I'm close to a break down. But that's ok, because I have the list! Reading and answering mail always gets my mind off these things. I >don't really remember about the others, I'd have to go research, but I'm >sure there're others who have the info on hand. Van was already dead, so dying wasn't an issue for him... I'd always kind of thought that the avatars had destroyed the lil bit of physicality that they had. Is that a word? I think I made it up. Anyway, the Star-Eyed hadn't set any bounds on them, so I don't think that would be it. Although there might have been some unspoken rule. It was just that they had both died because their souls had been messed with, Dawnfire's moving to her bird's body, and Trevalen's being injured or something in his attempt to save Starblade. So their bodis were dead, but they were in peculiar situations in that their bodies had not been injured but the link to them broken. So they were partly in the spirit realms and partly the physical. Just my oh-so-humble opinion.... Florian definitely died. Need's soul was freed but I forget exactly what happened. I think she was the one taking a well-deserved rest. ShadowWolf: >but in Velgarth are demons equal to gods or are they created beings? They hang out in the abyssal planes, but they aren't the equal of gods. T. was approaching god=like powers, but wasn't quite there yet... I would say that they are like the Velgarth gods in that they were not created, but they aren't nearly as powerful. Perhaps they were created on the planes and have their own strange evil gods, who knows. Poor Ty! I'm sorry, anything I'd recommend would make your stomach worse, though it would get well a little faster. Actually, I kind of liked it better. I felt plenty sorry for Darian in the first book. The lack of detailed descriptions of how characters felt allowed for more imagination as to how the characters felt. I was able to identify more because I could put myself in that situation rather than be told exactly how the character felt. Especially when I didn't agree with it. It's easy enough to understand how grief-stricken someone would be losing a teacher that they didn't appreciate. My biggest complaint about Misty's books (and this is just her style, I know) is that they climax and complete in 5 pages. EXCEPT for Magic's Pawn. Well, that's the only one of her books that I can remember not following that. Magic's Pawn is like a rollercoaster in terms of plot. Maybe that's why I like it so much... hmmm... :-) Although I suppose you could argue that the climax didn't come until Vanyel beat Krebain and then it's resolved in about 2 pages with Savil talking to him when he wakes up... but, dammit, 'Lendel counts for something!!! I don't cry my eyes out every time I read that part of the book because it's anti-climactic. ;-) BTW, thanks to everyone who responded to my pleas for stomach/intestinal flu remedies... I'm feeling much better now, I even had a chicken sandwich for dinner so i think everything is back in proper working order! :-) Although one of my roommates and her boyfriend were pretty sick this afternoon as well, so it's probably a 24-hour thing that's going around. Two out of the 11 stories are actually copyrighted 1998. While the rest are copyrighted from 87-95. I also think "Sword of Ice" was copyrighted after 95 but I didn't have enough room to bring it on the ship with me so I'm not to sure. Also I believe their are 4 upcoming books from DAW titled "Rediscovery", "Phoenix and Ashes", "The Gates of Sleep", and "The Serpent's Shadow". Ok, I don't have all the books with me but from what I have and what I remember (sorry it's taken so long to get around to this posting but it takes awhile to scan a dozen books or so) there are only two scenes and one song mentioning/involving demons. The infamous Thalhkash scene in "Oathbound" ,the war scene in "Arrows Fall" (pages 257 - 260), and the song "It was a dark and stormy night" (also from "Arrows Fall"). I don't have "Oathbound" with me but I seem to remember that Thalhkash was trying to become a god by have a large number of worshipers. Which seems to me that demons in Velgarth are not equivalent to gods but anyone or anything with a large and devout following could become one. Powerful Named demons like Thalhkash would have a better chance at becoming one because they could make people believe they where gods with the infernal powers they had already . Worship in mass would shortly follow. Then the ascension to "godhood". Message-ID: <024B2C3CB44ED2118B4B00204804FB460147731D-+AT+-CVN65UEX01> Ok everyone sitting here trying to think of some thing to post, and the first thing I come up with is regarding a Gryphons magic ability. Like I've said before I don't have all the books (namely The Last Mage Wars trilogy, The Last Herald Mage trilogy, and Vows and Honor duology), so some of my information may be incorrect. If I remember correctly in the Last Mage Wars trilogy, the Grypons had a minor ability with spell working, Skan was at least a apprentice level mage. With offensive/defensive combat spells, cantrips the whole nine yards. Yet in The Mage Winds trilogy, the Grypons are said to have a type of earth magic. Which I believe is talked about in "By the Sword". Is the earth magic described in "By the Sword" the same as in The Mage Winds or is it something different? Did the Grypons lose the "real" magic abilities over the course of 2300 years? Or do you think "real" magic is only inborn in a few of them like humans? If so how can they all do the mating ritual spell? Do they have a higher percentage of mage talented gryplets? I would think a created creature of magic would have a higher chance of being mage born. Then again I may be wrong. I mean the Heresi ( sorry about my spelling) have only had one mage that is mentioned in the series anywhere that I recall. Just wondering about your thoughts on the subject, Larry (the One without a neat name) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Dec 1998 05:15:02 -0800 (PST) From: readme To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: The Free Bards Message-ID: <19981204131502.8578.rocketmail-+AT+-send102.yahoomail.com> > Well lets see, "Oathblood" which is a collection of stories about > Tarma and Kethry is copyrighted in 98.
