The woman gazes at them fondly until she realizes that they are beginning to edge toward the people in the hall. She gets up but they scamper away and disappear. "Oh, Well. If anything turns up missing please tell me and I will see if they have it. Welcome Welcome Welcome to all of you Newbies!" The woman waits for her friends to return, knowing they will have stolen something. ************* Question time, In Black Gryphon, Amberdrake is considered to be a fairly powerful healer as well as an empath--he is better than Winterhart--he tends to all of the non human casualties in the one after battle scene and he completely heals the damage done to Skans wings. But in Silver Gryphon, he does not seem to have much in the way of healing power. He can help Blade and Tad, but he is not able to completely heal their injuries. Is this a result of the mage storms or is this just a mistake in the plot? ~Asteria asked about a "Deer" novel by Robin McKinley: Deerskin This is a pretty intense novel. Its about a young princess who is raped by her isane father after her mother's death and then helped by a Goddess to heal and find herself as well as finding love. I do not want to say too much in fear of giving away plot points, but since some people on the list have mentioned objections to rape scenes I thought I would state right up front that this novel deals with that topic. Highly recommended but I caution readers to be wary of being wacked over the head with an emotional frying pan. Do not read this if you are depressed. I think to the time the rescue party reaches Blade and Tad, Amberdrake would be pretty much drained (of physical, if not mental power. If you're K.O., you can't work more than getting your bed ready. And sleep. I think Amberdrake would be in such a situation. Also, he's "old". He wasn't so _very_old when he worked for Urtho (20-25 years, imho), and then he was able to work all night and well into the day ;-). But now... Skan has problems with his joints, and Amberdrake could have lost some of his strenght, if not of his powers... The storms: They didn't affect mind-magic, did they? Renfaire merchants don't seem to make cloaks (or anything else) in petite sizes, unless you have them tailor-made. And it's laughable, trying to get something the right length, even in a petite-sizes store. The skirts are either down to my ankles or above my knee--nothing at a conservative professional length, like 2 inches below the knee. In fact, they hardly even make suits with skirts, anymore; all I usually see is pantsuits, a la Dana Scully. Or, even worse, they're those shorts suits. Bleah! ::sigh:: I think this is why I made Aerden male and 6'3". At least _he_ can find clothing! (Rant mode off) ObMisty--Does anyone know if Lackey is planning to write anymore non-Valdemar books in the near future? I'm always interested to see what writers do when they get out of the series that made them popular and branch out into new territory. I have really enjoyed the Diana Tregarde series, the SERRAted Edge books, and _Sacred Ground_. I haven't read _The Fire Rose_ yet, but am looking forward to it. I thought _If I Pay Thee Not in Gold_ was pretty good, but got a bit far-fetched toward the end; the D&D campaign feel of the second half didn't appeal to me, though I _did_ like the way that rejoining the shards of the crystal changed the nature of magic in the world. That was a fascinating idea, and I wish Piers Anthony or Lackey had decided to do more with it. I'd love to see other books that talked about how magic worked when fewer or more parts of the crystal were together. That would make a wonderful book series, I think. Heck, I'd like to write one. It's a remake of a rather obscure fairytale (she likes to write remakes of fairytales a LOT). The rape scenes in Misty's books were not quite as graphic, at least I didn't think so......this is graphic and very......real. I won't say anything else, but it was the first story I've ever read to make me burst into tears....and that's AFTER I read Little Women. It's a very good book. Is there any chance this guy could be Leareth? I don't think that it could be, because Vanyel destroys him in a magic duel just before Savil and the Tayledras get there. Leareth wouldn't have had time to be reborn after the mage (Krebain?) was killed. There wouldn't have been enough time for Leareth to grow up, achieve a power-base, and gain an army in the years between Leareth and the mage Van killed in MPawn. This is just my opinion, and I have no evidence to back this up. Anybody else want to take a stab at it? I'll go now, and hope that I manage to write in sometime before next July.
