I relate to Altara. So many people depend on him to be more than he thinks he is. And he takes it so hard when he "fails". She has the most incredible voice. My favorite song by her is "Mystic Stream," the one that sounds like monks singing at the beginning. Also wanted to say "Hello!" to everyone, because I haven't posted here in ages. I'm seriously thinking of unsubbing, because I don't have time to read all the mail. ::sigh:: See you all later in Lurkdom! About Loreena McKennit, I love her. I'm about the only one around in my town who likes her. Or that I know about. > and i was wodering, what misty character do you most relate to? i was > > arguing with myself on the subject, and i thought i'd ask you guys... I think I find that the character I relate to most is Talia, because I'm shy, uncertian of myself and love books and knowledge. I was wondering if anyone knew of a store where you can get any of the music from the books. Message-ID: <01bdbdd9$a7a80040$0100007f-+AT+-heraldtg> *Shadowblade jumps up on a stage in the middle of the Hall. Grabbing a mike, she winces as some feedback occurs, but quickly moves out of range of the speakers. Clearing her throat loudly, she begins.* Heyla folks! Over the past month of July, you guys have been mailing me your votes on categories like favourite characters, scenes, filk, series, etc. Well, today's the day I get to announce the results! *clap clap* yay! ;) So without any further ado, here're the winners! *The lights dim. Even the mages among the audience sense the sudden gravity and they summon away their mage-lights* For the category of "Favourite Human Male", it really is no surprise... Once again, Vanyel Ashkevron has snagged the title by a huuuge margin! Unfortunately, he is unable to be with us today. Rumour is that he is enjoying a long vacation in the Bermudas. *grin* (are those groans of "boy, is she corny" or of disappointment i hear?) For the category of "Favourite Human Female", phew, was this a close fight. But, we don't have a tie! Welcome Kerowyn, Herald-Captain of the Sunbolts as the newest holder of this post! (hmm... there's some murmuring in the "Heralds" section of the audience... I wonder why... *weg*) For the category of "Favourite Non-Human Male", again, a Very Close fight. Even closer than that of "Human Female"! But you guys _have_ chosen. Skandranon Rashkae successfully stolen his title from Altra as "Favourite Non-Human Male", and can, once again, gloat! Hehehe... (cat-calls!) For the category of "Favourite Non-Human Female", we see a pattern. You people seem to enjoy female warriors (hmm Xena Strikes Back? *g*). Need- sword, healer and fighter- has once again taken the Award! Unfortunately, Need has disappeared with Vanyel Ashkevron. No, I don't think there's anything between them. *weg* (more groans of pain. "Stop with the corniness already!"-- shout from audience.) For the category of "Favourite Supporting Male", boy, I don't think Alberich will be pleased, but this year's winner is out of the fearsome Arms-master's reach! Stefen, known as The Bard and Tylendel's reincarnation (though we all love him as he is), has stolen the title from Alberich! (screams of "Ste-fen Ste-fen Ste-fen" roars though the Halls) For the category of "Favourite Supporting Female", a very close fight again. I feared for a tie, but recent votes have decided! Savil Ashkevron, the old "bat", has once again clinched the title!!! Boy, do we see a pattern here... (the Halls start roaring with sound.) *Shadowblade shhh-ed the Hall. Quiet falls on them like a cloak.* Ladies, Gentlemen, and various other life-forms, we have, your favourite villain. This really is cheating, for he is no villain at all, really. The villain with the heart, the one who can never tell a lie, earthbound to Hardorn, your favourite villain is (ex)Duke Tremane, King of Hardorn!!! (stamping and roaring resumes) Oh, now this is a close one. With the "new" thread of heartbreaking scenes, many votes have been decided. But although there was a close fight, you have once again proved the magic of The Last Herald Mage. Your favourite scene is "I'm shaych and what are you gonna do about it." starring Vanyel Ashkevron and good old Stefen!!! Woo-hoo! (screams in the audience from the female section) As for your favourite series, was there any doubt? "The Last Herald Mage trilogy" is once again the undisputed winner! It had blazed ahead of the other finalists, with a grand total of votes, three times that of the second-place!!! This is unheard of, people! (the "Heralds" section jump up and down waving banners of "Vanyel" all over the place) For the new category of "Best suited to be converted into a tv series/movie", *sigh* this is getting to be a habit! "The Last Herald Mage" again takes the title!!! This year definitely _is_ the year of "Last Herald-Mage" Now comes the tricky part...who plays your favourite characters??? (The "Heralds" section goes wild! "O-le...ole ole ole... o-le o-le"!) For the new category of "Favourite Filk", I'm sure you guys already know the winner! "Magic's Price" (composed and sung by the famous bard, Stefen) takes the Award! (strains start playing from various corners of the Halls, and the minstrels start humming its tunes) For the final category of "all time Favourite Character", well *wipes brow*, Tannim had put up a good fight, but... no one is your favourite if not Vanyel Ashkevron!!! (screams, wolf-whistles, stomping, and other forms of adoration. Some just stand there and smile, nodding slightly to themselves, though) Thanks for voting folks, and for putting up with me! See you once again next year! Till then, have some giggle bubbles! *She blows on her palm and huge coruscating bubbles float around the Hall. She bows deeply. The people in the Hall see a sudden movement, then "poof!" a column of smoke rises where Shadowblade once stood. The lights return to the Hall.* sorry, no obMisty... hehe... What do I know about old ballads, anyhow? As to the char I relate most to... I'd have to say Kero. I am a bit more retiring than she is, but our senses of humor are very similar, as are our tempers. I identified very much with her moments of concern that something might be wrong with her, and her inability to settle for a 'womanly' existence or a sinecure in Haven. All of the Heralds seem to have rocky relationships with their families but hers was probably the worst. I like the way Misty shows the anguish of losing a family and the struggle to make your own life and create a family from your friends around you. I have a problem with some of Misty's later work in the Valdemar books because her characters after Talia don't seem to have as many hardships as her earlier characters did. I realize that Misty doesn't like to dwell on the darker side of life but I think that some of the emotional pain she puts her characters through makes her work all the more touching. Then again, I'm absolutely brutal about how I like my fantasy so it could just be me. What do you think? I think Salvatore ripped off everything from Herbert, especially the armsmaster, he seems to be just like Duncan Idaho from 'Dune' and 'Dune Messiah'. But then again I've read Herbert's books up to 'God Emperor' about 10 times apiece. I think Salvatore is a hack author, his prose is impossible to read. Give me Robert Jordan any day. Flame ME if you feel like it, but don't spam up the list please. I enjoy introducing people to better standards of fantasy. Oh, can someone tell me what they thought of 'Tiger Burning Bright'. I was going to reccomend it to a friend, but since he's as brutal as I am about fiction and he detests MZB, I want a second opinion. I read too much Florian -------------- COLLEGE, n.
