about the bonding...i believe that keren and them were a 3-way bond, and
that van was just a bond, and the powers that be didn't deem van fit
enough to deal with life after stef, so they sent him back as
'lendel...but i could be wrong...

btw: 16, galveston, texas, brown hair that i 'helped with red, now the

could someone please clear this up for me? what are the major differences
in herald-mages of vans time and mages that are chosen afterwards?

Don't know of any (being somewhat (okay extremely) new myself), but by 
all means, if there ain't one, make one! 'Love to see it.  (also would 
love to write it, grumble, grumble - but hey, if I were Misty, I'd

Ah, lassie, say it ain't so!  Just think: if 'Lendel darling _wasn't_ 
reincarnated as Stef, and Vanyel really lifebonded twice, that means 
there's twice the fun!  It is possible he wasn't reincarnated, but (even 
though I hope he wasn't) here are reasons why he probably was:
1. the whole dream thing when Van talks with 'Lendel while Stef is 
asleep - it makes sense ('course it makes it sense either way, but never 
mind)
2. In Mage storm books-- uh oh.  If you haven't read 'em yet, read no 
further!

I've been rereading CotN and I was wondering whatever happened to
Diana's panic attack engergy? With Andre's help she was able to channel
her panic attacks, but nothing is ever said about that channeled energy
after the end of that book. I always assumed that when Dave's spirit
took over Diana after the fight with Jeffries and the band that he some
how healed her or that she had overcome it herself. She would still have
moments of fear and the channeling would work for that too, but nothing
is ever said about it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Any way, on the lifebond thread. . .
There has been some discussion about the personalities of lifebonded
couples. While it is true that Steph/Lendel said that lifebonds are
often a combination of a stable personality and one that is suicidal or
overly emotional that makes a lifebond.  But there are at least two
cases where the two who are in the bond both seem to be incredibly
stable. #1-Tamisin and Cinnabar In BG, both seem very stable, the key
here is that they know who and what they are, Cinnabar came from a
unique family that allowed her the freedom to train her gift and the war
allowed them to be a couple. Tamisin also recognized that they were
special and that other lifebonds ie Amberdrake and Winterhart would be
different. And really with Amberdrake and Winterhart there were two
strong willed but prone to depression individuals. #2-Donni and Mardic
in LHM, again very strong and stable individuals. But they were Savil's
pupils and she gave them the freedom to flurish. Overall I think there
are several types of lifebonds and basically each one was is unique. 


Yech that was a garbled mess, but I am too lazy to fix it tonight :)

I've been posting quite a bit lately so I will try to keep this short.
I think that the reason that the ghost of Lendel/Steph shows up mainly
in Steph's form except for the hair color switching is that he lived
longest as Stephan. I think that the life span would have some effect on
what the ghost would look like. He had lived 70? years as Steph and less
than 20 as Lendel so really the Steph form would have been more natural
to him by then.

to the various countries/regions in Velgarth? I mean like here traditionally 
the Scots are mean (see my .sig), the Irish are slightly thick, the Germans 
law-abiding, the Italians excitable and so on.
Has anyone any idea what some of the Velgarth nationalities might be 
considered as by others?

Thank you, Kiyomi, as it happens I've been there. Unfortunately it seems to be
the ONLY place with fanart anywhere. And a pitiful collection it is too.

Spot on, that's actually the main reason I was asking in the first place. I only
asked just in case there was some tremendous site somewhere that didn't happen
to be on any search engine and that there were no links too ( :P ). Anyone have
any fanart lying around or know anyone with some? I 'm rather surprised that
there's so little on the net. I even went as far as to ransack Elfwood, and out
of the hundreds of thousands there, I found (*drumroll*) ... four. :P

Hmmmm...the only definite ones I can come up with are that IIRC, the
Hawkbrothers are considered secretive and private, and the Shin'ain
barbarians.

