All I can say is AMEN to this post.....I agree with you totally.  You 
would think that the woman would WANT her world to live on and would 
allow other to live in her world outside of what she wrote.  Okay, if 
she wont let others make RPs about her world, then SHE should create an 
RP for her world and sell it!  I think she would be surprised at how 
many people would actually buy it.

AND now its time for Kethry's Rant (tm)

Y'know...I love Misty.  I really do.  Her stories are great...she 
created
this really great world...granted her newer books aren't as good but hey 
I
can overlook that....but this FanFic/RP'ing/MUSH/MUD thing has kinda 
ticked
me off ever since I first heard about it a few years back.  Okay, I can 
see
where Misty could get ticked to no end if someone was SELLING a Valdemar
RP/FanFic/etc., making big bucks without her permission and not getting 
a
cut...but c'mon!  Imitation is the HIGHEST form of flattery.  Misty 
should
be flattered that many of us want to build on what she's made for our 
**own
enjoyment**  I doubt any of us want to sell a Valdemar RP.  I know that 
any
FanFic I've written I would never DREAM of selling to any magazines 
because
I have high respect for Misty and her characters and her world.  The 
stuff
I write is strictly for my enjoyment and my friends who read Misty's 
stuff.
 I *like* seeing what I can do with the worlds she's created, seeing 
what
different situations I can create there, etc.  Again this is **for my
enjoyment** not for me to make money, notoriety, etc.  

I dunno.  I can see where Misty is coming from if someone were trying to
make money off of their Velgarth RP/FanFic/MUSH/MUD/etc.  But if we 
wanna
do it to have fun...I think she should lighten up a little.  Heck, even 
the
Star Trek folks <who are MEGA copyright enforcement dudes> are a little 
bit
lighter about this kind of thing than Misty is.  If I were a successful
writer and I knew that fans of mine were making RPs, etc. based on my 
stuff
and just playing them to have fun and not selling them, I'd be touched!  
It
shows (to me) that the things that I wrote and the stories I created hit
home with someone, they enjoyed it, and liked it SO much they wanted to
keep the story going.

BUT this is of course is IMHO.  Flame away. :)

Well, it is not so much a braid, as questions....

If I go to get a Tempest CD, which one should I start with? Also, what
was that other band's name... Steeleye Spam? Stan? Span? and which
should I get of 'em.

What else... Ah... while I would love a RPG, it's a big NONO, and
that's all I'll say, as everyone is commenting... Anyone know of a
Keltia MUSH? Or does she have the same policy as Misty?

Skan was bleached white by the GAte, because he was /caught/ in it. He
made it out, but his coloring didn't. ;) As for Van and his Healing...
I always took it to mean that all of his channels /but/ for Healing
was blasted open. As in, totally open.... Why couldn't that channel be
at the very end, and only gotten a tiny bit open. Lack of force from
the blast at the end.. Or maybe it was only cracked, and as time went
by... it opened a tiny bit.

Well, that's it for now.... Mocha sheep to all, with chocolate-mint
syrup fillings and whip-cream fuzzy-wool!

The problem that ML has is in my opinion that she fears 
to get sued by a fanfic-author or RPG-author for "stealing" 
the ideas for a novel etc. from the other author as it 
happened to MZB some time ago. She read a fan-story 
that overlapped with a darkover novel she wrote 
(Contraband, IIRC) and had *serious* problems, resulting 
in us never getting to read that book and her prohibiting 
everyone to use her world.

and the history of the Darkover anthologies at the same

citing MZB's comments about Fanfic 'till the bitter end. A 
very recomended read. It's sad, but true, and I can 
understand ML, even if I'm not happy about it. 
I too found myself wondering if I had to rewrite some of 
my filks concerning Velgarth... 

Also, the Queens Own seems to me like the Misty-
Sanctioned RPG system... but I never got "farer" (wider? 
sp?) than reading the Herald-Handout for achieving a 
herald persona and shuddering about the Herald-Mage-
Handout. But if you really want to play it _very_ badly, 
why don't you join Queens Own and survive the RL-tests 
of becoming a herald? With becoming a herald, you get 
your own, restricted permission to write Valdemar Fanfic, 
IIRC. But you should check out the Homepage of QO or 
one of the QO-sanctioned heralds.

well, as i recall, in the Storms trilogy, Altra talks about how he can
move from the palace in Valdamar to other places (like to talk to the
Son of the Sun)....he does indeed call it Jumping...it is sort of like
'fetching' but he fetches himself over great distances....kind of like

Ok, now that my playfull revenge is out i would like to thank everyone
for welcoming me to the list and for everyone who answered my question
about Vree (could be considered stupid, but yall didnt act like it so
thank ye again!!).

About the RPG stuff...well if misty forbids it without her copyrite,
well I want to make the suggestion that "the List" get her copyrite..
Im sure that we could all contribute a lil bit o $$ so that we could
display our creative fanfic and begin work on designing a Valdamar RPG.
I just kinda wanted to through that up, cause i really like the idea
of a Misty RPG...and if anyone knows how to contact her, please let me know

Ok..Question for everyone on the list!!!! "How old is everyone and 
where does everyone live?"  I personally am looking for people who
live in AL (or nearby) to meet and discuss ML works IRL. (there are
painfully few i fear!)

and last thing....what every happend to Karal??!?!?!?  I thought that
he was an awsome character and would like to see more of him!!!
Does anyone else feel this way, or heard about him coming back in a 
later book?  I certainly hope so...anhoo...*looks down at his dripping

Forgive me for sounding rather dumb (I'm not quite an expert on Oathbreakers
yet...only read it once) or repeating anyone, but ok- Need was Kethry's right?
She was bonded to Kethry and thus Kethry was the main person she helped out,
right? Now I realize Tarma's also a woman and thus Need would help her out if
she needed it (no pun), but...ok, wait lemme just ask this, I can't seem to
get this straight: Does Need, when she's asleep,  perform her magic on
whatever woman is holding her at the time or only on the one she's bonded to?

high school, they don't believe me. And the crowning achievement-- I went to a
PG movie the other day, and the guy at the ticket booth carded me to make sure
I was over 13!!!!
Sad, huh?

