Loved it! lovelovelove Sorry, I've just always liked that fairytale. I think it was really well written, and the plot was all neatly tied up without silliness. And that makes a good book to me. I hate it when authors rely on coincidence and deux ex machina to resolve the plot (can you tell they made us read Euripides' _Medea_? icky) Judy Wood: >I agree, wholeheartedly. I think the whole scenario was just a >little too melodramatic, something out of a dime store romance. >Either Dirk or Kris could have gone to the other and straightened out >any misunderstanding. Just remember all the rumors about >Skif and Talia, I'm sure Dirk must have heard those, but he didn't >seem to be too upset about those. I dunno. I thought that was a ridiculous situation, but it made sense. There were reasons for everything. First, Kris had no idea that was what was going on either, and Dirk was trying to be noble (idiot). Dirk and Talia weren't aware of the attraction and lifebond and all until they actually spoke to each other. The original meeting may have planted the seeds or whatever, but Talia was way too emotionally worked up to notice (poor traumatized baby) and Dirk probably saw her as a child. Talia noticed unusual feelings when she watched Drik teach, but she was far to distracted to make them out. And nothing needs be said about when all three were trying to get the arrows from Ylsa's death scene... distractions indeed! Anyway, the rumours about Skif and Talia wouldn't have affected Dirk because he didn't know about the lifebond; it hadn't affected him yet. And Dirk honestly thought it was love between Kris and Talia. Kris would rather ignore women if he can (note the way he avoided the court beauties) and he gave that big speech about not settling for anything less than a lifebond. So Dirk had cause (small but there) to think they were together. He decided to be noble and torture himself, which only made everything worse. Anyway, that's way too much babbling from me. But they were samrter than animals..perhaps the comprehension of a small child-they are intellegent, but can't quite put ideas together to make strategies and stuff. Oh dang it, someone else answered and I don't get to look near as smart. Amy Trujillo: >In the Winds books, Starblade is forced to take the crow which is >Falconzbane's creature. I always wondered why the other bondbirds or >the Tayledras themselves did not notice the difference. Did the bird >have some sort of spell on it or was it just the fact that after all >the turmoil with the hearstone exploding no one noticed? The other birds didn't like it. Message-ID: <59352976.3622ed5f-+AT+-aol.com> I thought that Stefan/Lendel business was a bit smarmy. It's with the second book the character Vanyell realizes the reason he can love is because he can care. I thought Vanyell's growth at that moment was terrific. Then ML decides to reward him with Stephan. It was too cute, defiantly. I was trolling (no offense Muranog) the archives and found my first post, and reread some of the posts that I remember lurking and reading and have found that....I have just passed my three year point on the list!!! (August, first month of Lurking (I think), October 1st 1996, first post). Wow! Its been great guys and gals, here's to the next three years!!!!! In honor of the anniversary, I have decided to re-post my very first obmisty: >On the question of whether I'd go live in a fantasy universe- Like most >people said, it would depend on who and what I could take with me. But >What if that fantasy universe were here e.g. LA Elves, Masquerade.. would >you embrace them or freak out thinking you were going insane? In answer to my own question: I would hope that I wouldn't completely freak out. But, Eric did have a pretty normal reaction when he figured out about Kory. (grab the ears and try to yank them off, wonder if someone was trying to get you). Most of the humans that figure out about the elves, seems to take it in stride, ala (the woman in (total brain stop here...must go look at books....), ah yes, "Born to Run" (it was a real bummer that she didn't get to stay with Al), the engineer in "Wheels of Fire", (Okay, just looked at books again, strike above and reverse it. Engineer in BtR, woman in WoF) Beth, Joe (okay, Joe had reasons to believe in strange stuff). But there's also the people who seem completely oblivious to strange happenings, I hope I would not be one of those either. I think after the initial shock, I would welcome them and find out what on earth (pun intended) brought them to my doorstep. *grin* Walk lightly, Dax the Eternal, Goddess of Elves and Unicorns, Knight of Fluff Evangelist of Low Humor, Mistic Watcher of Continuity, Councilor of Mist Come visit: http://homepages.infoseek.com/~dakorillon/dakorillon.html "A Dax will always recognize another Dax and will want to party with them." Yea, I read them...... they're really good - but it feels like DA was on some kind of trip the whole time..... in fact, he supposedly wrote one book while listening to the same record (it was record back then, wasn't it?! My, my I must be getting old!)) all the time. Guess thats enough to make you just slightly crazy..... I love flolloping mattresses!! I really liked 'Lendel and I thought Stef was a real good character also. I'm a Romantic [capital R], so the idea of love returning from death struck something in that side of my character, but after events of this year I'm at a stage where I believe that love only causes pain. Looking back over LHM it is shown there also: 1]Gala loved 'Lendel but after he went insane she killed herself 2] 'Lendels love for Gala brought him back from the brink and then he killed himself because of the loss. 3] 'Lendels suicide caused Van to try and kill himself and then to shut out any other person who tried to get close to him. This is all JMHO. Don't let is cynical old Queen like me influence how you feel. [Sorry this is a downer but I heard this morning that a gay student was killed in Wyoming{sp?} this week because of his sexuality. This has really got me in a negative mood.
