I've heard via the net, that misty's had 'some' problems with some paganists over the diane tregarde series. Since I am (a little bit) into al that stuff, I can't help wondering: Why in god's name (any one, just pick one you like) ? As I interpretate her stories, as in all of them, she is only propaganding paganism, if anything! I'd like to mention another thing about paganism: several fractions are of the firm belief of: THERE IS NO ONE TRUE WAY!! This is mentioned in several importand books, for example, here are a few quotes from _a_ book of shadows whoch I own, which are worth sharing with everybody: WORDS TO THE WISE: So love the Goddess and God, and HARM NONE! THE NATURE OF OUR WAY: Honor all living things, for we are of the bird, the fish, the bee. Destroy not life, save it to be to preserve your own. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 15:14:21 PDT From: "Katie McQuage" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: the Screwtape Letters Message-ID: <19980713221422.7611.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Bright the Day list sibs! >Aaaahhh, have you read the Screwtape Papers?? If you’re talking about her being referred to as Elizabeth at one time, yes it was a typo. If you didn’t know, in Bedlam Boys, she explained why her name was Elizabet and not Elizabeth. That was also a typo…on her birth certificate. Rebecca Slaughter wrote: >Maybe I missed it but does Firesong's firebird ever set anything on >fire when she is upset? Yes, she (is Aya a she?) did. In SRising (or SBreaking), Firesong lost his temper thinking about the fact that "Karal was influencing An’desha to ignore Firesong" (not textevd, just what I got out of the train of his thoughts). Aya began to get upset and started something (don’t remember what) on fire, which turned Firesong’s anger on her, which upset her even more. That was also when they found out that just as the Healing Adepts were ‘connected to the land’, they were also suffering from the ill effects the Mage Storms were causing to the land. The problem is a few people who lost touch with reality that believed that she was actually Di. Similiar to the people who believe that the X-files are the truth. She was acted at Dragoncon by such a person and her part of the story appears on the Firebird arts website (Straw that broke the camels back). This would also explain the paranoia she has on any role-playing being conducted in her world. As for her stories propaganding paganism, I see your point but it is still as much fiction as the X-files (in my interpretation). Every story needs foundations and if such touches make the story more realistic (if that is the point) and enjoyable then so be it. I just finished reading the Di series and thought the background was beautiful and well researched but does not lend me to believe in Vampires, Guardians, and big powerfull Dieties looking for blood. An author can not be responsible if some people misinterprate thier works for thier are as many viewpoints as thier are people in the world. So for rambling but as both a pagan and a gamer IMHO both the people who think her books are reality and the hostility towards role-playing are just extreme reactions to each other. (A >beautiful white, blue eyed, intelligent looking horse just walked >into your living room. What do you do?) Assuming you could come home >for the occasional holiday visit. Were the above scenario to actually happen, I would choose to be a Herald, no questions asked. I would actually prefer being Chosen to being lifebonded with someone. Both bonds were described by Misty in her books (if I recall) to be somewhat similar, and I feel that being Chosen would be much easier on my state of mind. Jean said: alas, I am at my father's house, and have no friends down here, so that may account for my boredom!! oh, I _miss_ school. (but, if you can, don't tell any teachers that!! I'm the only child I know that wants it back!!!!) I can sympathize with you. I fear my entire social life is centered around school. The only good thing about being out of school (aside from dealing with the occasional "evil" teacher) is not having to worry about assignments getting done on time and of course, tests. Well, that's all for now. ::grimaces:: Please forgive me for not putting any obMisty into this. But to summarize: Some idiots have taken the Tregard series as some sort of reality code. She gets grief for not writing more, for not presenting what these goofs think of as "correct" pagan ideas, rituals etc, and even more from some real looneys who think *they* are or should be Guardians. Some of these nuts have been or have threatened to be violent. FWIW j _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