I hope that is far enough.
There were so many messages on the Tylendal/Stefan reincarnation thing,
I could not quote them all.  The first time Vanyel and Tylendel/Stefan
are encountered is in WOFury, when Vanyel intercepts the gate Firesong
is building from k'Sheyna Vale  to k'Treva Vale.
The only changes in Stefan is described as "his hair couldn't quite make
up its mind whether it wanted to be blond or red." It did not state how
long he stayed one way or the other.  The second time is in Storm
Breaking when Altra jumps back from Valdemar with the piece of wood that
Vanyel and Stefan will use as a focus.  Karal finds Stef  not to be "any
easier on the nerves (than Vanyel) perhaps because he couldn't seem to
make uphis mind whether to look like a muscular, square-jawed fellow who
was a bit taller than Vanyel (Tylendal), or a slight triangular-faced,
large-eyed lad who was shorter and more slender than the
Herald-Mage(Stef)" Again I find no statement as to how long he stays in
one shape. It does not state that he is in Stef's form longer than
Tylendal's

About the Vanyel dreaming of Tylendal and Stefan is asleep beside him.
Remember in BTS Kerowyn and Eldan sharing dreams.  I believe it is the
same with Vanyel and Stefan.   Stefan does not remember living as
Tylendal, but subconciously he can.  It is there in dreams that the part
of him that does remember reaches out to Vanyel.. I believe it is when
Vanyel realizes that the trip up north with Stefan mirrors his dream of
traveling there with Tylendal that he understands the relationship
betweeen Stef and Tylendal.

Okay listsibs, time for me to get up off my lurking butt and add my .02.

all right! I fold under pressure!  Yes, I think there was a lifebond 
between Keren and Ylsa, and Keren and Sherrill.  BUT I still don't think 
that 'lendel and Stef are the same person.  But then, I have my stubborn 
points :)  It just has never occured to me that they were the same 
person, and in Kethry's words (in Oathbound, not the Keth on-list) "not 
bloody likely" to change m' mind.....I'll reread Magic's Price and see 
what I think then.  It *has* been awhile since I read it.  'course I 
promise nothing.... :)

Oh, and does anyone else think that whoever drew the cover for Bedlam's 
Bard should die slowly and painfully?  Kory is *not* Fabio!

Hmmm.....I don't think it is quite the same, tho I do believe that the fact
that Stef was asleep is significant in the sense than the "aspect of his
soul that had been Tylendel" could take over.

However, in Eldan's case, it seems like the whole dream thing was something
that Eldan consciously did, in order to somehow get through to Kero. It has
never been clear to me what gift exactly was involved there, since I don't
know of any other cases like that.
Kero believes them to be dreams but when they meet after 10 years or more
towards the end of BTW, Eldan pretty much admits it was his doing, IIRC.

Hmm..I guess I am not being consistent, and what Judy meant was precisely
that? That the part of Stef that was Tylendel made Van have that dream and
share it with him?

Guess I should stop babbling.

My .02 on the V,S,&L debate.  What if... <braces for flames> Vanyel
had an influence on the form Stef took after death?  His preferred way
of seeing that form?  

ObMisty:  as all my books are packed, I borrowed a copy of AFlight to
read & was wondering:  Why didn't Rolan speak with Tantris about
getting help for Talia?  (unless she needed to come to that conclusion
herself... guess I just answered my own question <Doh>)

Sorry for the short post but I am 10 minutes away from getting off work.

three weeks.  Do you have any idea how much mail can build up?  I will 
tell you.  I had over 300 messages.  I wanted to cry.  I deleted all of 
them and just wanted to dredge for sympathy.
I'd appreciate a little catch-up note from someone.  
I bet you want to know while I was out of action.  Since I feel like 
whining, I'll tell you.  Every single time I sat down at the computer, 
my mother managed to find something for me to do.  "Katie, go wash the 
dishes."  "Take out the trash."  "Go clean your room."  There are things 
immensely more important than the state of my room. I should think.  But 
it doesn't matter anymore, because mom went in with a plastic bag and 
took all of my stuff anyway.  I'm still trying to figure out how to 
redeem myself because she has the first two books in the Malleorean 
packed away.....  Ok, I think I'm finished whining.

I'm going to go upstairs now and listen to RENT, Les Miserables, or 
Phantom of the Opera until my nerves calm.  My mother loathes 
musicals...::grins evilly::  Uncultured peasant...
Someone please catch me up, and I'll try my darndest to stay up to date.
