Message-ID: Heyla list-sibs. My brain is still in the frying pan, but this just popped into my head: Carlos Moya as Vanyel. He's a Spanish (I think) tennis player. he has the look that I consider to be Vanyel-esque. Okay...let me try to think of something, hopefully an ObMisty, to prevent flaming. Hmmmm.... Oh! Possible spoiler for Storms!!! * * * * * Okay--Solaris puts a spell on Tremane that makes him always have to tell the truth, right? Why couldn't he counter it? was it a magic unheard of to them, or do you think Vkandis held it? Also--do you think all Sons of the Sun had sun-related names? Wait, no, duh (Hansa, Altra didn't) So why did Solaris? Koinkydink? That's all for now...longer than I thought! ;-) Windy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Dec 1998 15:22:03 PST From: "Oceania Angels" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Vent-Christmas and grief Message-ID: <19981227232204.16953.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Heyla! Amy-I'm so sorry that you lost so many loved ones this Christmas. It's miserable I know. I lost my Grandmother five years ago around Christmas. No one had any warning. The blessing was that she died without pain. Val Kilmer as Firesong?! AAAAAHHHHHH ~runs screaming in terror~ Sorry. I still remember him as Mad Martagan from Willow. And Mad Martagan just doesn't make me think of Firesong. I got Owlflight for Christmas! And Born to Run! I'm reading Born to Run first. :) I got the tape of By the Sword too. Was that supposed to be Warrl singing that one song? The one about mindspeaking? It sure doesn't sound like 'him'..... Stars light your path, Sorana S. Message-ID: <19981228013354.7732.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Heyla. I trust you'll all forgive me if this is horrendously long and incredibly scattered. I've been gone since the eighteenth, and having major school troubles; hence, I've been very out of touch and sometimes have trouble putting two thoughts together. So, here we go, and my apologies for not attributing the quotes. <> Marcus! What a handsome fellow. And the voice! Thing is, what does he look like without facial hair? I can't picture him without, and I can't see Vanyel with. Someone else said that Jason Carter is a little too rugged for Vanyel, and I'm inclined to agree. I have a few other ideas for him though. :) <> Though I did for a brief time watch Kindred, I cannot put a face to the name of Jeff Kober. And hell if I know who Channon Roe is. Mainstream, I am. <> I've noticed that. Maybe Misty is a clean freak? :) Or maybe it was just one of those things she felt was applicable, since regular bathing wasn't nearly as important in the past as it has become in our century. On Cherif Fortin: <> Isn't it great? He's got that refined, beautiful look to him. And manages to look manly in lace. <> Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that Florian hadn't chosen anyone. I got the impression it was something of a special case, similar to Yfandes carrying Stefen in MPrice and Darkwind doubling with Elspeth on Gwena. <<>> <> Oh, just my attempt at vague humor. I know he's dead. Still, if that middle B. stands for Balthazar, I may never recover. On a completely OT note, who here has read Laurell K. Hamilton's book Nightseer? I got it for Christmas and really liked it, thought it ran a little too quickly and choppily in places. <> Hudson Lieck? I don't know, I never could picture her as Kero. Granted, I only saw one episode with her and that was a while back, but... <> I've never really cared for Stewart, really. <> As I can't bring a face to mind for Elijah Wood or Karal, I won't yea or nay him. <> Daren, y'mean? Isn't Timothy Dalton getting a tad old? Or am I getting him mixed up with someone else? He was Bond in License to Kill, right? <> He's always looked a bit nefarious to me. I can see him as Rafael the Rat King (LKH again, forgive me) but not as Darkwind. Ancar, maybe... <> Oh, I love Gary Oldman. He does bad so well. I object here on two counts, though. Firstly, Gary Oldman has declared that he's not going to play any more villains. Or so I read in an interview with him about Lost In Space. Secondly, while Jack Nicholson and Gary Oldman and Sean Connery are such spectacular actors, Mornelithe Falconsbane is supposed to be gorgeous and ooze sex and they--aren't, and don't (well, you can make a case for Connery, but I can't see him physically as Falconsbane for all that). < but the American accent might create a few problems as 'Lendel. Nice sort of Elvenish face though... J. Brandis looked a little like that for a while...>> Ah, Jonathan Brandis. He was my favorite blond for quite a while--don't jeer, I'm a seaQuest nut. Maxwell Caulfield is vying for that position now, le drool. Now there's a Tylendel. But I think he's a tad old by this time. <.>> I'm not sure about Thompson for Selenay--I've always pictured her as, though not less beautiful, a little warmer in looks. A little less elegant. Kind of like my mother. Kate Winslet would do a good Elspeth, I think, if she were a little less pretty. <.>> I love Anthony Hopkins. I think he could pull off Tremane well. He's never, ever over the top, always verging on soft-spoken. He could also do Ulrich nicely. <>> I could see Ares as Ancar. He's got the dark, sultry, vaguely sinister good looks going. <> I'm not really fond of either of those actresses, looks-wise. And, I'm not sure either of them could pull off Kero's blunt, no-bullshit Attitude quite right. <> In truth, I don't recall it ever being said that most gryphons don't have much by way of mage-power. D'you remember where it said that? <<>> <<*giggle* Oh come on now.. it can't be that bad: "I choose you. All right already? Hellloooo? Can we blink any slower here? I'm missing my ten o'clock with the other Companions.">> Oh, God, Wintershard, you about killed me with that one. <> Actually that's "The Body," not "The Mind," and from all counts Mr. Ventura is a perfectly intelligent and decent person. But hey. That's the only touching on the 'worst casting' thread I'm going to do. It's too easy to find people who'd stink for the roles. There are lots. <>> Gabriel Byrne? I like him lots. Tres cool. There are a number of parts he could play. <>> I can't really see Catherine Zeta-Jones as Keth--Kethry's blonde hair and green eyes are something of a big part of the character, and though Ms. Zeta-Jones is beautiful all right, she's too dark. I could see her as Robin, though. <> Roy Scheider? Captain Bridger? Eeee. I like him, and he can act, but I'm not sure there's a part in Velgarth for him. <> This is turning into seaQuest redux. I can *almost* see that. I think I like Stephanie Beacham better for a part more along the lines of Ylsa or what's-her-name at the Collegium--Gaytha? < but after reading the end of Jinx High, i wonder if she had planned to...i mean, it ended very unsolved....Fay, or the evil spirit inhabiting Fay, is still alive and kicking....