Sorry, don't know any Valdemar Keeper's page, but there is a web site for Queen's Own Fan Club and the Valdemar Web Ring. If you become a member of Queen's Own, you can choose a personna and when you fulfill the requirements you can be officially known as a "Herald", "Talaydres", etc.. I also have copies of the requirements that I can send anyone interested by email (private please), to get an idea of the requirements. ************************************ Obisidian Rogue: >Um,..... wondrous counselors of mist? >If we write about us, the listsibs, in Valdemar but don't mention any >major characters in her stories is it still illegal? Yep, without permission from Misty herself. Now it isn't too hard to get permission for fanfic, if you are a member of QO or if you write Misty herself. (I've done that and got permission, but never finished the story). ********************************** Daine: >Hey- sorry this is so short, but I need an answer. >Wonderous Counselors of Mist..... >If I MENTION Misty and two of her trilogies (specifically LHM and AotQ)- >just their names, without going into any further detail- in one of my >otherwise-unaffiliated short stories, is that ok if I sent it to be published >or will I have to ask first? If mentioned in that way, then no if it's appropriately attributed and the trademarks and such are there. If it is similar or impacts the story greatly then yes you do. Get a writer's handbook and that will tell you how to attribute things and what you can and can't say.. ****************************** Fluff....... The goddess of elves steps through a gate into the Hall of Mist and glides over to Nicodemus, smelling of cinnamon and hibiscus. "Tsk, tsk. What have you gotten yourself into, my beloved Champion?" She smiles sadly and reaches out a hand to smooth the matted hair from his forehead. "You can't go against dragons of that nature without better armor and finer weapons, such as the "Screwdriver of Doom" and a good "firewall". Magic wraps around him, smelling of jasmine and sounding like laughter, healing his wounds, cleaning the stink of Cold Iron poisoning and renewing his clothing. "There, go forth to fight again. Oh," she says with a mischievious wink over her shoulder. "Next time, duck.." Her red-gold hair stirs in the breeze of her turning form, caressing her, green silk dress swirling in her wake. She waves to the new people, tsks at all the puddles on the floor. "Yvvone, dear, you really ought to clean up the puddles after yourself before the sheep soak it all up and lay around like wet sponges, unable to move from the weight of water in their wool..." Then she heads over to the table for some cookies (can't resist). Durn... Oh well, dislike Elspeth....hmm...not me. In fact, I admire her. With regards to becoming stupid in Hardorn, remember, they are foreign envoys, not citizens. They were not authorized to step in the way Iftel did its gryphons. When one or both said let Tremaine handle it, they were not being stupid, just diplomatic.. I know they acted as a go-between for some Citizens and Tremaine, the citizens requested it of them, they would not have done this without that request. I recall never seeing her act as if she felt she was better than anyone because of her rank (except for Brat stage in AOQueen). She is headstrong and stubborn, me too, so what. ******************************************************************* Alexia/Sabrina wrote: > Can someone explain to me how the Monarch's own companion works... > > I know that when the monarch's own herald dies his/ her companion goes out > to find the new MO... and so on... but I keep getting really confused > because unless the MO companion dies and is replaced by a new grove born I > don't see how this can happen because the MOC would never die otherwise. Yes, if the MOC, but the MO does not, the new MOC will choose the current MO. If the MO dies, but the MOC does not, then the MOC will go and choose the next MO. Usually The MOC will choose someone who is either a full Herald or someone about to finish training. There are only 2 cases that I know of when the MOC has chosen someone who was not. Shavri(a healer) and Talia(child) . And to answer the last, yes the MOC and MO can be killed at the same time, then, as you said, the New MOC will choose a new MO. Okay, I think this has come up before, but if the MOC picks someone who is already a Herald, then what happens to the old Companion of the new MO? That's one thing that has never made sense to me. I mean, Companions die if their Chosen dies, and it's a very strong bond between Herald and Companion. How many people have the strength to have two of these bonds? Or if they break the old bond does it kill the other Companion? That wouldn't make much sense for the MOC to kill another Companion by Choosing their Chosen or to drive the new MO mad because of the two bonds. Measly little headquarters of Canada for World Domination ;) Oh yeah, Yvonne, I give unto you the permission to have the Alberta CfWD headquarters in Edmonton area :) Hehe, this means you can make any Weapons of Mass Destruction (tm) you want and attack other countries on the list with it (j/k those of you without a sense of humour) Aim in the general vicinity of America for the most time though ;) Hey, the Enchanted Bucket (tm) can count as a weapon of mass destruction! *L* But remember, the Sheep Bazooka (tm) is mine, for Saskatchewan. And don't worry, no sheep were harmed in the firing of the Sheep Bazooka (tm) ;-) FLUFF ENDS ********** Yvonne also suggested that Ghost, Tashir's companion was grove born. I think you're probably right there, makes sense, no. The security of Valdemar would be very difficult to keep if Tashir hadn't been Chosen. It would explain his inexperience ('member, Gwena was pretty inexperience too) And I'm just pulling ideas from my head but couldn't Gwena be a reincarnation of Ghost? Whose to say that grove born companions can't change gender when reincarnated. Well, except for MOH's companion. Gwena wasn't a grove born that usually appears and if Ghost was a grove born, his apperance was also very special/important. And maybe when a grove born dies their spirit is reincarnated as the next grove born in that certain position when needed again. Babbling? You bet! ********** On the subject of being Chosen. Yes! It would be a big responsibility but can take anything. My life isn't exactly the greatest and imagine, being Chosen where you'll have a friend who'll always love you *sigh* And I could meet Skif if he was still around. Yeah, I know, major dreaming here but I don't care. I worship Skif. Then there's a tie between Karal and Van for second favorite male characters. What was I talking about again... Oh yeah, being Chosen! So, for those of you who want to be Chosen (and even those who don't) What sort of Magic do you think/want that you'd have? Me? Not a Herald Mage. Slight empathy, strong mindspeeking, tiny little dab of fire-starting (always wanted to hear more about Griffon) and strong fetching. Okay, I'll let you guys answer the question now and I'll shut up. I also think it would be nice to have animal Mindspeech, but that's ok! Fetching could be nice, too. (In bed and forgot your book, anyone?) About being a Herald-Mage: I dunno. It would be a huge responsibility, but you could protect things and ward off things that others can't. In QO, the requirements for becoming a Mage are, for me, virtually impossible!
