Here's the text from the website: "Every fandom I've ever been a part of has, at one time or another, had fun with coming up with a "dream" cast to play the characters in beloved books. This endeavor is just for fun and is in no way intended to be serious. As far as I know, the movie rights belong to Misty, and there I imagine they shall remain until a real producer with real money decides to take on the project. The main benefit of this exercise, as I see it, is to compare the visions of characters as the author has managed to create them in our heads with images that we all know from the magical offerings of the big screen that have so enchanted us over the years. This particular version of the project was initiated by the The Vanyel Fan Club so the chosen books happen to be from Misty's Herald Mage Trilogy. " This mailing list has done similiar casting. We did it about a year ago (if there was another flurry of suppositions, I apologize for not mentioning it. I had unsubscribed for a long time.) This is not a movie project. I think Stephen Gately from Ireland's Boyzone is made for the role of stefen. For an example, just from the ones listed here: Taver, Companion to Shavri and later on Jisa, has nary a line throughout the trilogy, so why bother casting him a voice? <> <> Waitaminit, Bastian B. But he can't > be An'desha. Perhaps a young Jack could have done both, but now.... some thoughts - not that I'm stuck on these as the only possible solutions: Mornelith/Andesha: Tom Cruise (okay, I know, but think of him in the Anne Rice movie - he did okay as jaded and evilish). Grown up Skif -- okay, for someone who is much more dangerous than he looks, how about Jackie Chan? Those street fighting techniques... Grown up Elspeth - Winona Ryder? Selenay - Jane Seymour? young elspeth - the girl from the anne rice vampire novel, who was also in little women (unless she's too old now) - or the girl from the recent version of the little princess. okay, I'll have to look some of these names up.... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Dec 1998 22:51:31 +0800 From: "Angie" To: Subject: Re: Movie Project Message-ID: <01be29cc$bc1c6fc0$0100007f-+AT+-heraldtg> :My humble contribution to the 'cast Vanyel' project: Cherif Fortin, Mr. :Ooh-la-la, favored of the Laurell K. He played Marcus on Babylon 5. There is a picture of him at this web address: http://babylon5.warnerbros.com/dld/beings/season4/s4marcus.jpg And I could kind of see Jeff Kober from Kindred: The Embraced playing Randale. But maybe that's just me. I think I have kind of weird and obscure taste in TV shows, and I can't think of anybody terribly famous who I could see playing any of the parts. Oh, and I could see Channon Roe as Vedric Mavelan (from Magic's Promise.) Well, I'm going to stop suggesting things now, and I think I'll leave this discussion to those with more mainstream taste in actors. Oh, and an unrelated little niggly that has been running through my mind since I reread some of the books. It seems that, at least in the Arrows books and By the Sword, there is quite a point made that the characters try to bathe regularly, that their instructors/mentors consider this important. It seems like sort of an interesting thing to emphasize. I'm rambling and I need to go catch a bus, so I'll stop now. L.J.
