Freedom Flight and Fantasy has a lot of lighter songs, that mainly tell storys. Like Dark and Stormy Night. By The Sword is very warrior like. A heavyer beat then FF&F. Kyree is very good and shaman like. Much like the book where it deal with the more mercenary warrior as opposided to the Harold part. Harpers Healers and Havok, that one is a mix. It's lighter, but focuses on different issues. The Healer's delimua, Queen's Own, etc. Showing different parts of the Valdamar court. Sorry, don't have their URL, always have to use a search engine for it. You'd have to pay more for shipping, but I'm pretty sure they ship out-of-country. As to the folks who have asked about albums -- personally, I recommend Shadow Stalker. Heather Alexander is good, and it's a well-produced album. Heralds, Harpers, & Havoc I'm not a very big fan of. It was the first of the Velgarth filk albums, made when they didn't have much money to spare on niceties like a good studio, and so it's very rough around the edges. Also, Misty herself sings all of Selenay's songs. Considering how much filk she's done, she may be a better singer than that and this album just caught her on a bad day, but it honestly ruined a couple of excellent songs. (Caveat: other people may not have the same problems with her performance that I do; I've been singing and training my voice for sixteen years and have developed my "ear" considerably over that time. Folks who aren't singers may not be bothered so much, but it's fingernails on a chalkboard to me.) Wow, this is a very complainy post. I'm really not this negative, honestly. I'm actually in a good mood, really I am.... (Also I just reread Fiddler Fair and LMAO at "Aliens Ate My Pickup"... again....) And I even put the copyright/publishing date. Of course, I'm at work now, and don't have the book to give anymore specific details. (I think it was 1991) I found it in a used bookstore, but I know you could find it online at Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com (Check spellings) A few weeks/months? ago, Lady Becky and I had a very short (one or two post) discussion about the story. Even the story has a few vagarities, but it is one where you just figure it is within the power of a Companion to accomplish. BTW, an ObMisty I was distinctly under the impression that they were only needed if you had a short, off-topic post. Maybe I'm wrong, but I didn't think every post needed on ObMisty because, like this one, it already is discussing her work and giving information about it, therefore already fulfills the obligatory Misty requirement. At the same time these books were being released, the Mage Storm trilogy was also being released. It would have been nice if she had started the 2nd book where the first one left off and maybe spent some time with how they survived the original storms and how the journey to White Gryphon was. Also, I had not seen such a total skip in perspective as is in between White Gryphon and Silver Gryphon. It is not just the skip in time, but the jump in characters. I am having problems trying to put my thoughts into words. Please forgive my screwiness. Also, since I do not subscribe to many magazines ( unemployed at moment), I was not aware that Larry was collaborator in other works. I did not mean to imply that I do not like his writing. Actually one of my fav stories in Sword of Ice is Ironrose which was co-written by him. Exactly. Writing about the storms in Gryphons would have given it away/ lessened the impact of Storms. I agree about the time skip between White and Silver tho. I really enjoyed Owlflight, so I re-read it enough times that I completely forgot how new it actually is. Secondly, on the 'Tremane's age' thread, I recall him stating himself (in Storm Rising, I believe) that he was "fourty-five years of age," and so not too much older than Charliss was at the same point in Charliss' career. (Tremane is thus younger that the (IMHO, highly inaccurate) drawings show). The descriptions of him _do_ say that he is balding, though, so he may look older. My other thought is on the 'industrialization of Valdemar'thread. I would somewhat look forward to this, because the artificers are actually thinking about the _side effects_ of their inventions, like pollution or materials waste. So I think that _intelligent_ induatrialization is not necessarily bad, either for the country or for the stories. No, you're right :). Call it a tithe to the meaning of the list to talk about Misty in your posts. When your whole post (or part of it) deals with Misty, then you have already tithed; when you haven't said anything much about Misty or her works, an ObMisty does so for you. And seeing as my post is about the list, and not about Misty's creations, I'll include one of my own :). ObMisty: I've been following the thread of picture characters some, and as for the quality of those pictures on the inside, from what I recall, Larry first draws them by hand, scans them into a computer, and then cleans them up on the screen. This may be what happens to the ones that seem grainy/what have you. Of course, we only have our own experience to judge from, but it strikes me as a bit optimistic to believe that the Valdemarans would be scientifically aware enough to judge the long-term effects of industrialization accurately. After all, no one in London realized that mass industry would lead to the famous nineteenth-century Dickensian pea-soup fogs. >I think one reason I was not so happy with the Mage Wars series is that >they skipped so much. At the same time these books were being released, >the Mage Storm trilogy was also being released. I would love to see a book or trilogy dealing with the world before the mage wars began. I'd love to read more about Urtho and see his experiments with life that led to the creation of the Gryphons, and I would love to see what the world was like. Of course, it may be that we are cursed with casual glimpses, just like the teasing vignettes of The Age of Legends in the Wheel of Time (What is a Sho-wing, exactly?) >It's heavily implied (and, I think, stated outright at one point) that >the dreams happened through mindspeech. I'm a loyal >member of the 'Kero and Eldan are not lifebonded' camp. But NEITHER of them were aware of it. I'm afraid I'm in the opposite camp. We've seen how much effort is required to contact someone via mindspeech at long distances. I just can't accept that something as intense as seemingly physical contact could be conveyed through involuntary mindspeech, at least without the aid of, if you will forgive my technical refference, a fiber-optic channel. >Chrome Circle is sooo much more cheesy. I agree wholeheartedly...I was rereading that a few weeks ago, and endured some serious ribbing from a couple of my friends. >Got my copy of Black Cauldron and watched it, first time I've seen it in >over 10 years I think. Now, I'll preface this by saying that I haven't seen the (shudder) Disney version of The Black Cauldron, but I grew up reading the Prydian books, and the thought of it being reduced to a few cartoony characters and stripped of everything but its basic plot makes me physically ill. Can someone who has read and loved these books AND seen this movie give me an honest opinion on it? Well, enough for now.... John E.
