I have to admit, the first time I got Black Gryphon out of my library I read the first few pages and took it back. It was boring. That was about four months ago. I just read the trilogy, and I loved it, though I would like another book about Tad and Blade. For another thing, I got out all three Storm books and I skipped through the whole thing and only read the parts with either Elspeth or Darkwind(OK, I'd just read the Winds and I was totally obsessed with the both of them from the first book on). I completely agree with you! Actually, the point I was muddling my way to was that people who are "classically" good-looking don't have to work as hard at developing personality or charisma in order to attract friends and other types of relationships. People who are more normal looking are forced to develop charisma and personality in order to attract other people. That's my theory, anyway. :) Certainly, you could argue that some people are born with more charisma than others (like beauty), but I think charisma is also developed as the person matures (like personality). [Well, okay.. some people believe that personality is a genetic thing, but you know what I mean.] Disclaimer: yes, yes.. I know this is a gross generalization. ----- Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 21:31:32 +0100 (BST) From: Shadow Wolf > I absolutely believe that women should have equal opportunities, pay, > etc. If you define feminist as being in favor of equality for women, > then I am a feminist. Well, as I mentioned in my previous post, I completely agree that women should not be put down for choosing to stay at home. However, I must mention that it is extremely important that it is a _choice_. I don't agree with the notion that in order to be a good mother, a woman must give up her career and stay at home with the kids. I, for one, could never do that and be a good mother.. I'd probably go postal and end up shooting everyone. Hmmm... except I hate guns.. there's a problem :) My boyfriend has said that if we ever have kids, he'd stay at home and telecommute. But not me, nosiree! I don't consider NOW to be terribly radical. (SCUM: society for cutting up men. Now that's radical!) However, I think it's important that radical ideas and organizations are out there. If nothing else, left and right wing radicals serve to tip the balance somewhere in the middle. ----- Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 22:13:31 +0100 (BST) From: dprono-+AT+-planet.eon.net > I have to agree here - I absolutly LOVED Fire Rose. > The only thing I DIDN'T like was the very end where they were thinking > of going to Africa or someplace where Jason wouldn't be stared at. I suppose that would depend on what you define as "feminist characters." I'd say that Tarma is about as kick-a** as you get (excuse my language, please). So the question is...Why > the difference, or was I just up way too late last night? I seem to recall something from Talia's training classes that implied that any newly-Chosen could decline being a Herald and give up their Companion (though this happened rarely, if at all.. Companions choose right). Maybe Yfandes had to have a different sort of bond as a result of Vanyel's unusual predicament? Or, more likely, Misty changed her mind since writing Arrows?
