Then she drinks the argonel Agree -- the bit of her breaking the arrows, and patterning the fletching, is heart-wrenching. Although, actually, there are three scenes here that "get" me the most -- the two already mentioned, and the arrival of Rolan, riderless, exhausted, at the camp with the arrows. There's something very visceral and despairing about it, but not so much that it's cloying. > > Amy said: > > I have to say that Savil was also at fault for Lendel's actions after > his brothers death. She couldn't have realized the extents to which he would go, and the extents to which Van would help him. Using Vanyel to handle the spell book that gave the secrets for Gating and summoning wyrsa couldn't have been foreseen, and neither could 'Lendel's using Van's potential to work the spells. Savil can't be expected to act like the mother of a toddler here, removing everything that could be potentially harmful because he doesn't have the sense not to get into it. > I wonder how long someone sensitive to cold iron could sit in a > Mercedes? Oh, lord. Not long at all. The things are mostly steel -- very little of anything else in them. (Anecdote: my stepmother drives an '82 Mercedes, because it was cheap, reliable, and safe. How safe? Well, one time traffic was backed up on the highway. She stopped, the car behind her stopped, but the van behind it didn't stop. Not mini-van; full-sized van. It rolled over the car behind her, became airborn, and landed on my stepmother's car. She walked away uninjured and all the doors would still open and close. And she still drives that car. Anything with _that_ much Cold Iron in it would probably be painful even to someone like Keighvin who had a high tolerance for it.) Admittedly, that bit would have packed a bit more punch if Darkwind had actually died, but then I'd probably have thrown the book across the room. I wanted to know if there is an organization here for people like myself who admire Foxtrot X-ray. If not, could I start one? He's my favorite character from SERRAted Edge & I think he deserves his own fanclub. Also, I'm going to be gone the 28th thru the 6th; we're driving to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the EAA Fly-in. Any other listsibs going to be there? I may not be able to respond till I get back if you answer my questions later than tomorrow, but I will read all my email when I get back *shudders at the thought...her mail box will be swamped...* Zhai'helleva, Taquera Lady In Green ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 11:31:12 -0700 From: "Marv Watson" To: Subject: Re: Talia/Savil/Mercedes-Benz Message-ID: <007101bdb98c$bc521d60$e08030cc-+AT+-default> Hi Hi Hi Hi Hi!!!!! Sorry I've been away, I joined another list and was suddenly swamped with e-mail. On the subject of heartbreaking scenes....... I agree (sorry I deleted most of the ones I wanted to answer to...bad delete finger, bad!) that Kris's death is one of the sadest in the books, but it's when Seleny recieves the broken arrows is what gets me the most. (small fluff) *************** >From under a pile of woks, frying pans, and masses of food a head appears. She is slightly dissheveled and didn't seem to notice that there were bell pepper slices in her hair. She would have tried to emerge from the pile of food if Misha hadn't intervined. *Dear, you have food in your hair* Misha gives Skywolf that reproachful look. Skywolf glares back and hurriedly picks the pieces out. With a thought, the food pile decreases and becomes neat and orderly. The stove turned off and plate upon plate of spicy food is set out to eat. "Sorry it took so long, but you see there's this black hole that sometimes suddenly appears and drags me back to RLLL..oh <****>(pick your swear word)" Skywolf tries to finish her sentence as the beforemention blackhole appeared underneath her and sucked her down into RL. Misha gives a concerned whine, but knows that her friend will make it back soon enough. ************* Enjoy the food! I just got back from a vacation of extremes--it was awesome at parts, and really sucked at other parts. I discovered that I get hysterical when I am more than 10 feet above the ground (I've lived on a very flat island all my life, ok?) so I don't think I'll be going back to the Rockies anytime soon..... So naturally I have over 100 messages when I get home. Going through them is putting me in a very good mood, especially compared to the mood I was in yesterday. I won't attribute remarks or anything because its hard to keep all of it straight, with all the messages I have. Forgive me! About my "Rhianno Shadowsong" thing...it has nothing to do with usenames, surprisingly. I had the nickname Rhiannon thanks to the Fleetwood Mac song and the mythology surrounding it, and I chose Shadowsong for an entirely different purpose. I swear! The Pern books are best read in the order that they were written...most series are. Probably because its easier to follow the train of thought that the author had. And also because you don't get at all confused chronologically. Even if its out of order, you know everything you need to know if the author wrote it first. About Kalistia's books- Yes, I've read all of them (well, I haven't finishd the Lawheads yet). I recommend them all, some more highly than others. Matter of fact, I seem to recall taking Kalistia to the book store.. Owlsight is a sequel to Owlflight. I can't wait...I've been wanting to know "what happened after" for a long time now. Wind to thy Wings, Rhiannon Shadowsong (I swear! Its a real nickname, not a usename!!!!!) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 16:18:00 -0700 From: geis To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: SASKI Message-ID: <35BD0AA8.6A34-+AT+-virtual-cafe.com> All right. I would like to announce that I have started a club for admirers of FX, or Foxtrot X-ray! I'm calling it SASKI, or Society for the Appreciation of the [most] Kitsune Imaginable! I'm trying to decide what adjective to use for the second 's' (savvy? slick? swashbuckling?) Your input is greatly desired! I realize this probably isn't the best time to start a club since I'm leaving tomorrow & won't be at a computer until August 7th, but go ahead and email me or the list if you want to be in the club & I WILL get back to everyone! Hope to hear from you guys soon!