Oh, I've finally read LHM, Vows and Honor, and all three of AotQ in addition
to my previous knowledge of Winds (went to the library and checked out every
single Misty book they had). I know this is an old topic, but now that I've
got em all under my wing I like Vows and Honor best. Tarmy and Kethry just
seem the realest to me. :)

I hate agreeing with people on stuff like this!  :(

I was very VERY disappointed with the Storms trilogy and mildly
disappointed with the Winds.  The ending of the Storms seemed like it was a
"oh my gosh, I really need to get this wrapped up 'cause I'm tired of
writing this storyline" kind of thing.  I'm kinda disappointed with the Owl
books too.  

And its not just Velgarth.  I bought the last Bardic Voices book (_Four and
Twenty Blackbirds_) and it wasn't up to par either, IMNSHO.  I didn't like
the fact that it wasn't centered on the Bards really...it was centered on
this cheezy constable type personage and whats-her-name, Wren's cousin the
Justicular.  

C'mon Misty!!!  you're capable of such better writing than this!!

And and Aye to that.  I skipped all of the re-told stories (tho there
weren't THAT many...weren't there only like 2 or 3?)  but to me it was
worth it to get the story of Tarma and Kethry meeting. :)

Wow!  When did KC get a Ren Faire??  I lived in and around the KC area for
like 14 years and never saw the faire.  Hmph. :)  Unfortunatly, the  main
Northern Cal Ren Faire in Novato is going bye bye <sniffle> this is the
first year I've actually gotten to go and now its LEAVING!!!! WAAHHH!!

As to the music from various Bards...I'm in the SCA and a lot of the songs
Misty talks about are verrrrrrrry similar to the songs that we sing (in
fact, I think Misty is also an SCA member).  Mostly it seems to be the
music from the Bardic Voices series and if anyone wants the words to songs
like that, email me privately and I'll see what I can do for you.  I've
actually sung several Misty songs at event (Kerowyn's Ride,  Shadow Lover,
and I'm finding someone to sing "That Song" with...) to a lot of success.
:)

Not entirely true--Tarma used Need more than once. In OBound when Keth 
and Tarma are turning the tables on Lastel Longknife's bandit ring, Keth 
hands Need to Tarma so that Tarma can see past the illusion on Lastel 
(trivia--Kero mentions this same type of illusion in the beginning of 
WoFate). And, though it is Kethry in the female-Lastel body who uses 
Need to cut through the lock on their cell, when Tarma snatches Need up 
during the fight Need undoes all the spells Thalkarsh put on her--which 
were considerable. And, of course, we are led to believe that Need 
attracts the Karsite priestesses in By The Sword. However, there is 
never a case of any *other* female who Need had not chosen using the 
blade or recieving her bennies, other than the protection extended to 
the Skybolts through Quenten's tinkering (and I'd love to know how he 
did that).

The creatures you're thinking of are herstasi--in particular 
Amberdrake's helper Gesten. (Not Gestern, as people like to spell it.) I 
have some theories on this.
Firstly, Gesten seemed rather assertive even compared to the other 
hertasi of his day and age--certainly Cinnabar's helpers, whose names I 
cannot recall, said little if anything onstage, and poor Jewel who had 
been assigned to Aubri was easily overwhelmed by Winterhart.
Also, at this point in time hertasi were all over Urtho's people, human, 
gryphon, and everything else. To draw a slight comparison, the 
Kaled'a'in are a lot less of a mystery during Urtho's time. And, it's a 
war, which requires a little more assertiveness.
Conversely, in Van's time and in Elspeth's, the hertasi are only with 
the Tayledras and, as we discover, k'Leshya. They've been isolated, and 
as the Tayledras became more insular and secretive, so must have the 
hertasi.
It's not perfect, but it's a theory.

It's more noticeable when they're wet, and really not seen during the 
winter except in show horses, but if their coat is fine enough it does 
happen. My white (grey) Welsh/Arab, who has a very short and thin summer 
coat, looks bluish when she's shedded out.

Technically, a horse whose coat and/or mane and tail is not pure 
white--absolutely no dark hairs--or whose skin is black or grey-black is

albino). Which is why George Washington's white horse was not white. :) 
Non-horse people never seem to comprehend this, though. I can't imagine

I've often wondered if Companions' skin is black or pink. Their eyes are 
blue, and they're considered white, which ought to make them true 
white--but their hooves are grey(silver) which only occurs when the skin

pinkish-white hooves. If the pink skin extends up the leg you get a 
coronet ring/sock/stocking/etc.). And if their skin was pink, their 
muzzles would sunburn. Ponderponder.

hm, well its possible that over the years, maybe the Hawkbrothers 
changed their attitude toward the Hertasi, and that caused the behavior 
change....or maybe because of where they lived, it became necessary to 
move quietly and have minimal communication with everyone else (hey, if 
I lived in the Pelagirs, I wouldn't exactly want to have a conversation 
with everything that walked by--even if a lot of it probably is safe).

School is torture i am really glad my birthday is coming up i really need
a party to cheer me up people in school aren't all that friendly.

training as a trondi'irn i may start a group if anyone is interested. A
reminder a trondi'irn is a healer of creatures beside humans.: He bows to
those listening and takes to the nearest pump to fill the tub but instead
decides to find a magic bucket instead.:

I am only 12 does anyone find it surprising?
