It repeats itself a lot, because used bookstores put things in different orders, but it might help you pick up a book you wouldn't have otherwise. It's not complete, either. I've started most of my friends out with "Arrows of the Queen." It's kind of an odd place chronologically but I think that the trilogy explains the idea of companions and heralds far and away better than any of the other books. It keeps people from getting confused. On the "Owlflight" note, I was very dissapointed by the book. The plot seemed to move very slowly. In the entire book, nothing much seemed to be accomplished. I will give it credit for having some interesting cultural notes though. Sorry, I saved my introduction for the end. This is my first post (I've been watching from the shadows for about a week), and I just want to say Hi! My name's Dahlia and please make me feel welcome or... I... won't feel... welcome. Anyway, Heyla to all! I know, you don't hear from me very often, but I've got some questions: Which colour are the clothes of healers? Heralds wear white, Bards green, but what's the uniform colour of a healer? Is Selenay still Queen after the Mage Storms? Are there months like January, Febuary and so on? Is the collegium of the Healers next to the collegium of the Bards and the Heralds? it'S in the Centre of Haven, isn't it? How gets a Herald usually chosen by a Companion? Does the Companion "say" any certain words to the partner? I hope you can give me some answers! :o) thanks a lot bye, Kerstin :o) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Nov 1998 17:56:08 -0000 From: "Alexia/Sabrina" To: Subject: Re: Some Questions Message-ID: <036501be170a$9b6127a0$5bc828c3-+AT+-i.casale> >I know, you don't hear from me very often, but I've got some questions: Which colour are the clothes of healers? green >Heralds wear white, Bards green, but what's the uniform colour of a healer? bards are red if I remember right... or was it blue? Can't be-unaffliatied students are blue... >Is Selenay still Queen after the Mage Storms? Yes... I don't know for how much longer after the Mage storms... I think she still is in the Owl books... never says differently... >Are there months like January, Febuary and so on? Hm... I don't know... I think they go more by seasons >Is the collegium of the Healers next to the collegium of the Bards and theHeralds? it'S in the Centre of Haven, isn't it? Oooo... map time- there's one at the front of AoQ that shows the position of the different collegia... too tired to go get it though. >How gets a Herald usually chosen by a Companion? Does the Companion "say" any certain words to the partner? Usually heralds come to Haven and the companion goes out to meet them and minspeaks them- always minspeak at the chosing even if never after. I think they have to say' I chose you.' or 'you are my chosen' somewhere in what they say. Well... that's an attempt at my answers. hope it helps! Question of my own: Chrome Circle, Wheels of Time, Bedlam Bard/boyz, Spiritride/Elvendude... is there non consentual sex in any of these ooks?( I know about When the Bough Breaks) BTW new Bard's Tales books: Wrath of the Princes Thunder of the captains Curse of the black heron $3.79 from amazon.com Anyone read them? Mindcandy time!!!!! A lot of the stories can be found in Oathblood, Fiddler Fair... there will be a fiddler faire Two by the way... some time next year. And yes, I'm fairly sure there is going to be 'elvenborn and elvenbred'. I'll try and get a list of which are were at some point. Can't think of anything else so Hi to the newbies and friendly sheep to find you towels and refreshments after being sploshed BTW please forgive me sounding stupid here but I'm sick and the pills have a sedative effect... and the rest is self evident I'm afraid! Actually, healers are green. Bards are scarlet. (Their clothes, that is, not the people.) > Is Selenay still Queen after the Mage Storms? As far as I know, but I haven't read Owl* yet. Don't see why she wouldn't be. > Are there months like January, Febuary and so on? I think so, but I'll leave this to someone with better textevd. > Is the collegium of the Healers next to the collegium of the Bards and the > Heralds? it'S in the Centre of Haven, isn't it? Yes, it is. I think they're all sort of a big collegiate complex -- remember Talia going over to help with Mindhealing in AotQ? > How gets a Herald usually chosen by a Companion? Does the Companion "say" > any certain words to the partner? The Companion looks at the Herald and makes some kind of link (all the references about "drowning" in those blue eyes, etc) and says something to the effect of "I Choose you" or "You are my Chosen" (or, in the case of Sayvil and Kero, "Look out!"). No matter how little mindspeech the Herald has, the Companion always speaks at the moment of Choosing (I think that came from Talia's Orientation class, AotQ). Okay, now my non-Misty tidbit -- somebody brought up, a while back, a line in one of Tanya Huff's books about a detective being sent to "work with Lackey and Dixon on the Griffin case." Same book, main character encounters an inseparable duo named Natalie and Lambert. Anybody else here ever watch "Forever Knight?" (Urban vampire-as-detective TV show, compared to urban vampire-&-co-as-investigators series.) Pop culture references make me happy. There's a lot of reference to that in Magic's Pawn with Andrel's green fur cloak, and in Magic's Price with Stefan being a Bard. >Is the collegium of the Healers next to the collegium of the Bards and the >Heralds? it'S in the Centre of Haven, isn't it? It's all together in the center of Haven, yes... I think in one of the books there is an actual map of Haven, or at least of the collegium. Anyone know? >How gets a Herald usually chosen by a Companion? Does the Companion "say" >any certain words to the partner? In all scenarios I've heard of, the Companion finds the Chosen, and mindspeaks to them that they are Chosen. I find that interesting, actually... I mean, I know the Companions are faster than normal horses, but how would they "find" their Chosen? Wouldn't they have to find food on the way? I guess it's one of those secret things about the Companions that nobody really knows... -ty -from the hizouse, home of the fWo Founder of the Nifty Hair Club and Phreaking Club Puddle-Jumper Extraordinaire, Magic Breeder of Chickens in the Land of Plastic, http://www.geocities.com/paris/lights/8308 ICQ: 20439692 AOL IM: Tylendel33 ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1793 **********************************
