Umm, the one that springs immediately to mind is The Fire's Stone by Tanya Huff the main character Aaron is a suicidal thief who blames himself for the death of his cousin. Others might be The Isle of Glass the first book in Judith Tarr's The Hound and the Falcon trilogy, the main character Alfred is semi suicidal about being an elf and presumably a damned creature. Louis might be a consideration in Interview With A Vampire. Some one recently mentioned Feist's Tsuarrani series those books deal somewhat with ritual suicide in the face of dishonor as part of the culture. Fire Rose mentions suicide briefly, Rose considers suicide in the face of her problems. Umm... all the others that I can think of were mentioned by other people already. I thought that the whole problem with Kayla was that an Hispanic gang, an African American gang AND a unsleigh prince wanted her healing abilities for themselves. If I remember correctly, the evil elf even sent her underhill to the court of the Unsleigh Queen at one point. I always thought that they actually transformed because they were the same type of steeds that the Serrated Edge series had and they became cars and vans and things that would be very hard to do with just a glamour. Namely myself. So here's the deal. As far as I know there is nothing against homosexuality in Islam. Having lived in Saudi Arabia and visited Mecca itself multiple times, I understand(even though I was too young at the time to know of such things), that homosexuality is fairly culturally accepted. If you've heard any Islamic people crying out things like "fags will burn in hell" then it's purely due to personal prejudices and has nothing to do with religion. In fact, Islam as a religion forbids saying stuff like that about any race, religion, etc. and I'm positive it includes sexuality as well. As for this Muslim, I'm totally open minded on the subject. Not all Christian or Jewish people are anti-gay, and neither are all Muslims. In fact, I doubt more than a fraction of any religion are. People are people, regardless of beliefs. Thanks for putting up with the fluff!!! Too bad more people can not be the same. And if you can't vent to your friends, who can you vent to ? OB Misty: I hope she writes more about Karse. I liked the Firecats and think the story can go pretty far. I loved Altra I guess cuz I have had cats all my life. And she has a pretty good insight to the attitude of some cats I've known. >Date: Fri, 16 Oct 1998 13:35:32 +0100 (BST) >Reply-To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk >From: "Kalen [One In Black]" <95662014-+AT+-mmu.ac.uk> >To: bongokitty-+AT+-hotmail.com >Subject: Use Of "Valdemar" languages/Fluff > >~~~~Fluff~~~~ >Through the Hall of Mist Kalen strides, His face set in a mask of >rage but on closer look there are tears running down his cheeks. >He stops before the Tree, drawing his Sword he stabs it into the >ground and kneels and rests his head on the pommel [sp?]. > >"From today I pledge to fight to end the crimes of hate, not only >against people who are shay'a'chern like myself but against anyone >who is attacked for something which is beyond their control." > >Kalen stands and and pulls his sword out of the ground. It has affected far too many people. It is too bad that we can not do in real life what we can do here. I read about the tree and went and got one to plant in honor of Matthew. It is my little way of saying I am sorry humans can be so monsterous. ************************************************************ Knight of the Order of Colors Leader of Knights of White Life-chosen of Chata the Flabby Tabby & Bongo the Blondcat check out my page: http://geocities.com/Area51/Dreamworld/4316 ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Oct 1998 00:26:30 PDT From: "Tea'la S." Whoever was looking for some sci-fi books w/ suicides in them- howzabout Guy G. Kay ? IIRC The Finovar Tapestry had some suicides of a type in them. Also Tigana had an attempt too. ************************************************************ Knight of the Order of Colors Leader of Knights of White Life-chosen of Chata the Flabby Tabby & Bongo the Blondcat check out my page: http://geocities.com/Area51/Dreamworld/4316 ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Oct 1998 15:28:19 +0800 From: Silveyrna To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Book report & Names Message-ID: <36299893.4FF4E3D3-+AT+-geocities.com> About the book list: I just remembered, Polgara the Sorceress and all of 2 lines in where she considers suicide after Beldaran's death.I can't remember if she was in that age group then. But Eddings is so crappy with emotion that is really sucks. You may want to think hard before you include it. To whoever mentioned it, Mpromise is prolly out but Mprice is definitely in. Stef tried to poison himself. I was just curious, but how do you pronounce Tylendel? I do it 'tee-lern-dehl'. Is Elspeth a RL name like Mary or Jane? A few years ago I named my first kitten Elspeth, (after the books of course!) and my mother said, "huh, friend of mine had an aunt named Elspeth." Also, there is the name "Elsbeth."
