They are Urban Fantasy with a romance writer witch and a lovely vampire (who only appears personally in one book and two short stories). For other collaborations I only read the Bard's Tale books which are based on a computer RPG, AFAIK, and I didn`t like them at all. They were funny in places but so very predictable and - sorry - boring. Cindy added: >If you're willing to do the searching, I think some of the best stuff is in >her short stories. Now, many people have mentioned that compared to Misty's other novels, it seems overly simplistic, almost trite at times. People talked about the ease with with the boy was adopted into the clan, how everything fell together just so just at the right moment, etc. Could it be that this is the first book of hers that we have read that is coming from the point of view of a very young person? Every other book that we have read has been from the point of view of a young adult, or someone with the maturity level of a young adult. Here, our protagonist is a child. A young, traumatized child at that. His adoption was facilitated by his youth: we've been told that the Shi'a'in and the Taleydras both cherish youngsters greatly. Wouldn't that make his adoption easier? Ok, I've rambled longer than I intended to. It seems to me that it's not until something is so good that you're reading, watching, etc., many times that you start to notice all the mistakes. I mean, look at Star Trek. The are books dedicated solely to listing the lack of continuity, the fumbles, etc. No one would know anything about them if they only watched the show once. With Misty's books you have to read them *all* a number of times in order to notice everthing that's wrong. I, personally don't mind them, I just think that she's written, what, 21 books, that are all tied together some way, all of the series out of order, and sometimes writing two or more series' at the same time! Sayvil is just too contrary to pretend she can't. Rolan and the other Companions who won't Mindspeak people who don't have the Gift are playing by a set of unwritten rules. Sayvil is ignoring those rules. Hey, that's not quite fair! Although, maybe Sayvil can do it because she >was/is a mage? My personal opinion is that Sayvil is as care-free and opinionated about the Companions having secrets when they shouldn't as she was opinionated about other things when she was human ;). Imo, Companions have learned how to, if not lie, then carefully craft their words so that their Chosen don't find out the truth about them. It takes outlanders to figure out that they're more spirits than animals. Of course, that could be them allowing their Chosen to be especially dense, too *g*. Perhaps one of their forgotten beliefs, as happened with magery? --- Two questions in regards to the Pelagirs, actually. The first is, do we know how many Hawkbrother tribes there are that have been working on cleansing the lands? That might give a good idea at the progress that they have made in seven hundred years. Also, even though the forest might be cleansed, it can still be called part of the Pelagir Forest, right? From what I gather, there are farmers that move into the cleansed lands slowly, but there are also hertasi tribes that stay within the forest itself. There has been a mass exodus from my dorm, and it's very quiet here as the last stragglers prepare to leave. The good thing, home and mom's cooking, the bad thing, losing internet access and coming home to five days worth of mail oh well, the things i do for turkey *giggle* anyway, this isn't really list relate (please don't flame!!!), but i really wanted to pass it along. My RA has to put together a bulletin board each month and this month she place a cutout shaped like an open hand with each residents name on it. in the spirt of thanksgiving we were supposed to write five things we were thankful for on our hand. we all went a litte overboard and wrote as many as we could fit, but it made me thing of all of the things that there are to be greatful for, by having to write my own, and by reading others. it was a touching exercise that i thought as many people as possible should know about and think about i suppose i should put an obmisty in here shouldn't i? do you think that valdamar has anything comparable to our thanksgiving? (i'm sorry that's cheesy, but it's all i could think of) sorry about the little-misty related post bright the day sweet potato sheep with marshmallow to all fresnel ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1794 **********************************
