Are ren folk festivals mainly run by the SCA? Also -- I read somewhere that
Misty was once part of that organization. Does anyone know if she's still
active?

Ren Festivals around here are generally run by whatever corporation has
the most money and wants to sucker people out of more of the same.  A few
years ago I would have said there was open warfare between the Rennies and
the SCAdians, but that has died down as the interbreeding continues (Kinda
good because I consider myself among both factions.)

As far as I know, Misty is not active with the SCA any longer, but the
various Valdemar heraldric devices are registered.

Is anyone else having a tough time joining the Yahoo Misty club?  Every
time I go to the address they send me, and I try to join, it says that my
identity doesn't match my login....so I login again...same problem.  
Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, Savil did come back as a Companion (Kerowyn's to be exact -
Sayvil).  I do know that Jason (Companion to Elspeth's step-father
((sorry, can't remember his name!!!)) was once a Herald.  I also think
that Tantris (Kris's Companion) was once a Herald.  As for any others,
I too would love to know.

Finally finished!  Boy, I don't know about you people, but I really
wasn't that pleased with the storyline in Elvenbane.  I thought it was
very vague.  I mean, it really didn't seem to flow together like the
first book did.  I've read Elvenbane and I really enjoyed it.  But its
sequel wasn't as good, IMHO.  Many of the things that happen are not
really explained and are sort of taken for granted.

What really got to me was that Misty really didn't explain much about
the history of the Iron People and of their total dislike of elves and
everything elven (if she did, i must have missed it...could anyone
tell me page(s) or have some textev?).

Of course, this is only an opinion.  I really have enjoyed Misty's
work and I hope to begin on the Chrome Circle series soon.  



As for the height/hair color/age/religion thread, IRL I am a 19 year
old college student attending the University of Wisconsin Superior.  I
am 5'9" with auburn color hair (which gets reddish streaks in the
summertime).  I am a non-practicing Roman Catholic, but I still
believe in many of the church's beliefs.  I hardly know any pagans
(all we have here are Catholics, Lutherns, and Presbyterians).  The
only non-religious person I know of is my father (he's agnostic).

For the person asking about our list characteristics (sorry that I
forgot your name!!  I'm not very good with names!!), I am an elven
sorceress.  I do not come from any of Misty's worlds; I come from a
place known as "Winds of Change" (it's a MUD).  I am currently
redecorating my home (web page - deals greatly with many fantasy

smack Eric every third page, Kory was mostly just cutely depressing, and

either my admiration or my animosity. I only vaguely recall the plot. 
Really, I much prefer the Serrated Edge.

At home, when I actually had a TV, I caught Sailor Moon on the Cartoon 
Network for kicks. Am now slightly annoyed that I got into it, because a 
new plot had just started when I moved. Personally, I live in hope that 
someone will set Darien up with Lita and Malachite will return to rid 
the world of that annoying little Chibi Moon. Though granted, Sailor 
Moon has been (slowly) improving. :)
My general opine on the whole thing is that it's an odd but amusing 
combination of a decent plot with some truly ridiculous concepts and 
characters, and the odd very nicely-drawn personage. 

On the gits-who-think-reading-is-weird thing... generally, they ask what 
I'm reading, I hold up the book so they can see the cover, they frown in 
puzzlement and either ask what it is or walk away. If they ask what it 
is, I tell them, usually being sure to phrase it in a way that they'll 
never understand. 'Cause I'm evil that way. I figure if they really want 
to know what it's about they can go get a copy and read it themselves.

On the Misty Polls:
I'm 33  (making Lorraine the list Matriarch *grin*)
I'm 6'0" (taller than both of my parents and all my siblings, aunts and
uncles.)
I have butt length naturally curly, naturally red (not orange or strawberry)
hair
I have 5 kids between 11 and 4 (4 of those between 8 and 4)
Animals: 3 dogs and a cat (though we've had so many other animals at various
times!)
I have been on the list three years in August, I think
My first Misty was Murder, Mystery and Mayhem (a filk tape) followed by T&K
short stories, followed by the Oath books.
Favorite Book: Knight of Ghost and Shadows, followed by the other Urban
books (though I have to agree with Raven that Eric is an annoying whiner,
but not as bad as White gold Wielder, who should have been shot and put out
of everyone's misery.)

