But I have to say, between the three sets so far, I'm a bit confused about
the geography of the land.  Where White Gryphon was founded compared to
where the Hawkbrothers live, the Black Kings, and Valdemar, etc.  Is there a
book, like an encyclopedia to the world of Valdemar, or even a website with
maps to all the books?
Some of the books do have maps in them, however I can't seem to remember which ones do and which ones don't.  If you get a chance, go to your local bookstore or library and glance through the first few pages of books published after LHM and you'll find what you're looking for.
You know the page that was posted? http://www.godhatesfags.com? well, i went
there, and  went to the host site at http://www.megsinet.com and checked the
list of it's customers. the site is not there on the list. I'm as outraged as
you people are, but I can't just write to the email addy since the site wasn't
listed on megsinet. can the person who sent the mail please tell me why? It's
still on the web, so they couldn't have stripped it off...

I don't know where/if megsinet.com fits into all of this (or if they dropped the site and it was picked up by 1stamendment.com) but at least we have names and addresses to complain to.

My apologies to everyone for being off topic with that, but since we had already been talking about it I didn't think too many people would mind. :-)

I recently read Tanya Huff's "Quarters" trilogy ("Sing the Four Quarters", "Fifth Quarter", "No Quarter"). The vast majority of the characters in these books are shaych. Then, there are always science fiction books in which alien species have an indeterminate (or variable) sex. This doesn't exactly qualify as homo- or bisexuality, of course, but it's pretty close. :-) A few that come to mind off-hand are Niven/Pournelle's "A Mote in God's Eye" (and its sequel "The Gripping Hand"), and LeGuin's "The Left Hand of Darkness". Both "Mote" and "Left Hand" are absolute classics, and should be on everyone's readling list. "Gripping" isn't as good as "Mote", but it's worth reading if you really enjoyed "Mote". -- "Daddy, why do those people have to | Greg Wooledge use Microsoft Windows?" | wooledge-+AT+-kellnet.com "Don't stare, son; it's not polite." | http://www.kellnet.com/wooledge/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 21:36:16 EST From: CDyeboston-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: short stories Message-ID: <8b705293.36392620-+AT+-aol.com> Silveyrna (Sp?) wrote: >I wish there'd be a collection of her short stories. My grandfather was a groundbreaking eye surgeon, a terror behind the wheel, generous to a fault (he gave all his possesions away,) good at telling jokes, and patient when at the age of five, I "did his hair" for him....(yikes!), and he was gay. He married my grandmother right before world war II, when getting married was something that everyone did, even though he was attracted to men.....(my grandmother would whisper this to me over coffee). I didn't know my grandpa was gay when I was little. I knew where he would hide the chocolate and gifts that he brought. I knew that he liked to play sinatra in the car. My mother didn't know that he was gay either. Grandma knew, but didn't tell anyone...and when a family friend "outed" him to his children, (I was in middle school at the time), my mother stopped talking to him. The jovial man I loved so much stopped coming over. My mother would hang up on him when he called. I missed his calls....."How are my girls?," he would always ask...... I wasn't allowed to speak to him.... A few years ago, he died in a nursing home of a stroke. Alone. I hate my mother for that, even though she's dead now too....."How could you?" I ask the air around me. I also hate myself....I could have done something....I could have found a way to keep in touch....I loved him afterall. Gay people are just people....like anyone ...I think that is why Misty writes about homosexuals, to make clear that they are real people, that they could be anyone you know, that they love, live and die....that you needn't be afraid of them, even though they are different than you... . And the scripture that drives people to hatred.....that condemns homosexuals...I refute it....I do not believe! I will not believe....if that makes me sacreligious, so be it. Love cannot be wrong..... sigh, I need to go to bed...and I need to cry a little too, I think....
