It's been a long time since I've been around (Ok, only about a week, but I've been SO busy!) I'm going to try not to respond to much because I've been away for so long that I'm very behind. At least the mail back up is still in double digits! Someone is getting the newbies for me, so I'll hold off on that till I know whose been....welcomed and if anyone was missed. Everyone is talking about Sun and Shadow, so my 2 cents.... I really think that she should and that the sad ending is ok. I like sad endings. And could it really be all that much worse than the Vanyel books? And those are at the top of the list of favs around here... I really enjoy tragedies... I can watch Act 5 of Hamlet over and over and over and over... And I drive my friends crazy because I actually get into Shakespearean tragedies...gods forbid that I enjoy literature! I'm rambling... I would basically enjoy reading the story. And I'll shut up on that one now. Oh, the order of the Serrated Edge books doesn't really matter. Even the ones with the same characters (I think Tannim is the only one central in multiple books. That was a mouthful) aren't dependant on each other. So don't worry about reading them out of order. I don't like to read books out of order either. I absolutely passionately hate it when I'm in a bookstore and I see a really interesting book that just so happens to be book 14 or so. Arg. This is not fair. I've been on the computer for 15 minutes and I already have to get off. I've only gone through a dozen messages or so... There are times whem my mother aggravates me no end. But she's sick so I'll forgive her... this time! (don't take me too seriously, I'm feeling really goofy tonight) Wind to thy collective wings, And good night. While they're certainly not Misty material, and the deficiency of females in all his books kinda pissed me off, he still has his own style and I really enjoyed reading the books-- The Druid of Shannara I believe is the hardest read, it took me forever even though it's a really short book. BUT I'd like to point out for all Misty lovers who haven't seen them, there is Elvenbane and Elvenblood that Misty wrote with Andre Norton. Actually Elvenbane was the first book I had ever read by Misty and that led me to find LHM and get into this whole thing. But those 2 books have dragons and elves galore, if that's what you're looking for. They're both good reads although Elvenbane is definitely the better of the two. Starman: >Before you condem his work, try reading them. Don't base >your opinion on an animated series that he knew nothing about >nor had any control over when they were made. I agree. Well, my name(s) may *look* Tayledras, but then again, that style of name isn't at all uncommon. MorningStar is my name from an interactive story I started (I think before I even started to read Misty's books) and ShadowDreamer is a name from an IRC channel I frequent... no connection, again, to Misty's books. I just like the names. :) Elsa writes: > I thought it was inappropriate to use Misty's names at all (like >Ashkevron and Kethryveris; she can't copyright Eric), but I may be wrong. >Whadda ya mean, 'official fan club'? Is there something I'm not being told? Well, there's the Queen's Own fan club thing, where you can officially create characters and get a form to be potentially able to write fanfic, and all kinds of stuff. I am NOT the person to ask for info unless you're willing to give me time to look it all up again... I'm sure someone on here could tell you better than I. Elsa also writes: > While I'm on the subject, it seems to me that the term "hawkbrothers" >isn't exactly PC. Why not "hawk-kin" instead? *sigh* Because this is the way >Misty wrote it. I know, I know. Though that would make an interesting twist >of words for an alternate universe-type story.... Well, IMHO, it's because that's the version that the outlanders called them... The name Tayledras and Tale'edras(Shin'a'in, of course) seem to translate closer into hawk-siblings or somesuch...but people giving other groups of people names are *rarely* accurate or pleasant. Well, folks, that's about all I have to say at the moment. I know you don't hear from me often... well... I'm sorry about that, but I keep getting knocked off the list for some reason (I guess it doesn't like my e-mail address very much.) In another few days I AM SWITCHING MY USE-NAME! That's right, MorningStar will be known as ShadowDreamer on this list. I'll probably change my e-mail address at the same time. This one will still work, and my new one already does. It's ShadowDrm-+AT+-usa.net and obviously, I'm changing to go with my new name. Maybe that will work better. Please bear that in mind, that the next time you guys see me, I'll probably be under the different name. I'm still running the OOUH web page and such. Please check your entry if you're a member. The site is listed below, in my sig. Known to one and all as MorningStar, soon to be called ShadowDreamer Mindmate to the tawny eagle Ryia! However, (I know this contradicts what I wrote earlier today, but it has more textevd) on page 64 of AotQ it says: "...said the girl, a little of about seven with chestnut, blue eyes, and a rather disagreeable expression..." This is from Talia's first meeting with Elspeth. I know someone on the list said that it could have to do with the fact that young children have blue eyes that change color as they get older, but I think that seven would ba a little old for that. Anyway, so according to the books, her eyes went from blue to brown to blue-grey? I think that there's a Mistyake in there somewhere. "Heyla all, just needed to take a break from RL.......Boyfriends are sometimes more trouble then they are worth. Anyway, welcome Astriel! I hope you enjoy it at the list, and watch out for splooshers. Anytime you are confused, just ask one of the nice people with "Councilor of Mist" in their sigs and/or consult the Newbiefest (does *anyone* have the addy lying around?????). Hope to hear from you often!" With that, the woman sends flurry of tie-dyed silk scarves in the direction of all the newbies, and then decides to wander out to the gardens, accompanied by a glowing fire that, close up, proves to be a small salamandre. ********************************/fluff******************************** MistyStuff--- I think it was Silvernya who responded to my rant on Jody Lee's cover art; thank you for clearing that up! I love Ms. Lee's work, and I can understand why it's not exact. Just finished rereading Owlflight and LOVED it, it was even better the second time around! I believe I shall go to the Library (which is "temporarily" closing in February instead of this week--yay, a few more months!) and see if they have Owlsight.....oh yeah, and I want to try to limp my way through Storm Breaking......mmmmmm, books........ *holds up sign saying "I love Snowfire, Hweel, Starfall and Kelvren! Especially Snowfire!"* Oh yeah, and I figured out a Hawkbrother hairstyle--I braided a small section of my hair and twisted silver wire strung with crystal beads round the braid, ending it in a feather. It looked okay, not great......just thought I'd mention it.