That's right! That has bugged me for ages (why Jisa didn't get to rule as
number one, ala Selenay) and that is the reason! *bangs hand on head*.
Since they weren't married, the line of rule would go to the next ligitimate
male, Trevan.  Once they married, she became ligit and could rule with him,
but he would be the main ruler.  Raven covered the MO part.

I just started reading BTS today... and was totally captivated by it... the
beginning is really powerful... wow, I think this is going to be one of my
favourites... but god do I HATE the front cover. hate hate hate hate! it's

Hm... Firesong is in owlsight????? I really liked Firesong- annoying as he
was, he was amusing...

And I still can't remember what I wanted to ask. Drat. Need really reminds
me of some of my mother's friends though, but it's certainly more amusing to
hear about her than to be around people like her. she is a wonderful
character though- I find she comes across just as fully sword or no sword...

Companions never mindspeak their chosen sometimes after the choosing? seems
to defeat the point a bit- I mean isn't the intimacy really important...
emotional support and all that. Oh and why is Karal wearing a turban like
thing (was that what I was wondering about?) I mean the books NEVER mention
him ahving any sort of headress... all the interior illustrations he isn't
either... or is it meant to be a ceremonial thing...? That really confused
me. Also, does anyone think that the firecat bright red faces might be quite
ugly? personally I don't much like ginger cats...

Not necessarily.  Talia and Roland were pretty close even tho they didn't
mindspeak.  BUT he did speak to her when he Chose her.  The point I was
trying to make was, yeah most Companions Mindspeak with their Chosen, but
since Teren made the point to say that they don't always then it must be
fairly common. (Talia doesn't Mindspeak with Rolan, and the Herald who
tried to kill Tashir's Companion in the LHM series didn't Mindspeak with
his Companion, etc...) He said something along the lines of "Did you hear a
voice in your head when your Companion Chose you?  Well, you weren't
dreaming.  Your Companion always Mindspeaks to you when he Chooses you,
even if he never does again."

Or something like that. :)

Nekked?? ROTFLMAO. My dear where are you from?! That sounds like
something Id hear from my own beloved hills and hollers of KY. LOL
As for putting it into practice well, some of us Im sure wouldnt have a
problem (me being a rat I scurry around in my fur-day suit as it is.)
but we all know that some of those Valdemarians have some interesting
inhibitions so I suggest we keep that restricted to Master
GrypgonStorm's and Lady Tilyn's (sp?) pools. <bg>

I agree that Talia couldn't be descended from the guards, but women at least were
allowed to be shaych.  Remember, Talia said something about there being lots of
"special friends" among the underwives.


Query - All this talk about Monarch's Own and co-rulers made me think of Selenay and
Daren.  When he became co-ruler did that make Talia his Monarch's Own also?


Have any of you read Fiddler Faire?  I was massively disappointed by it.  I know
that we have all discussed how we don't like the more recent Velgarth books, but
even her "worst" books have always been more enjoyable to read than any other author
for me - until now.  This collection of stories has many in it that I don't think
would have been published if they hadn't of had Misty's name on it.  And it isn't
because she is going downhill, many of these stories are older ones that were
published separately.


Someone asked about the Andre book and if it will be published due to the no Di
Tregarde rule - sorry I deleted the post.  Anyway, IIRC the book was done because of
the no Di rule.  Misty's publisher wanted another book and Misty didn't want to do
one -for all the reasons listed in her Last Straw letter- so she agreed to write one
about Andre that takes place decades before Diana Tregarde was even born.

Somehow i doubt it.....I mean, hes been doing this for awhile.  And 
isn't he pretty neccessary (not really for the Heraldic web, etc.) but 
in a Sword Of Ice story, didn't he help that kid survive awhile?  It 
would be pretty nice to have a pleasant spirit in the Forest of Sorrows.

Um..just so you know, that word does NOT mean fish, it means "christ".  
personally, i like my fish best, is a christian fish(yes, i am) eating a 
darwin fish, which just amuses me in large ways

this has SERIOUSLY been bothering me. ok, in the first Winds, the 
Gryphons have a mating flight, and they complete it before being 
attacked by falconsbane. even if gestation period is insanely long, 
shouldnt hydona at least not be in any condition to travel if not 
already had the little ones by the time the trip in Storms comes up?  
did i miss something?
