Kethry wrote ( about Daren ): >Hm. I don't think he's considered the King to Selenay's Queen. He's always referred to as PRINCE Daren, because he's a member of the Royal House of Rethwellan. Just like how Queen Elizabeth's husband, Prince Phillip, isn't King of England. He's Prince of...Greece? Something like that.< Well, I'm sorry but that's nonsense. Prince Phillip is prince of England, and most definitely not of Greece ( especially not now, when they don't recognize their royal family ). A monarch is either a king or a queen, but a person married to a monarch is either a prince or a queen. Don't ask me why. This means that if a person marriages a queen, he becomes a prince of the queen's realm ( in Daren's case Valdemar ), and he have to renounce all ties to other countries. He can't even be a noble of another country after the marriage. >But if he were King then yes, I would assume that Talia would be considered the true Monarch's Own Herald, and not called Queen's Own< I'm just thinking, and I can't think of any case of co-rulers in RL. I suppose it makes sense that there only can be one person who is above everyone else. In fantasy on the other hand it seems, if not common, then not too rare.. About mindspeaking with companions: There are different ways of "mindspeaking". Talia uses empathy, so she only senses emotions. The true types of mindspeaking are thought and pictures. Vanyel had both types and empathy IIRC. Somebody wrote: >Has anyone else seen the movie Ran directed by Akira Kurisawa? It is in Japanese, but it is an absolutely gorgeous movie about medieval Japan.< Yes it is a very good movie, even if it is based on a Shakespeare plot, and it probably didn't harm that Spielberg and George Lucas helped Kurisawa with the movie. I'm sad that Kurisawa died recently. The height/age/area tread: I'm 23 years old, 186cm tall ( about 6'2" ), which isn't that tall in my neighbourhood. Yeah, I agree on that. Whoever disagreed on Sayvil needs to be smacked... And on the mindspeaking thing -- I had the idea that the moment of Choosing was just such a deep and fundamental connection that the Companion could speak to his/her Chosen despite the fact that said Chosen is essentially "deaf." > Raven Darkblade wrote: > smack Eric every third page, Kory was mostly just cutely depressing, and > Beth was only identifiable-with in spurts. None of the villains inspired > either my admiration or my animosity. I only vaguely recall the plot.> I can never keep straight which was which of KoG&S and StT. Whichever was whichever, I liked the second one much better than the first. About the first one, I mostly agree about wanting to smack Eric. There were in fact a rather small number of bits I did like -- Eric's clothes not fitting him any more after Kory has altered them, Kory throwing Eric around for touching his ears, Eric practicing dueling with the Prince, and the "morning after Eric got dumped" scene. In other words, the scenes where he's not spending all his time feeling sorry for himself. I think the reason I like the second one better is that Eric is a lot more likable. > next, i really like Welsh history, and Welsh (the language), and Wales > in general. it seems like lots of others are interested in Welshish > things. cool. i thought i was the only one.oh, is Cennydd (the name) > sposta be Welsh, and so said "Seneeth," or not? Oh, yeah, Welsh stuff is quite cool. After all, so many wonderful archetypal fantasy stuff comes at least partly from there (a lot of the Arthurian stuff, and those wonderful Susan Cooper and Lloyd Alexander series...). And I probably should leave this to Cennydd, but I believe in Welsh the "c" is always hard, and the "y" is more of a schwa sound, making it basically pronounced "Kenneth," Cennydd's mundane name. The only way I have been able to visualize (or hear) them is as actors playing in a movie. Whenever I am reading Warrl's input, for some reason I can almost hear him speaking with Jack Nicholson's voice. I also visualize Lord Orthallan as being Jack. Just recently when rereading the Storm trilogy, I began to visualize Sejanes as Sir Alec Guinness, I could almost hear him as Obi Wan from Star Wars. Savil reminds me of Cloris Leachman. When Rolan speaks I hear James Earl Jones (not his Darth Vader voice). That's really all I can think of. Visualization it not my strong point. In StormRising Florian is introducing a group of Companions. One he introduces as his younger sister Idry. With the similarity between her name and a certain Mercenary captain. I was wondering if certain non-Heralds were given the choice of coming back as a Companion. Anyway, To the north of Valdemar is frozen wasteland and the Northern barbarians. To the East past Hardorn is the Eastern Empire, it stretches all the way to the Salten Sea(I believe that was what it was referred to) Way South is the Haighlei Empire. The Eastern Empire buts against it on their South border, and K'Leasha (please forgive spelling) who went mostly west of Dhorisha also ran into it IMO, that means 1 of 2 things. Either, because the world is round, K'Leasha had just gone around it. Or, the Haighlei empire is just that huge. I don't believe any map has been made of the Haileighs or Eastern empires. I agree with you about Tantris being Tran, and there actually is evidence linking Savil to Sayvil in my mind. 1) After Kero is Chosen, she is up on some tower think about what she's going to do, and one of her Skybolts (can't remember which one) comes and says: "Captain, this obsession with heights you have is unnatural." and Sayvil chimes in with : I agree. Feet belong on the ground. now, if you remember, in LHM, Savil had this little problem with heights and she would never go up into Starwind's ekele. 2) In one of the Winds books, Elspeth is talking to Gwena about the Shin'a'in and the Tayledras, and Gwena mentions that Sayvil is familiar with them and trusts them, and I figure there can't be too many Valdemarans who are familiar with the Shinain and the Tayledras. > > >Dancekbg-+AT+-aol.com wrote: > >> Heyla list-sibs! >> >> First my question, for all you non-fluffy people.
