At the end of BTS she is in Whites. She was almost 14 when chosen, and you don't get whites in 1 year or less at that age. She was 18 or 19 at end of BTS. Several years have passed before WoFate so she must be 22 or 23 then. So if Kyree can't lie mind-to-mind (it says that they can't in Oathbreakers), how could he have promised that to Kero? > Since Kyree can't lie mind to mind, he probably intended not to tell them, but if Tarma asked him directley, I don't think he would tell her no. Also a conversation between Tarma and Kethry where Tarma says "Warrl said to tell you that you were right; she's a Mindspeaker...." makes me believe that Kethry asked him to train her. If that is so, he could tell Kero that he would not tell them and not lie because they already knew. He realized later that it was because of the magic running through the countryside, and the mage-gift potential he had was picking up on it and making him uneasy. Or something like that. :) I don't have the book here in front of me. It was kind of a fore-shadowing thing. As for the Companion thing....it'll be a little more explained as you get to the later books. Not very WELL mind you.....but it is explained a little. Some of it is even touched on in _The Oathbreakers_. I've been a little disappointed with some of the newer Misty books but I hope its just a "slump" and she'll work her way out of it. I really didn't like the way she just wrapped everything up nice and neat-like at the end of the Storms trilogy, but thats IMHO. I hope that _Owlsight_ is better than _Owlsflight_. :) But I must say I was overjoyed with _Oathblood_!!!! :) Yay! -Kethryvis Lady in Green Cat Person Goddess of the Impatient and several other affiliations that I can't remember at the moment. :) ---------- From: Hobbs Tina To: kethryvis-+AT+-reachme.net Subject: Re: LHM & other stuff Date: Wednesday, August 19, 1998 11:18 AM tina :-) Merry meet, merry part, merry meet, again. Hamilton, and, if you like vampires, I have to recommend Vampire$, by John Steakley. This book is being turned into a movie. Also, I have to say that Anne McCaffrey's novel The Masterharper of Pern is one of her best novels to date. I loved it. Couldn't put it down, which was unfortunate, because I was supposed to be baby-sitting... <> At one point I actually combed through the books and put together a timeline for them all, but the only one that I can find right now is Elspeth and Talia. From what I can determine, Darkwind was nineteen when the Heartstone exploded, and that had been quite a number of years ago, so I think that he would have been twenty-seven when Elspeth showed up in the Vale. I think she stayed in the Vale for three years, so she would have been about twenty-eight or twenty-nine when she left, which would have made him about 29 or thirty. Firesong, well, he's a mystery. I never found anything about him, except that he came into his gift early, at the age of ten. As to how the mages age differently, I just thought that working with magic made them look younger longer than non-mages. The effect of the magic was to slow down how aging made them look, not actually slow the aging process. In Magic's Price, Savil teases Starwind about how he and his beloved still look young, when they are really about the same age as she is at the time, in her eighties. While she has not slowed down much, she looks her age. I seem to remember that she asks them where they hide the simulacrums that age for them, and Starwind tells her that she would have the same benefits if she but lived and worked in the Vale, because the magic would make her look younger as it supplied energy or something. Again, apologies that I have no textevd, but the books seem to have escaped me. I recently moved, and the boxes are all over still, and I can't find anything. Welcome to all the newbies! That, and who wouldn't mind having to read Misty for homework? :o) Another really good author is Robin McKinnely. I loved her story "The Blue Sword". *** I think I have an IRC program on my computer. I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain to me how it works. I have Eudora Light and Mindspring. Thanx. Fallenangel and Carson did most of the work establishing it. For more information, check out the web page in my sig :) ObMisty: Oh, Gosh. I read Oathblood a bit ago. That's about as much Misty I've had time for. Trying to get going with school starting and all. So sorry. I sent this post a few days ago, but I myself never received it so I wasn't sure if it actually went through or not. If you did get it, I'm very sorry for the extra mail. Lots of milk chocolate sheep for everyone to make up for it! Let's see.... I'd probably be good-natured most of the time, but have a kind of short and nasty temper. And I'd read all the time when I was supposed to be working. ;) Since I seem to have an overdose of empathy in real life (I can feel sorry even for inanimate objects! ::looks disgusted with herself::), I might have the Gift of Empathy. If I could be something other than human, I'd be a gryphon! They are so wonderful! Plus they can have vicious tempers too. ;) In fact, I have a gryphon character that I role-play sometimes on the internet. May the wind be in your wings, brother Gryphon Storm! No horses... yeesh, even the smallest of ponies wouldn't be happy on this tiny lot! Lots of other animals, though. Three dogs and seven cats. Only two of them, a dog and cat, are actually mine; one cat is my brother's, and the remaining five cats are my mom's. The other dogs don't belong to anyone in particular; they love attention from anybody. April asked a little while ago: I did! I thought he was great! It was so sad when he died, and I get tears in my eyes when Kechara asks when he's coming back. I wish more was known about Urtho. He was such a kind and intelligent person. He's one of Misty's characters that I'd most like to meet, along with just about everybody else in the Mage Wars. If only such a thing were possible! I just got really attached to those characters, for some reason. Black Gryphon might be my favorite Valdemar book... I know most everybody likes MPawn or MPrice or the Arrows series best, and I do love those, but BG really got to me somehow. I could really relate to Amberdrake a lot of the time, and I've never seen any gryphons that I like anywhere near as much as Misty's. And yes, I did think SG was good. Not like most of her other books, certainly, but for just an entertaining story and a "what happened next" type thing, I thought it was very enjoyable. And I liked Tad, too. I wish I could find out what happened with Keenath, though.. While I'm on the subject.. does anybody else like the Andean band Inti- Illimani? (I know, this doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Mage Wars series, but I was listening to their Return of the Condor album the afternoon I finished reading BG.) Sunhawk said: Nope, you're not the only one! I'm always imagining myself in Misty's books and in Star Trek. My friend and I actually act out this kind of stuff sometimes... but then, we're probably both totally insane, at least I know I am... um.. ::blushes and follows Sunhawk's lead of hiding behind the sheep:: Okay, that's all for tonight. I shouldn't stay up so late on a school night, but I really hate going to bed early. I think it was Kalistia that said she had to restrain herself from going to sleep late now that school has started again... boy, I sure can sympathize with that. Getting up early is even worse... Anyway, zhai'helleva to all my listsibs! And an extra-special hello to Sioned, because she recruited me to this list! Though you probably don't remember it, thanks anyway, Sioned. :) Ardath Summerstorm Brand-new member of the OOUH (Vikteren, Snowstar, and Hydona!!!) ^ | | look, a longer signature! :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 18:50:38 -0400 From: Jeffery Kuebler To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: A bit of humor for all and a question... The Holderkin Sheep Song is originally from Karse (as are the Holderkin). "Threes" is a song about Tarma and Kethry, but it isn't "That Song". Acctually, there are a lot of songs that originate from Rethwellan. "Kerowyn's Ride" was mentioned somewhere in "Queen's Own", and then there are the songs form the Shin'a'in. I hope this has answered your question, at least in part. ===== Zhai'helleva, ~Astreia, the (sort of) Bardic Trainee ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1692 **********************************
