Now that I'm back on the list, I'm afraid you're going to be hearing a lot from me - please don't get TOO sick of me yet. I'll try to keep the pointless chatter down to a minimum. Down to business Kenneth Alan Hyde wrote: I think that it's probably possible, from what I understand of healing (although Misty never really goes into the logistics of how it's done). As I understand it, the healer first uses healing oversight to assess the problem, then uses healing energy from themselves to "manipulate" things around. Poof! Problem solved. If they can use energy to do this, I don't see why they couldn't use it to move around the little DNA structures or whatever genetic engineering involves (this is a subject I'm afraid I know precious little about). Although even if they could do it, I'll bet it violates some oath or code of honor to be screwing around w/ DNA. Tylendel Dotzauer wrote: I hate to be the bearer of bad news (although this is just my humble opinion) but I don't feel Owlflight is up to Misty's usual caliber of work. As I remember, it never caught my interest because the writing just sort of floated around aimlessly and never settled on a clear, interesting problem for the characters to deal w/ and solve. Or maybe I too am guilty of comparing ever book I read to LHM (which, of course, was truly excellent writing. The only book I found that I feel is comparable is The Earthsea Quarted by Ursula K. Le Guin) Someone (I think it was Sorana Shadowcat) used Lorenna Mckennit lyrics in her signature. I would just like to take this moment to identify myself as another loyal Lorenna Mckennit fan. Book of Secrets is my favorite (The Visitor runs a close second). I seem to remember that Sorana Shadowcat also identified herself as a herald trainee. I'm just wondering - how did you get that title? Kalen (One in Black): *hug* for your truly terrible ordeal. Okay, that's it (for now - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!) :) -Willowsong P.S. I knew who it was, I just forgot the name. I think the biggest thing about Heralds and their gifts is that a gift does not appear and the person is not Chosen unless that gift will be needed. The best example of that is Griffon, he was the first firestarter in generations because he was needed to defeat Ancar's demons. If there was need for a mindhealer or healer Herald one would be Chosen. Willowsong said: > Someone (I think it was Sorana Shadowcat) used Lorenna Mckennit > lyrics in her signature. I love McKennit, I can listen to her songs for hours. I also love Steve McDonald's Sons of Somerled. It is really similar musically and the theme is Scottish mythology/history. It is really, really good. I found it in the Firebird catalog, he just came out with the sequal Stone of Destiny and it's pretty good too, although I have not listened to it as much. Okay, sorry, I'm just feeling kind of stressed. Do you think the Collegia gave anything like mid-terms? <> I do believe that psychic powers are real, but I have to say that many palm-readers don't read your palms, they read your eyes, your face, your body language. Now, as for psychic powers....I have a theory about telepathy and empathy. I think that every human being -- maybe animals and plants, too -- are all connected by this link in our minds. Picture it like a blue stream of thought and emotion running through the back of your mind. Sometimes the thoughts or feelings leak from the stream into our minds. That's why two people can have exactly the same great idea a continent away. It's stronger when you know someone, because the pattern of your mind and theirs alter slightly once you get to know them, so that certain parts match up ever so slightly. Some people are more sensitive to the stream than others: for instance, say such a person is at a dance with lots of other people. They just touch the surface of all those other thoughts and emotions without actually intercepting or even perceiving them. It can be too much to handle, and they get dizzy. Or at a major sporting event, a more sensitive person would get a heady feeling from not only their own excitement, but that of everyone else in the crowd. Again, some people can deliberately tap the stream, choosing the psychic "spring" of the person whom they focus on to read their thoughts and emotions. Some of these can insert their own thoughts and fellings into the mind of their focus. Telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and other physical manifestations of psychic ability are much the same, but instead of manipulating the stream of consciousness, it involves the personal energy each object possesses. Matter is made of electrons and protons moving around inside atoms, which creates energy. Just as one personality may be stronger than another, so may one person's energy field may be more powerful than those around him or her. This person might unknowingly affect the energy of other things, or perhaps even do it on purpose, "it" being anything from healing to setting on fire to levitating. And that's my theory. < generally funny? Well, Magic's Pawn they had the serious role for the most part, but Magic's Promise they seemed just _so_ comical! :-)>> They are. Not so much stimulating cell growth, but I can imagine using Fetching to help close a wound, etc, by causing cells from adjacent areas to move into the gap and stay there.