(or so one would assume)....and my point??...ermm, i guess i don't have one...just making a senseless observation...>> I tend to agree with you; Jinx High begs for a sequel. It's obvious that 'Fay' went back to Rowena's body when Di blasted her--Rowena, when Fay was tormenting her, asked where 'Aunt Emily' had come from, making it clear that there was never a real Aunt Emily. At the end, the-Servant-as-Aunt-Emily is there with Rowena. Had Fay truly died, Aunt Emily would have been long gone. <> That was great. So was their reaction to Di's unmasking of the succubus--'we screwed _that?_' <> Tarma is definitely dead, as she is among the leshya'e Kalenedral--it's heavily implied that she is the one in Storms, and in Winds one of the veiled Kalenedral speaks in Elspeth's mind and calls her 'student of my student.' There's never any further appearances for Kethry or Warrl. Now, for my casting wish-list: Vanyel: Cherif Fortin, still. Gorgeous man. Kero: Claudia Christian. Susan Ivanova from Babylon 5. Such great sarcasm. And what the hell? Eldan: Jason Carter. He's more or less got the coloring, is very "easy on the eyes" and is capable of being so wonderfully sweet. It's be kind of a waste of the quirky streak he displayed as Marcus Cole, but... Talia: Winona Ryder. I have maintained this for some time. Alberich: Sean Connery. He's older, has an accent, and can do both Imposing and Sensitive nicely. Daren: Maybe Val Kilmer, maybe Patrick Swayze? Dunno here. He needs one of those clean-cut, square-jawed, classic American boys. Bruce Boxleitner? Selenay: There's someone at the tip of my tongue, whose name I can't quite bring to mind. Susan Sarandon could probably pull off the part. Nyara: Michelle Pfeiffer has the felinity pretty much down, and can ooze sex if necessary. Darkwind: What's-his-face who played the main role in Last of the Mohicans. Was that Daniel Day Lewis? I'm not sure. Elspeth: Again, there is someone on the tip of my tongue, whose name I can't quite grasp. Tarma: I can't bring to mind any good actresses with the proper severe, ethnic look, but I know there are some 'cause I remember having seen them. Tremane, or Ulrich: Anthony Hopkins. He could play either of those roles. Jeremy Irons could also play either role. Jadrek: I'm inclined to say Robert Redford. He's blond, he's older, he's handsome, and he can act. If he were a little younger he could play Daren. The Haighlei king--what was his name again?: Morgan Freeman, who is from my home state of Mississippi and who takes his horses to the vet school at which my mother works. Or he could play Geyr. A rather flippant suggestion here: Bruce Campbell, Autoclius (I know I mangled that) from Hercules, as Skif? Maybeso, maybeno. There's a part for him someplace, I'm sure. I want to say Chris Sarandon (Prince Humperdinck) for Faram. Moondance: Christopher Lambert, who learned his Old Man On The Mountain act from Sean Connery in Highlander and learned it well. The only truly good thing about Mortal Kombat, unless you're a big martial arts fan. There are half a dozen other good parts for him, too. I can almost see Withen Ashevron as Brian Dennehy. Leareth: Antonio Banderas? I'll be adding others as they come to me and as I read four and Twenty Blackbirds and Owlflight, both of which I got for Christmas along with Nightseer, one of the newest Dragonlance books, a book by Terry Pratchett, two anthologies of retold fairy tales, and a gorgeous copy of Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, bound in dark russet leather and embossed in gold and blue and green. There are also a number of actors who I know there are parts for, but who I can't quite place. Most of them are mainstream to the extreme, but they are good actors. (At least I think so.) Mel Gibson Kiefer Sutherland, a la the Three Musketeers. Richard Gere Cary Elwes, but only if he grows his hair out a little, Westley-style. Harrison Ford, who may be a little too much for any part in Velgarth, and tends to get typecast. Mark Hamill. Okay, he doesn't have much of a career any more, but he's good. Tom Burlinson--Jim Craig, for anyone who watched and remembers Man From Snowy River or Return To Snowy River. And what sappy movies they are. Oh! now I remember who I was thinking of for Selenay. Robin Wright, of Princess Bride fame. She also played Jenny in Forrest Gump, but wasn't very Selenay-esque in that. She could also maybe play Kethry or Solaris. I want desperately to say Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya) but damn if I can think of a part for him. Julia Ormond, perhaps. Michael Douglass If there were any human comic relief characters I would say Oliver Platt, but I can't think of any. I like Pierce Brosnan but can't think of any parts for him that would really fit. Maybe Amberdrake? Eh. I also like the fellow who played Captain Love in The Mask of Zorro. Not sure if there's a part for him, though. I think that's about enough for now. Zha'hai'allav'a, Raven Darkblade and Mor the raven, her familiar, Holy Hand of the Goddess of Elves, Member of the Mistic Circle, Knight and Founding Member of the Order of Unsung Heroes, Advocator of Eldan, Champion of Kethra and Hyllarr, and Devotee of Maclyn. abbykat-+AT+-hotmail.com http://www.angelfire.com/ky/Ashke/ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1826 **********************************
