I thought that power bleached over time? Well, if you take the stance that while the foal is in the womb, the energy that the mother uses bleaches its coat, then you could explain it that way :). I just assumed that since Companions are such intensely magical creatures anyway, everything they did would be flooded with magic unless they conciously(sp?) shielded the magic from coming through. Someone said: >You know I think would play a good Vanyel? Jason Carter. He played Marcus on Babylon 5. I think Jason Carter would be perfect for an older Vanyel. He has an attitude of regalness about him. Though we would probably have to get an unknown to play Van in his teens. Patricia Tallman would be good for an older Talia IMHO. Brent Spiner plays evil very well and would be good as Falconsbane. I used to think Brigitte Nielson for the part of Kerowyn but now I see her more as Cory Everson. Now worst actors for parts: Adam Sandler for Albereich, although he would be perfect for Leslac. Leonardo Dicaprio for Tylendel. Lisa Kudrow for Kethry. That's all I can think of from the top of my head. BTW, thanks to everyone that answered my demon question and thanks for keeping the religious discussion on a civil basis. Things got pretty nasty a few months ago on another religious "discussion". The councillors had to stop the discussion altogether. Windy The Gryphon books do not deal with the Companions at all. Companions didn't show up until Valdemar was founded. The Gryphon books were set many many many years earlier. It does give more information on Urtho and the Gryphons, and you get to see the original mage storm. The Owl books are set in Valdemar, in a small village, post-storms and the repercussions of the lack of nodes/ley lines and what happened. It also deals with the Tayledras a lot. It gets into their lifestyles as much as the Winds series did. Although there have been a few flames on how bad the books were because there was no major tragedy, especially in the second book, I really liked them. ***SPOILER*** (kinda) There is a tragedy in the first book, and it's pretty bad. Especially when you consider the various sides of it. Kinda one of those losses where the grief hits later. I don't want to say anything more. (sometimes also 'the golden bird') three princes try to stop a thief from getting at their father's trees, the youngest succeeds and gets a feather from the firebird. with the help of a fox (a wolf here) he manages to get the bird, as well as a princess and a golden maned horse. interestingly enough, there was also a story called 'princess vasilisa and the firebird,' where a huntsman manages to win the princess with the help of his faithful horse. these all have bits in mercedes lackey's 'the firebird.' however, she also mentions, in _chrome circle,_ that the katschei met his death thanks to a brave youth who had the help of a horse, a firebird, and a vixen. and iirc, she wrote this before she wrote _firebird._ so, where is this story of the firebird that misty managed to get the basic plot of her book from? okay, okay, i know that was a pretty lengthy lead-up to a simple question... sorry. have some rainbow-coloured gummy sheep to make up for it? bye! -sel ~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~ Selene Tan http://www.geocities.com/Area51/8121/index.html seltan-+AT+-qinet.net | selly-+AT+-geocities.com ICQ UIN: 5161924 ~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Dec 1998 06:32:39 -0500 (EST) From: AERDEN-+AT+-delphi.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Companions/Casting/Demons Message-ID: <01J5O1LKWLGY918OC5-+AT+-delphi.com> Spiner as Falconsbane...now _there's_ an interesting combination that I hadn't considered. Sorry I haven't written in a while, and changing my e-mail address is not working at the moment, but I am still changing my use-name. Anyways... as far as collaborations go, I rather enjoyed the Wing Commander/Freedom Flight book. I can't remember who it was written with, but I really enjoyed it. It was rather different from most of the other things Misty writes. I also enjoyed the one she did with Anne McCaffrey, the Ship who Searched. In fact, that's how I got started on Anne McCaffrey's books, IIRC. It was the same with Andre Norton--I found the books written by Misty and Norton, and expanded. :) On a wondering tangent... I'm kinda wondering how Urtho made the gryphons in the first place. I mean, I can see how the bondbirds and horses were developed by manipulating the breeding and genes of existing stock, both by breeding and magic, but I don't know how he would go about creating an entirely new race. Any thoughts? Well, I don't have anything to contribute to the movie threads or anything, so I guess for the moment I'll leave it at that.... Blessings to you all this holiday season!
