No Im actually not in that good a mood but no need to take my Bearish grumblings out on you guys. ***FLUFF(longish)******** A large black rat ambles out of the shadows of the Halls, its lips drawn back in a feral snarl as it hisses and snaps its way to the goodie-laden table. Instead of clambering up on the Table however the dimnutive irritated furball spits a Word of Power, and then cringes as the Word rips his body apart and reshapes it into that of a tall, linx-eyed, raven haired elf-lord clad in deep ebony armor and bearing a wicked-looking blade which shines with a light of its own. A cloak of night-spawned shadow unfurls from the Void and wraps about him as an ancient brooch pin of Si-silver, bearing his Name, and the sigil of his Goddess appears above his left breast. His now booted footsteps are lined with horefrost and grimy with what appears to be mud and blood. The sheer angelic beauty of the Sidhe's face is twisted and stretched taunt in rightous anger and consternation, his thin perfect lips twitch not with amusement but barely repressed rage. He pauses long enough to take a deep centering breath and then sinks unsteadily into a nearby chair, reaching shakily for a tankard of elderberry wine. And only now are the numerous dents and bloody gashes in his armor visable, many still untouched and leaking his Lifeblood. The other fae present can smell the stink of Deathmetal poisoning about him and his angry visage soon passes into a heartwrenching mask of agony. In a gasping breath he whimpers with a slight Appalachian drawl something that sounds like "Couldnt resize the cursed card..." and his pale red eyes close briefly as a spasm of pain washes through his slender body. "So Ah Challenged the blighted machine to a Dance...." He manages to raise the blood-stained tankard to his trembling lips and sip noisily at the wine. "Didnt spect it to *accept*...barely got..Shields...and Vengeance up in time...Goddess Ah hate getting kicked through Worldwalls..." ******End Fluff (Got in a fight with my comp over a new program, it almost won...UGH)** Anywho, my question concerns the website called Valdemar's Hearstone. Does anyone know the site owner?? I sent a piece of art to them for the site and I havent heard anything. The last up date was in Jan of 97 so am I just being impatient or is the site no longer updated? I wonder what permissions she/he had to have to create the Hearstone?? Wonder if I could get permission to create one called The Vale??? *slightly insane giggle* Well I wonder wonder wonder who-who wrote the book...Oh nevermind. Yeah, but I don't think the Companions anticipated Van- I mean, his powers were latent, he didn't have any active gifts until the whole Tylendall/Gate mess. (sorry, quickie delete finger) In the immortal words of Eric Cartman: "Sweet!" To be Chosen. If only!!! I share a bond with a flabby cat a lot of people comment on as being "not normal" While she does not "talk" to me, she talks to me and understands a lot. To share a bond only death could sever, I personally do not feel giving service to my country would be too high a price to pay. Given (as I duck quickly) that Van had to pay the ultimate price of a lifetime of service that ended with him giving up his life to save others. (yes I am a Vanfan) I believe he knew what it would ultimately mean by the dreams (far sight IIRC) he was having about how it was going to be, and even tho some things were different than he saw, he was alone but for 'Fandes in the end. That is why I think in a way Companions and Heralds are life-bonded. You can walk away from a friend and say- "Um...I admire what you are doing but I can not do this" You can not walk away from a lifebond. So in my own longwinded way my answer is YES!!! I WOULD LOVE TO BE CHOSEN !!!!!!! NO MATTER WHAT THE PRICE!!! One common thread thru all the books is that most Heralds do not live long or die in bed, even knowing that my answer would not change. ************************************************************ Knight of the Order of Colors Leader of Knights of White Life-chosen of Chata the Flabby Tabby & Bongo the Blondcat check out my page: http://geocities.com/Area51/Dreamworld/4316 ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Oct 1998 12:24:28 EDT From: mdnewton-+AT+-niner.uncc.edu To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: HELP ME PLEASE!!!! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Message-ID: <009CD188.1069C6FB.52-+AT+-niner.uncc.edu> I am recieving "double messages" when I subscribe to this list. At first, when I thought about it, oh way back when I first read AotQ, I wanted to. I wanted the kind of love and friendship a Companion would have to offer. I was, as it seems many of us are, a loner, an outcast, for whatever reason (I still am, but it gets easier to bear after a while). And I thought this was the answer. Then I read the LHM. And I saw the sorrow and responsibilities, and ultimately the pain, that comes with being chosen, and I no longer wanted to be singled out for that kind of attention. Oh, I could very easily see myself as a Bard, or a page, but not as a Herald or Healer (can't stand the sight of blood). But I've grown up some since then. I won't claim to be grown-up, 'cause I'm not, but since I read LHM for the first time, I've left the house and made the decision to join the military, and now I wonder if maybe having a Companion wouldn't make the kind of life I've chosen easier some times. Okay, so it stayed on topic, and I was wrong. *FLUFF* Uses her unicorn beach towel to dry off, and wonders if anyone has a dryer for her Kitty-Kats? *FLUFF* XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO O X X Jennifer M. ABout the chosen thing, we could match up people with other people randonmly, as in "companion" people and "herald" people, cause I'd love to be a herald.>> Obsidian Rogue said: <<_That_ would be cool. That would definitely be cool. Of course, then I'd be tempted to give the Heralds/Companions something to do, which smacks of fanfic ..... don't drop the idea just because I suggested that. Um,..... wondrous counselors of mist? If we write about us, the listsibs, in Valdemar but don't mention any major characters in her stories is it still illegal? >> First things first: as for a website "where people (like us...yah...) could chose to be a companion or a herald, or a mercenary, like Kero, or a mage or whatever," there is something like that. It is a group called "Queen's Own," with a quarterly (snail-mail) newsletter where the members create personae, such as Heralds, Herald-mages, Tayledras scouts, etc., all with Misty's authorization. I believe that they even meet online, now. You can email the new president of the group, Robin Ready, at HrldSenshl-+AT+-aol.com. You can also contact them through snail-mail at Queen's Own P.O. Box 132 Shiloh, NJ 08353. As for Obsidian Rogue's question about writing about characters in Valdemar, even if they're not the ones Misty has written about...it's still illegal. Misty has copyrighted her world as well as her characters. The only way you can write a story taking place in any of Misty's worlds is to obtain a release form, through the afore-mentioned Queen's Own. For more information about why Misty has chosen to do this, please see the Newbie Fest at http://www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/pers/misty/newbiefest.html Also, a gentle reminder to please include the name of any listmember you quote. Some mail servers do this automatically, while with others you need to type it in manually. In any case, it's just a general courtesy. I hope I answered everyone's questions, if anybody else would like to ask anything else, please feel free to email me or any of the other Councilors of Mist. Zhai'helleva, Autumnwing, a.k.a.
