Yet another braid of long windedd, all important and deep insights to stuff. :) On Weather Patterns: I love the wind. That's my fav. When you get a really strong wind going, and it run's it's icy fingers through your hair and you just feel energised and wild and ready to do anything. Rain I love too, but not as much. It makes me feel heavier and I like to curl up in a quilt next to a window and read. Snow - really big, fat soft flakes is very relaxing, but DRIVING in snow is a pain. Not only do you have to be super-careful, but ... the snow is ... just so ... hypnotizing ... On Psychic Powers et all: Yes. I do believe. There's just too much that can't be explained. And when you see complete people walking around you but when you turn and they're not there ... well, lets just say that yes, I believe. No deja vu experiances. I've had precognition about meeting ppl before, but that could just be common sense (or senses). (notes appear in my inbox that fade as soon as I read them, my books disappear, and there's no Keren to notice) anyway, it seemed some people were confused by the Vows and Honor covers on the color of Tarma and Kethry's eyes. a bit of advice: Never Trust Cover Art. actually, this is a pet peeve of mine. I dislike cover artists as a breed, because judging from their work, they never read the books they illustrate. Tarma's eyes are definetely blue, as all Shin'a'in, Tayledras, Kaled'a'in, ect. have blue eyes, and there's several quotes about her ice blue eyes (which I feel too lazy to look up at the moment); and Kethry's eyes are definetely green, as there are also many quotes to this effect (which I also am too lazy too look up), and Tarma's nickname for her is Greeneyes. also, Kethry's hair is definitely red, or amber or auburn or whatever, and on those covers she is a blonde. the most charitable explanation is that the covers are showing her when she had that illusion to catch the bandit, which would also explain the eyes. it's highly unlikely, though. also, when did she ever dress like that, from the Oathbound cover? she wore a traveling sorceress' robe, not a low cut dress. final complaint: Need has a plain hilt, not like the one shown. sorry, please forgive this rant. I promise not to go into the other covers (at least not right now). some people mentioned Loreena McKennit. I really like her, and someone else to look up is Maire Brennan, an Irish singer who does Celtic-style music that's really good. sorry, that was rather longer than I'd thought. -Ambermoon ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Nov 1998 22:53:01 PST From: "Oceania Angels" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Stuff Message-ID: <19981108065302.10327.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Heyla everyone! Really, > I'm not sure that the barbarian threat was even worth writing about. Personally I liked the fact that the plot of this book did not seem so bloody desperate. The last two trilogies have pretty much been along the lines of Oh No, the mage storms/Ancar/Falconsbane is going to destroy Valdemar/the Vale, What Do We Do? Then people run around desperately trying to find a solution before Falconsbane takes over/Valdemar is attacked/the storms hit etc. In Owlsight the main characters actually have control of the situation. As far as I can see this is probably more realistic the trained scouts saw a potential problem (the barbarians), they reported that problem and the leaders took action avoiding a serious confrontation and saving lives. The threat of a plague was very serious and a possible invasion was serious. I was just very glad that this was a situation where humans were the deciding factor. Yes the ghost cat stops the fight, but still it is the planning of the Valdemarans and Hawkbrothers that saves the day. I agree with the above above the above (whoever wrote that, sorry). Remember when whatsisname healed Van? Scar tissue formed, then healed over. So the accelerated growth holds. As for fetching, nuh-uh, can't do that. Cells aren't mobile that way. We're not made of plasticine, you know. Also there is the problem of moving something on a microscopic level. Is Valdemaran science advanced enough to have the theory of cells? I know they know about germs, but cells? Although, I also agree with Amy when she said " As far as I can see this is probably more realistic the trained scouts saw a potential problem (the barbarians), they reported that problem and the leaders took action avoiding a serious confrontation and saving lives." My biggest complaint is, as usual, with Larry Dixon's artwork. Keisha looks good, as does Darian, Firesong, and Lord Breon. Kerowyn, however, looks like a milkmaid on prozac. Shandi, who in the book is described as looking just like her older sister, Keisha, looks nothing like her at all. With a face like that, I am surprised that she had all the suitors that she did. All in all, I did like Owlsight. Most of the characters were well written. The plot could have used a little boost here and there, but for the most part moved at an ok pace. The transition between the Keisha and Darian parts were no more rougher that the transitions between Darkwind and Elspeth in WOFate. I guess that's all for me today. Back to lurking.... The Arrows and Winds were good trilogys in my mind. In Arrows the whole world of Valdemar is started because it was the first written, there are little places were you can tell. It starts with Talia who is a Holderkin girl turning 13. Her 'family' decides that it is time for her to get married. The Holderkin didn't approve of Heralds,so it was pretty awful when she said she wanted to be one. She ran away and hid and cryed. Then Rolan shows up. She knows next to nothing of Companion's Choice,so she gets on and proceedes to 'return to the Herald he ran away from' Talia doesn't have Mindspeech, her gift is Empathy which shows up later. She had the 'Moment' when Rolan Chose her and Spoke to her heart, but he 'made her forget until she was ready to remember' *if any one knows why he did it,it's one thing I can't understand...* Anyway,it turns out that Rolan is the Monarch's Own Companion, and Talia is Chosen to be the new QO. The Heir-who-might-not-be-Heir is Elspeth. Talia is needed to tame 'The Brat' or else Elspeth will never be Chosen, and never be Queen. It turns out that Elspeth is under the influence of her Father *wicked man to tried to kill the Queen*'s nurse,Hulda. Anyway,I'll stop now because this is becoming rather Loooong!
