I always though that Yfandes was "waiting" for Vanyel. She was "the companion only adult companion that had not chosen anyone in more that 10 years" (or something like that) and in the end she says to Vanyel "I had known we would come to this from the day I chose you". I don't think that he got "shy" like he was until he was faced with the problem of a *herald* taking action against his chosen. It put him in kind of a turmoil/shock that he never thought he'd have to face because Heralds just don't *do* those sort of things. And then, because the shock of the Herald attacking his chosen, and then, he, Ghost, himself, but him in such a state that he had to shy away for awhile. I think what he needed was a mind healer for Companions. I don't think he was grove born. There really wasn't much of a need for Tashir to have a grove born companion, unlike the tradition of the Monarch's Own Companions, or Gwena, coming to Elspeth when it was time for Magic to come back to Valdemar. Tashir just wasn't, no offense, THAT important. If the Mavelans had gotten the throne and access to the node, or if noone had wanted to take the throne after the mess in the palace..... Van seems to think at the end of MPromise that Valdemar would be in serious trouble if Tashir refused to take the throne. I think I would love to be Chosen. It would be a huge responsibility, but it would be worth having a friendship with a Companion. I think it would be cool to have Fetching because I am very lazy and I wouldn't ever have to get up to get something I forgot. I would absolutely hate to have ForeSight or FarSight because I don't want to know what is going to happen in the future, I'd rather find out on my own.
