not if she has a name but she is long haired and white with green eyes." "I hope you all enjoyed your gifts, for I enjoy the giving" ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^End^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Sorry that was so long sibs. There was just too many newbies!!!!!
