I know, that's a pathetic and trite excuse. I'm just so darned good at procrastinating! Sorry, sorry, sorry! To Cailet Flameflower: Thank you ever so much for the beautiful cloak you gave me! And about the Ring: ::bows even more humbly to everybody else:: I'm so sorry for keeping the ring in my possession for so long! In the meantime, continue to enjoy yourself, as you probably have been for the past month or so. Again, my sincerest apologies for the long wait. Um.... obMisty... Oh, I went to the library book sale last Thursday, and I finally managed to pick up my own copies of MPawn and MPrice! I'm so happy now! Funny, since in RL you'll know several paople by any given common name (Steven, John, Katherine, Jennifer) but in Velgarth you don't see that. Rhiannon wrote: i have not read dnything with Diana Tregarde yet. Is it one book or a series? What is it about? I've heard tons of people raving about her, but I've never gotten around to reading it. Also the same kind of thing with the SERRAted Edge books. Are they any good? And what book should I start with? Personally, I absolutely *adore* the Di Tregarde books--They are about this tiny dancer-looking woman who happens to have immense Magickal powers from being a Witch. (would that it worked all the way that Misty paints it!) She's also a Guardian and has to help those who ask her to help them (esp. with big bad scary Magickal thingies). Baisicly they are mysteries with occult flavoring. Lots of fun, well written and well thought out! SERRAted Edge is similar, except that you're dealing with humans, elves and various and sundry scarry thingies from the Old World (like boggles, trolls and Bane Sidhe (banshee)), not to mention race cars! (something I know more about than I really want to, living in the SE US and abt 20 min. from Charlotte Motor Speedway where that car movie with Tom Cruise was filmed). I would start with Born to Run--I think it's the first one she wrote, and in my opinion the best! I also like the Bedlam's Bard series, which I saw collected into one volume (paperback) Under that name. Separately they are _Knight of Ghosts and Shadows_ and _Summoned to Tourney_. OK, for other books that I've read that *aren't* Misty, but still very good (and just out in HC, sorry) are _The Runelords_ by David Farland and _Juniper, Gentian and Rosemary_ by I don't remember who because I can't find it at the moment! Runelords is based in a completely different fantasy world where people can recieve "endowments" of sight, hearing, smell, grace, stamina, metabolism, etc. from others, leaving the "dedicates" (those who give the endowments) without those things. This allows certain people (rich, powerful) to be *more* than human. This is the backdrop of a story that is a classic good vs evil, journey of maturation, boy meets girl, etc, but it is beautifully told and the characters are wonderful! I can't even begin to describe J,G, and R, so I won't!!! Sorry for such a long post--btw--what do you all make of the comment by Tarma's teacher in the first story in Oathblood along the lines of "many another Sworn One without a clan has sold her sword," ??? Does this mean that the Shin'a'in *regularly* loose entire clans, or what??? I'd imagine not. Or, maybe, as this was Misty's first Tarma and Kethry story, that she didn't quite think that far ahead??? Anyway--Wind to thy Wings and Chocolate Covered Cherry Sheep to thems as wants! I assumed that it was more a matter of Swordsworn not really being part of a Clan -- having to be loyal to the Star-Eyed and the entire Shin'a'in people first and foremost. Or that some were called to work outside the Plains. But maybe whole clans do get wiped out every couple years, who knows.
