I got to wondering the other evening, what do you reckon they do in Valdemar 
(and the rest of Velgarth) for Christmas? I'm assuming they'd have _some_ sort 
of Midwinter celebration!
I'm about to postpone until after New Year, so Merry Christmas and a Happy New 
Year :>

Doesn't it say about that in Arrows of the Queen when Talia spends the
holiday with the old herald with the harp... I remember the harp's name- My
Lady <right?> but I can't remember his name... J something? No... I'm
getting confused here. Anyway most of the herald trainees went home I think
and the palace staff celebrated with a meal, music and dancing.

Re: movie roles... I agree with whoever said that Vanyel should be a
complete unknown. Somehow it wouldn't seem 'right' otherwise because the
actor would be too distinguishable from the character...<I'm not making any
sense>. Di Caprio can at least act <he was SO good in Gilbert grape> but the
American accent might create a few problems<g> as 'Lendel. Nice sort of
Elvenish face though... J. Brandis looked a little like that for a while...
Don't think either one would really do though... Maggie Smith would be a
good Savil... can't remember who someone else suggested but I liked that
too<g>. Emma Thompson wouldn't be bad as Selenay. Kate Winslet could do
Elspeth quite well <she was very self-centred as Marie-Anne in Sense and
Sensiblity... and I can see her in the meeting-fight with Darkwind if
nothing else>. Villains... Anthony Hopkins as Tremane would be good<not
really a villain though>. Ancar... can't help but think that they guy who
plays Ares in Xena and Hercules would be good... not sure why but... Maybe
he'd be better as falconsbane though... I see Ancar as smaller<g> Kero would
be a challenge... Meryl Streep/Glen Close could do an older Kero I think...

I was most affected by Ulrich's death.  Prolly because it wasn't
really expected.  However, every time I read SW I'm devastated.  Tears
everywhere!!

My choices for movie roles:

Vanyel:  (bear with me, this is hard to explain & may not make sense
to non-Canadians)  I was watching Emily of New Moon last night, and
saw a bit actor that would be perfect(?) for Vanyel.  I'll try to
watch again & get a name, if he was just a one-off, I'll just have to
hold him in my heart!

Falconsbane:  Sean Connery

Karal:  whoever mentioned Elijah Wood, I agree with you

Kero:  Michelle Pfeiffer

Talia:  Wynona Ryder

Savil:  Blythe Danner (rent Hope Floats if you don't know the name)

It was Jadrec IIRC. An they had Midwinter's Celebration, which included a
gifting that seemed to me much like Christmas.

Heyla!  On the thread of worst actors for movie roles:

Tarma:  cindy Crawford.  Think of her in Fair Game.  That girl does not do
outdoors!

Firesong:  Donald Sutherland.  I don't know why this popped into my sad little
fried brain (I HATE finals!).  Maybe just that he goes against everything
Firesong is--flamboyant, beautiful...  although I haven't read the second or
third Storm books yet...

That's all I can think of for now.  Although I will say that I think someone
rather obscure should play Vanyel.  That's because typically, the more
"mainstream" actors are typecast and so I can't see any of them playing him.

journeymen.  Right?  Does anyone think it's not a coincidence that Hydona and
Treyvan were Masters?  Ya know, that they were the ones who were chosen as
envoys and that they were the gryphons who went out from the clan to search
for more land or whatever?  Is any of that even right????  Like I said, my
brain is FRIED!!!

I like this one even more than the best for the movies - and, although I was going
to put down Charro as worst for Kerowyn, I thought I'd put down actors who might
actually have a chance of getting the part, in some misguided casting director's
mind......

Talia - The girl who was in chasing Amy (hope that's not too obscure)
