Sorana says upon being hit with a snowball. Then she laughs and sends her next snow balls at Elsa. Elsa avoids them with ease, and Sorana smiles ruefully. *I never was very good at hitting people with snow balls. Oh, well.* She makes another snowball, puts a target spell on it and throws. "Hey, Yvonne! Catch!" Then her attention is brought back to the close-range snow-ball fight and she starts flinging handfuls of snow about. >~~~~~~~~~~~END FLUFF~~~~~~~~~~~ > If this isn't a testament to the effectiveness of all you Listsibs out >there when you put it to yourselves to cheer someone up, I don't know WHAT >is!!!! ^_^ Hmmm....A purple elephant? Obviously I am not talking about the standard pickpocket and I am discounting the influence of police problems (in Italy it is something like "too many of them, too few of us"). To be a successful criminal you must be smart, or you get on the wrong side of a prison door. OBMISTY: I have just finished "Owlflight" and I am moderately happy. It looks a bit like a juvenile (Angie said something along this line and I agree), but it is the closest thing to the Misty I come to love in the Arrows trilogy that I have seen in the last few years. The plot is not a novelty, but it is well built and there are a few folkloristic notes that I appreciated (for example the characterization of the non human folk) Wind to Thy wings and mint flavored chocolate sheeps Morgaine, the Were-Cat A distant cousin to the Cheshire Cat Member of The Ones In Black "I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 07:11:50 PST From: "toni kelly" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Tam Lin Message-ID: <19981120151151.3256.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> >book recommendation: everybody, try out this book...tam lin, by pamela >dean. if you've heard of the ballad of tamlin, you'll know the general >storyline is, except this time, its rewritten in a rural college >setting...beautiful writing, intriguing storyline, characters that made me >want to cry and take shakespeare for two semesters. had to be pretty good >to do that ;) very high fantasyish, but very good. Heyla. Just had to add my 2 cents. This is an excellent book -- if you can find it. I practically have to keep my copy under lock and key due to people trying to snatch it. It's not that I wouldn't be willing to loan it out (provided I got a written promise, signed in blood, that the borrower would guard it with their life), it's just that the one's who have asked to read it have made it clear that if it ever came into their possession, I would never see it again. Oh, before I forget, it is part of the Fairy Tale Series edited by Teri Windling. Other books in the series are Snow White and Rose Red by Patricia c. Wrede, and Jack the Giant Killer by Charles deLint. Both are quite good. There are others, but I can't think of the titles at the moment. ObMisty: If you wanted to introduce a person to Misty's books, and wanted to do it gently, what would you start with. I was thinking of loaning her the FireRose since she expressed interest in reading something by MIsty after seeing me with a copy, but I am open to suggestion. Well, gotta run. I'm shopping for new book shelves today. Mine are overloaded almost to the point of breaking, and all of my books are going to end up on the floor if I don't do something fast.(Is there by any chance a deity of overflowing book shelves one could apply to?) First, a short walk into Fluffdom: *** *fluff ahead* *** Torell, the Snowman, works his way out of the snowball that Sorana had thrown. With a mishevious (how do you spell that?) grin he circulates his fingers and a cascade of uncold snowballs rain down on Sorana. Then he hears Shadowblade's request for snow and *PLINK* one single snow crystall softly floats down in front of her eyes. While she still admires its perfect shape and glittering look, Torell hurls one of his infamous Splatter-Balls towards her. It hits her right on the shoulder and dissipates into tiny uncold and dry particles. Next thing, he grabs a bowl of thick chocolate sauce and heads for the pools. In one of them he finds what he was looking for. Careful and silently he glides into the warm water and, with the bowl balancing on his head, he swims over to another Newbie. "WELCOME FIREDANCE!" he shouts, surfacing directly in front of the poor creature and dumps the whole bowl onto her. ********* fluff end ********* Shadowblade wrote: > btw, did anyone catch the leoneid (sp?) meteor shower last night? :) I tried, > but there was this annoying rain cloud... Yes, I did! I spotted two meteors' falling! Stefan, my boy-friend, wanted to see the meteor shower because he was born when they came round last time (well, approximately). (Hmm, does that mean, we were born on the same day, me only 3 years later?) And she wrote: > Yes, there is a similarity back there... many of the better characters had > Ordeals quite similar... Oh dear, don't tell me that the same is going to happen to Karal! First book: is initiated, was taken from family at young age, looses someone close to him. Second book: is fulfilling his job, lots of self-doubt, but manages to grow from responsibility and task. FAKE SPOILER As I am in the middle of Book 2 of the Storms, here is what I think is going to happen to poor Karal according to the Misty Formuly: will be raped, will be killed, will be reincarnated! Argh! Now, that spoiled all the fun for me!!!! But I refuse to believe that this might happen! Yvonne wrote: > What I liked about him was that he had solid REASONS for what he >did. He didn't just decide "Oh, today I think that I shall brutally abuse >my people and take over the neighbouring kingdom beccause of a grudge >that I have kept since they LAST stopped me, which was when I woke up one >morning and decided to take them over but they rfused to lie down and >die." Hey, that is the best interpretation of other villains I encountered in books. Made me double over with laughter! It is absolutely gorgeous. OH, and Yvonne, don't worry about the Newbies. *evil snicker* The JEster got most of them. Too bad only you weren`t around to SPLOSH all the sweet stuff off them. (is this a correct sentence?) ObMIsty: I'm in the middle of the Storms series as you might have deducted from the above. And although I don't find it as interesting or heart-breaking as LHM I still can't put the book(s) down. On the other hand, however, I would like to make them last so that I can enjoy them for a longer time. I really love to meet all those characters from the previous series and watch them with Karal's eyes. LEnds more facets and more colour to them. There is only a handful of books that had me reacting in this manner (i.e. wanting to read, read, read and wanting the books not to end or last forever). One of them was "The Anubis Gates" by Tim Powers, a rather dark fantasy/time travel novel. All the twists in the storyline or little occurances that only made sense half a book later, that had me totally enthralled! Did you ever read books like that, once you could have read for the rest of your life? (Ah, well, make that the rest of the month. You know, too much of something will leave you bored or sick after a while).
