I can't remember any other exceptions, but I admit that I have not finished Winds yet. :-) Some body refresh my memory, what is the name of the lizard-like people that helped the Hawkborthers. They were created by Urtho (Yes?) **I'm sorry that I don't have texted but I usually get the books from libraries instead of purchasing, poor, starving college kid, don't you know** The my actual question is did anyone notice a race-personality shift. In Winds and LHM they are VERY shy, to the point that Van didn't see them (almost never). In the Griphon's, especially the one who served Amberdrake, were not nearly as shy. The one I'm talking about regularly pined Skan and Amberdrakes ears back, and gave his opinion to anyone. Did anyone else notice this, or am I reaching? Its the fourth time, and it gets better everytime. This year I've decided to go in full costume. I found this great fabric, from Walmart's discount bin of all places. Its a deep rust colored velvet with all of these textures in the shape of medieval roosters, flowers and cross hatching. Its absolutely gorgeous and I got it really cheap. I'm going with my best friend and we are going to spend the whole day there. On a similar note, I love the Bedlam's Bard series and I was wondering if the next in the series is still going to be released? Or did the two book combo signal the end? I would love Firebird or Misty to get together and make a CD of music from or inspired by the Bedlam's Bard series. I love music of that nature and while I have an extensive collection, I have not been able to find some of the naughty songs that Eric and Beth were supposed to sing. I would also love it if they would sell the designs for some of the costumes described in the books, they sound wonderful. I wonder if Misty is going to do anything else in that series? I would love to read about the lives of some of the elves like Melissande (sp?) I have always been intrigued by the little bit of story that Susan told. I would also like to learn more about Kory's past. On RPing I am sure that a Councilor or some one else in authority will say this, but it is an absolute no no in any form. Misty can and will sue if she finds out, even if it is just between a few individuals. It can also get the list in trouble to discuss it here. My advice is to love her stories but stay out of trouble and forget about RP unless Misty comes out with one herself, which seems unlikely. If she'd given Need to Tarma **first** and had Tarma attack the mage physically, the guy would've been pretty helpless. Kethry is an Adept after all, and ought to be able to defend herself and Jadrek long enough for Tarma to dispose of him. > Kris answered the same question with: > > >I think it has something to do with Need being "asleep." Later, in BTS, Quenten convinces Need to protect the whole company of Skybolts. Hair: short, brown, thick, which I think puts me in a minority. Height: 5'1", if I stretch. How many folks on this list are southpaws? As much as I enjoy the Velgarth books, I think they're going downhill. It drives me NUTS when authors deliberately end a book on a cliff-hanger, much less a trilogy where we can expect a multi-month (if not year) wait for resolution. Ms. Lackey is doing this with annoying regularity lately (the Winds trilogy, and the Storm trilogy). I also was somewhat offended by the bulk of Oathblood being a retelling of the stories in Oathbound -- and speaking of Oathblood, has anyone noticed that Tindel (see Oathbreakers) got somehow changed to Tilden? Sloppy editing! It may be my imagination, but I also think that the more recent books suffer from typos caused by using a computer rather than a human to do proofing. --Skysinger ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Sep 98 20:09:23 -0500 From: mizel001 To: Subject: Owlflight, stuff, fluff Message-ID: <199809100100.UAA00104-+AT+-bama.ua.edu> Heyla! Irony is alive and well in the world, as the way I found this list was by a query I made to someone else about a Valdemar/Hearlds RPG. I'd also heard rumors that Misty had squashed any attempts at such, because she didn't like it, because it was infringing on her world etc. Those rumors didn't really sit well with me, how can someone that writes such amazinginly human and caring stories be so awful about something like this. So I tried to ask someone who might actually know the scoop. (Someone at firebird) The response I got was a bit more acceptable and I thought I might post it here. It is true that there is no RPG for any of Misty's worlds, but I wasn't told there never would be. I was told that the reason there aren't is because all requests have been from fans (just like you and me) that wanted to create a game, but not bother with the copyright protections etc. You have to buy copyrights and stuff to produce something off of someone else's work, I'm not sure how much it costs but I'm doing some research. Unless someone actually contacts the publisher's, Agents and I suspect Misty herself and is willing to fork over the bucks for Copyrights there probably won't ever be a game. But I was told, NOT because Misty just flat refuses. It opens HER up to get sued and possibly in the future to be unable to write certain stories, characters etc in her own world. It was explained to me, that a similar situation happened to another well-known writer, she allowed fan fiction etc to be written in and around her creation, then she herself was sued for a story in the same world because it came to close to the 'fan-fiction'. The long and short is that particular writer can not in her lifetime publish this story, and it was her characters her world etc. If you look at it that way it's not such a terrible thing that there isn't a RPG. Maybe someone will decide it's really worth it and come up with the legal stamp of approval at some time in the future. I for one would rather have lots more books from Misty than an RPG (and I love RPG's) that may in some silly way later hamper Misty's writings or do her harm. Anyway I just thought I'd share that with the group seeing that the thread popped up.
