Yes, I have and I think it suite ML's style, but not the one she used for writing about Velgarth. I rate Children of the Night as one of the novels that I reread when I am too tired to begin a new book. It is (in my opinion) the best of the three books about Diana Tregarde. It has a nice touch of weird romance. I also appreciate the other characters of the book. Usually minor characters don't get much attention, but in this case they are 'sketched' rather well Wind to thy wings Morgaine, the Were-Cat A distant cousin to the Cheshire Cat Member of The Ones In Black "I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Oct 1998 09:16:59 GMT From: "Kalen [One In Black]" <95662014-+AT+-mmu.ac.uk> To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Time line 'n' mini-fluff Message-ID: <3183C4937B6-+AT+-alnilam.mmu.ac.uk> > Well, you aint a newbie, so I can't ~~~SPLOSH~~~ you (Ok, I COULD, but > then you'd get mad) so I guess a hello is going to have to do you!! *Hands > over the cupcake* It's chocolate. ;P > > Yvonne Thanx Yvonne, I don't think I could cope with another soaking. > I was looking at the timeline for Mistys Valdemar books (in the Silver Gryphon) > and correct me if I'm wrong and I will go back to my lurking! The Mage tells Gervase that he can use the magic in the tree to either transform him into a man, or to unlock his potential and make him a Mage. Gervase chooses a Mage. The man who transforms him is a White Winds Mage. Gervase eventually becomes the leader of that group. He did not found the schools as Firesong said. They were already in existence. He was instrumental in guiding them into protective obscurity. There is other proof, In MPrice, Vanyel, Stefan, and Yfandes, are taken in by Kyree. In the Cave there are mage lights that are explained as being the last energies of many Kyree. The colors are indicative of what life work the Kyree did. I do not have that book handy as the series has been loaned out, but I believe green was for healer, I know there was a color for mage and shaman, I just can't remember what they were. ******************************************************************** J/D/H Robertson wrote: > I was looking at the timeline for Mistys Valdemar books (in the Silver > Gryphon) > and correct me if I'm wrong and I will go back to my lurking! I believe the dates given on the time-line, is the beginning of that Monarch's reign. Not the actual time of the story. When it comes to Tarma and Kethry, I do believe they could have been over 100. Kethry said that Mages are incredibly long lived, and Tarma was in very good shape. Look at Savil, if she had not been murdered, she could have lived much longer, and she was over 80. About Tarma's voice, the last description I have seen is in SBreaking. If you haven't read it, It is not much of a spoiler, but if you don't wish to see it go down to the next row of **** Ok, It is described as "hollow" as if coming from out of a well. No description is given about it being rough, so I would assume, that the Star-Eyed has taken care of it. It is like An'desha's and Nyara's eyes. I believe in life, it was a sign of what she had endured and suffered. ******************************************************************** As for being chosen, I have mixed feelings about that. A priestly vocation is one I would be more interested in. I knew someone who had a friend that was setting up a Religious Commune (pagan). I was toying with the idea of asking for an introduction, because I was interested in trying it out. Still am actually. The person I knew moved and I have not seen her in over a year. ******************************************************************** I think that is enough for me. If Magic's Pawn took place during her reign, ten years or so before Randale's reign, and Magic's Promise occured ten years later during Randale's reign, then it would make sense, right?
